Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language development of 18-month-old children with a focus on the Mean Length of Utterance (MLU) based on the frequency of social interactions and responses to gadgets. This study adopts a psycholinguistic approach, particularly Emergentist Approach (2022), to explain how competing language cues from social interaction and gadgets shape children's utterance development. Data were obtained from transcripts of children's utterances in the context of daily interactions with parents and when dealing with gadgets using a mixed-methods descriptive approach. The analysis was carried out by grouping word types using Kridalaksana's (2005) morphology theory and calculating the length of the number of morphemes per utterance, then averaging them to obtain the MLU value using Brown's (1973) theory. The research results show that six types of words were used during social interactions: nouns, verbs, numerals, adjectives, adverbs, interjection and variations of foreign languages were also found. Meanwhile, the responses to the gadgets only used two types of words: nouns and interjections. Furthermore, the development results the total MLU of children is at 1.64, which is included in the normal development stage according to the age range of 12–26 months according to Brown’s Stages of Language Development. If reviewed based on context, MLU in social interactions reaches 1.8, whereas MLU response to device is only 1.0. This shows that children are more capable of producing long, varied, and complex utterances when interacting with their parents or their environment, while responses to gadgets tend to be limited to single-word utterances or non-lexical vocalizations.

Abstract

This study explores the use of English in digital tour guiding by analyzing five YouTube videos that represent virtual tourism practices. The research aims to identify the linguistic, narrative, and technological strategies employed by guides in delivering online tour experiences. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and content analysis, the study examines how guides adapt their communication to suit international audiences in digitally mediated environments. The findings reveal that guides rely on simplified language, controlled pacing, and descriptive explanations to enhance comprehensibility. Audiovisual techniques such as camera movement, framing, and zooming play a crucial role in replacing physical gestures and supporting meaning-making. The study demonstrates that effective digital tour guiding requires the integration of English-mediated communication, cultural interpretation, and technological competence. These findings highlight the evolving nature of tour guiding in the digital era and emphasize the importance of multimodal communication in shaping virtual tourism experiences.

Abstract

Balinese customary regulations (awig-awig) are often assumed to be ecological because they rest on Tri Hita Karana, especially the element of palemahan. This assumption flattens every kind of environmental absence into a single form, yet absence takes more than one form. Some natural entities are named but reduced; others are never raised at all. Reading the awig-awig of Desa Adat Denpasar, this study separates the two, known in ecolinguistics as erasure and silence. The analysis is qualitative, drawing on Stibbe's erasure and salience and Huckin's typology of silence, and weighs its findings through an ecosophy that joins Tri Hita Karana with the principle of sustainability. Land, plants, animals, and water appear mainly as property, boundaries, or things to be discarded, and water in particular figures only as waste and as danger. Meanwhile, the water pollution and urban waste that trouble Denpasar go unregulated. Palemahan ends up meaning the ordering of owned space more than the care of an environment. The presence of Tri Hita Karana in a text does not guarantee a genuinely ecological outlook.

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic nation with rich and diverse cultural heritage, including traditional performing arts imbued with local wisdom values. However, in the era of smart society 5.0, the preservation of traditional culture faces serious challenges due to the dominance of digital technology and foreign cultural influences. This study aims to examine the development, procedures, inheritance patterns, and preservation challenges of debus traditional art at Padepokan Putra Kiara, Karangjaya District, Tasikmalaya Regency, in the smart society 5.0 era. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data sources comprising observation results, in-depth interviews with the padepokan's elders and players, literature review, and field documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that Padepokan Putra Kiara manages two variants of debus, namely Verification Debus and Invulnerability Debus, which previously required every prospective player to master three fundamental elements: breath control, sense refinement, and heart cultivation. The inheritance pattern proceeds informally through enculturation and socialization processes, from elders to community leaders, and subsequently to the next generation through experiential learning. Major challenges include public misconceptions regarding the mystical elements of debus, low interest among youth, and the economic limitations of practitioners. Recommended preservation strategies encompass performance digitalization, social media utilization, and collaboration with the creative industry to maintain debus's relevance in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the students’ speaking skills of first-semester students at Uniska Camp. The method used was classroom action research with 150 participants. The procedures used were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. It was done into two cycles in each cycle consisted of three meetings. The researcher used collaborative action research with some of the English teachers. The data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and tests. The quantitative data were obtained from tests, and the qualitative data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. Descriptive statistics analyzed the quantitative data, and qualitative data were analyzed by data display, verifying, and drawing a conclusion. This study's findings indicate that communicative games can improve students' speaking skills. Therefore, the criteria of success had been determined. It is crucial to note that communicative games have contributed a positive impact on teaching learning process. This also implies the communicative games expected to enhance students’ enthusiasm and motivation. Clearly, It gives positive improvement on students’ active participation, confidence and their fluency in speaking skill. Abstract

This study aims to analyze ecofeminist discourse in representing environmental justice and gender equality in clean water management in impoverished rural areas of Bali Province, with a particular focus on the role of women in sustaining water resources. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach based on contemporary ecofeminist theory. The research was conducted in Tinjalas Hamlet, Seraya Village, Bali, involving a sample of 20 households selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through structured and focused group interviews as well as non-participant observation and were analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The findings reveal that women play a dominant role in accessing, utilizing, and managing clean water efficiently, including collecting water from springs and rivers and harvesting rainwater as an adaptive strategy to cope with limited water availability. Men's participation in these activities is relatively low, although gender relations within the family do not exhibit significant conflict or dichotomy. Women also demonstrate strong ecological awareness by using water wisely, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and treating water to make it safe for consumption in order to prevent waterborne diseases. These findings confirm that women make a strategic contribution to promoting environmental justice and ensuring the sustainability of clean water management in impoverished rural communities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mechanisms through which Hindu and Buddhist cultures converged at the Goa Giri Putri Temple, identify the manifestations of this fusion, and uncover the values?inherent within it. This study applies the theory of cultural acculturation as an analytical tool to understand the dynamics of the meeting of these two religious traditions, while the theory of multiculturalism is used to explore the dimensions of meaning emerging from this fusion. The approach used was qualitative, with data collected through in-depth interviews and field observations, supported by a review of relevant literature. The analysis was descriptive and analytical. The results revealed two main factors driving this acculturation: the openness of the local community to the influx of Chinese traditions into the Hindu cultural environment, and the strong beliefs and convictions held by the local community. This acculturation can be observed through the presence of Buddhist statues placed side by side with shrines for Hindu deities within the Goa Giri Putri area. The ritual instruments used also do not differentiate between the two faith traditions. At the level of meaning, the Hindu-Buddhist acculturation the Temple conveys a message of multiculturalism and socio-religious values to the people of Karangsari, Suana Village, Nusa Penida, while fostering an attitude of sympathy, appreciation, and tolerance amidst religious and cultural diversity.
