Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has created new opportunities to enhance learning processes, yet Islamic Religious Education is often perceived as less engaging and less effective in improving students’ understanding. This study aims to develop an interactive learning media based on artificial intelligence to improve students’ comprehension in Islamic Religious Education at the junior secondary level. The study employed a research and development approach using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The developed media was validated by experts and tested through small and large group trials. The results indicate that the media achieved a very high level of feasibility, with expert validation scores of 92.5 percent for content and 88.7 percent for media design. Practicality tests showed that both teachers and students perceived the media as highly usable. Effectiveness testing revealed an increase in student understanding, with a normalized gain score of 0.58, categorized as moderate. These findings imply that artificial intelligence based interactive media can support more adaptive, engaging, and meaningful learning in Islamic education.

Abstract

This study is driven by the increasing crisis of digital disinformation and cyberbullying, which reflects a systemic decline in communication ethics within online ecosystems. It aims to reconceptualize Hadith-based communication ethics as a pedagogical framework in Islamic education to address these challenges. The study employs a qualitative library research method through thematic analysis of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The findings identify three main prophetic communication principles: justice (al-‘adl), contextual appropriateness (al-maqām), and tolerance (al-hanifiyyah as-samhah). The main contribution of this study is the formulation of “Prophetic Digital Ethics,” an integrative framework that operationalizes classical Hadith values into digital communication governance. This framework is implemented through pedagogical strategies such as digital case analysis, cyber-conflict simulation, and counter-narrative training to strengthen verification literacy and ethical discourse. The study concludes that prophetic communication ethics provide a strong normative and pedagogical foundation for mitigating misinformation, online hate, and cyberbullying, while fostering ethical, critical, responsible, and socio-religiously moderate digital citizenship.

Abstract

Indonesia has a high level of diversity that can serve as both a strength and a source of conflict if it is not managed through the values of religious moderation. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), as Islamic educational institutions, play a strategic role in instilling these values, although the process of internalization still faces conceptual, pedagogical, and social challenges. This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing religious moderation in Islamic boarding schools in Padangsidimpuan City, including its forms of internalization, supporting and inhibiting factors, and its implications for students’ attitudes. The research employs a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design at Al-Ansor Manunggang Julu Islamic Boarding School and Darul Istiqomah Huta Padang Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using an inductive-interactive technique. The findings show that internalization occurs through formal learning, habituation within the pesantren environment, and the exemplary role of the kiai. Supporting factors include pesantren culture, scholarly traditions, and external support, while the main obstacles are limited educator competence and the influence of digital media. This process shapes students’ attitudes to be more open, tolerant, and dialogical, with important implications for strengthening exemplary leadership and digital literacy.

Abstract

Islamic education faces challenges in contextualizing Islamic values amid social change and the increasingly complex currents of globalization. Islamic education is often viewed as overly theoretical and insufficiently equipped to address moral and social issues in society. This study aims to analyze the internalization of Islamic educational values and its implications for social transformation in Kampung Al-Qur’an, Mandailing Natal, Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method within an interpretive paradigm. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving religious leaders, community members, parents, and youth. The findings reveal that the internalization of values occurs through religious conditioning, the strengthening of social control, the exemplary role of community leaders, and the collective involvement of families and the community. These practices successfully fostered spiritual discipline, social solidarity, and moral resilience within the community despite being situated in an environment vulnerable to negative influences. This study affirms that community-based Islamic education holds great potential as a model for sustainable and contextual social transformation.

Abstract

Religious moderation in Indonesia has been institutionally strengthened through national policy frameworks; however, persistent intolerance among students indicates a deeper epistemological problem within religious reasoning. Existing studies generally approach moderation as a normative or socio-political agenda while neglecting the structures of reasoning that shape exclusive or moderate religious orientations. This article examines religious moderation within the dialectic of tradition and modernity through Mohammed Abed al-Jabiri’s critique of Arab reason and its implications for Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative-conceptual design using a philosophical-epistemological approach. Primary sources include al-Jabiri’s Naqd al-‘Aql al-‘Arabi and related works on bayānī, ‘irfānī, and burhānī epistemologies, supported by relevant literature on religious moderation and Islamic education. The findings reveal that sustainable religious moderation requires the reconstruction of religious reasoning through burhānī rationality, which emphasizes critical, contextual, and dialogical thinking. Consequently, Islamic education must transform its curriculum and pedagogy to cultivate critical-moderate reasoning grounded in ethical and intellectual responsibility.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a critical issue in pluralistic societies and relates not only to theological understanding but also to social practices in community life. This study aims to analyze the practice of religious moderation from the perspective of Islamic Religious Education within the Hidayatullah Islamic organization. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving organizational leaders, educators, cadres, social volunteers, and the community. The results indicate that religious moderation is realized through a cadre development system, education, social activities, economic empowerment, and dialogical da’wah. The cadre development system functions as character education that fosters discipline, social responsibility, and community commitment. Educational institutions serve as spaces for fostering tolerance and inclusive interaction within a pluralistic society. Additionally, social and economic programs strengthen social solidarity and enhance public trust in the organization. This study confirms that Islamic organizations play a crucial role in strengthening social cohesion and the practice of religious moderation within society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meaning of multiple competencies, the implementation of instruction, and the implications of science-based Islamic Religious Education at SMKN 1 Sanggar. The study employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation, which were analyzed using data triangulation. The results of the study indicate that multiple competencies are understood as the holistic development of students’ abilities, encompassing spiritual, intellectual, and social aspects, as well as skills and critical thinking abilities. Instructional implementation is conducted contextually by integrating Islamic Religious Education content with natural phenomena, scientific advancements, daily life, and the professional world through methods such as discussion, case studies, and real-world examples. This approach enhances students’ engagement in the learning process. Furthermore, science-based Islamic Religious Education has positive implications for strengthening students’ multiple competencies, particularly in critical thinking, religious attitudes, responsibility, and the ability to connect Islamic values with real-life situations, thereby playing a relevant role in shaping students’ character and preparing them to face the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

Moral decline among university students has become a major challenge for Islamic higher education institutions in producing graduates with both academic competence and strong moral integrity. This study aims to analyze the implementation, impacts, and supporting and inhibiting factors of character education strengthening at STAI Al Hikmah Tebing Tinggi and STIT Batubara. Employing a qualitative multisite design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using reduction, display, conclusion drawing, and verification techniques, while validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that character education is implemented through the integration of academic learning, religious habituation, student activities, and community service. These efforts contribute to improved discipline, academic responsibility, communication ethics, leadership, and social awareness among students. Institutional commitment, lecturers’ role modeling, student organizations, and supportive social environments serve as key enabling factors, whereas diverse student backgrounds, digital influences, time constraints, and limited institutional resources remain significant challenges.

Abstract

Learning outcomes in the Islamic Cultural History course at MIN 6 Padang indicate suboptimal achievement, which is influenced, among other factors, by students’ low interest in the subject. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model in enhancing students’ interest and learning outcomes. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach by comparing learning outcomes before and after the implementation of the Jigsaw model. Data were analyzed using t-tests and ANOVA to test the significance of differences in learning outcomes. The results showed that the post-test significance value was 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference following the implementation of the Jigsaw model. The ANOVA test also yielded a significance value of 0.000, reinforcing these findings. Furthermore, the calculated t-value of 2.580 was greater than the critical t-value of 2.179, indicating that the Jigsaw model had a significant effect on improving learning outcomes. These findings confirm that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model is effective in enhancing students’ interest and learning outcomes in the subject of Islamic Cultural History at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.
