Abstract

Adolescent cadres are adolescents who are selected or voluntarily volunteer and are trained to participate in implementing adolescent health services for themselves, their peers, their families and the community. The aim of this research is to determine the role of youth cadres as motivators, facilitators, communicators and promoters in youth posyandu activities. This research method is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The research sample in this study consisted of 3 youth cadres, 3 teenagers, and 1 youth posyandu supervisor. The sampling technique in this research was nonprobability with a purposive sampling technique. This research was conducted at the Batu Selicin Lubuk Baja youth posyandu, Batam City. Data was collected by in-depth interviews. The results of this research showed that there was no role for teenage cadres as communicators in the activities of the Batu Selicin youth posyandu, Lubuk Baja, Batam City. The conclusion from this research is that teenage cadres have not optimized their role as communicators. This is because youth cadres are not provided with special training and youth cadres are also not given in-depth knowledge. This research can also be a reference for further research regarding the importance of youth cadre training.

Abstract

Postpartum blues syndrome is a mild emotional disorder experienced by mothers after giving birth. This disorder can affect the emotional well-being of the mother and her relationship with the baby. Postpartum exercise therapy and a healthy diet are believed to reduce the symptoms of postpartum blues syndrome. This study aims to analyze the effects of postpartum exercise and a healthy diet on the recovery of baby blues syndrome in postpartum mothers. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pre- and post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 37 postpartum mothers who were divided into an intervention group (postpartum exercise and a healthy diet) and a control group. Data were collected using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) questionnaire to measure maternal depression symptoms before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using t-tests and multivariate tests. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in depression symptoms in the group that received the intervention compared to the control group (P<0.001). The depression symptoms score decreased by an average of 3.74 in the intervention group that followed postpartum exercise, while a healthy diet contributed to a decrease in depression symptoms with an average reduction of 2.32. Conclusion: Postpartum exercise and a healthy diet can significantly reduce the symptoms of postpartum blues syndrome. Therefore, postpartum exercise and a healthydiet are recommended as routine therapy for postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social interaction, communication, and behavior. Early detection of ASD is important for appropriate intervention. This study aims to detect the risk of autism in children aged 16-30 months in Langkat Regency using the M-CHAT-R (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers-Revised) instrument. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study conducted on 50 children aged 16-30 months who were screened using M-CHAT-R. The analysis was performed using chi-square and Fisher's tests to examine the relationship between gender, premature birth, low birth weight (LBW), family history of autism, and seizure history (epilepsy) with ASD risk. Results: The results showed that male gender was a significant risk factor for ASD (P<0.001). Other factors such as family history of autism, LBW, and seizure history did not show a significant association with ASD (P>0.05). A total of 10% of the children had LBW, and 6% were born prematurely. Conclusion: Male gender is a significant risk factor for ASD, with boys being 1.4 times more at risk compared to girls. Furthermore, no significant correlation was found between family history of autism, LBW, premature birth, or seizure history with ASD. Further research is needed to explore the genetic and environmental factors contributing to ASD in Indonesia.

Abstract

Myths are traditions that are widely spread throughout society. One myth that often arises and spreads quickly is related to health issues. West Tegal is a region in Indonesia located on the north coast of Java, with easy access to sources of protein or seafood. However, there is a myth that makes pregnant women reluctant to consume seafood because it is considered dangerous for the fetus. This study aims to examine myths related to pregnancy from the cultural perspective of the West Tegal community, Tegal City, using a qualitative approach with pregnant women as respondents. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling and accidental sampling techniques, namely pregnant women who underwent antenatal care (ANC) at the West Tegal Community Health Center and were willing to be informants. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews to explore the experiences, views, and beliefs of four pregnant women regarding food myths during pregnancy. The results showed that pregnant women in the working area of the Tegal Barat Community Health Center, Tegal City, still practiced pregnancy care that was not in accordance with health theory. During pregnancy, they believed in myths about food restrictions, such as not eating fish because it causes itching/allergies in the fetus, squid because it causes the fetus's skin to turn black, and shrimp because it causes the fetus's skin to become scaly.

Abstract

The quality of baby's sleep affects the growth and development of the baby. Babies with good sleep quality have optimal growth and development. According to research, there are around 44% of babies who experience sleep disorders. One of the non-pharmacological therapies to overcome baby's sleep problems is baby massage. This study aims to determine the effect of baby massage on the quality of sleep of babies aged 3-6 months in Sidoasri Village. This study is included in quantitative research using the Pre Experimental research model with a one group pretest posttest research design. The sample in this study was 16 respondents. The data collection technique used the Brief Infant Sleep Questionnaire (BISQ) checklist sheet. The data analysis used was the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a p value (0.002) < alpha (0.05), meaning that there is an effect of baby massage on improving the quality of sleep of babies aged 3-6 months in Sidoasri Village. Baby massage is needed by babies to provide a sense of comfort and relaxation to the baby's body so that the baby can sleep better and have good sleep quality.

Abstract

Anemia is a disorder characterized by a reduction in hemoglobin levels in the bloodstream or red blood cells, leading to an impaired capacity of red blood cells to transport oxygen to tissues. Anemia in female adolescents is attributed to malnutrition, particularly deficiencies in iron and folic acid, with insufficient knowledge being a contributing factor. The prevalence of anemia among female adolescents in Yogyakarta City Regency is 29.51% (2,844 people). One method that can improve adolescent girls' understanding of anemia is through media-based teaching, particularly utilizing the snakes and ladders game as a teaching instrument. This study aims to determine the effect of the snakes and ladders approach on the knowledge level of female adolescents at SMA (Senior High School) Muhammadiyah 5 Yogyakarta. This research employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a pre-post-test with a control group. The sampling method employed total sampling, obtaining 86 female students as participants. The Mann-Whitney test was employed for data analysis. The study's results suggested that the snakes and ladders approach significantly influenced the knowledge level of female adolescents on anemia at SMA Muhammadiyah 5 Yogyakarta, as evidenced by the active participation of respondents in the learning process, with a p value = 0.000 <0.05. The snakes and ladders technique is an excellent, engaging, and interactive educational tool that enhances female adolescents' understanding of anemia. Female adolescents are encouraged to proactively seek information regarding anemia, particularly its causes, symptoms, and preventive measures, to prevent future anemia-related problems.

Abstract

Cases of sexual violence against young children in Indonesia show an upward trend every year. Children's lack of knowledge about the forms and ways to prevent sexual violence is one of the main factors that make them vulnerable to becoming victims. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of educational media in the form of an animated video entitled “My Body is Precious” and a picture book in increasing knowledge about the prevention of sexual violence among young children. The study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group. The research was conducted at TK ABA Dukuh I and TK ABA Mlangi, with a sample size of 70 children aged 5–6 years divided into two groups (video and picture book). The instrument used was a picture questionnaire filled out through direct interviews by the researcher. Data analysis used the Paired T-test and Independent T-test. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores in both groups, but a higher increase was found in the group given animated video media, with an average posttest score of 72.83 compared to 62.97 in the picture book group. Statistical tests indicated a significant difference (p=0.000). The conclusion of this study is that animated video media is more effective than picture storybooks in improving knowledge about the prevention of sexual violence in young children, making it an attractive, easy-to-understand, and relevant educational option for children.
