Abstract

This community service initiative focuses on product diversification strategies to enhance sales, competitiveness, and sustainability of dairy farming at Rembangan Dairy Farm in Jember. The primary issues addressed include limited variety in processed milk products and suboptimal marketing strategies, which affect product quality consistency and market expansion. The objectives of this initiative are to analyze the effectiveness of product diversification strategies, identify internal and external factors influencing these strategies, and formulate development recommendations by designing a more adaptive business model using the Business Model Canvas (BMC). The methods employed include direct observation, interviews with stakeholders, and hands-on participation in operational activities such as livestock care, milk processing, and interviews during a 45-day internship at the UPT Pembibitan Ternak dan Hijauan Pakan Ternak Rembangan. The results demonstrate that product diversification, including flavored milk, milk pudding, and cheesecuit, successfully increased consumer appeal and product value. The BMC analysis mapped nine key business elements and provided a foundation for more structured strategic recommendations. This program offers strategic recommendations for the sustainable development of the dairy agroindustry.

Abstract

This community service program was carried out in Majapura Village with three main activities: the utilization of household yards, the development of a simple drip irrigation system, and the application of biofloc technology integrated with hydroponics for catfish farming. The program aimed to strengthen household food security, improve water use efficiency, and optimize limited land resources through appropriate technology. The results showed that 30 household yards were successfully transformed into productive spaces, 15 drip irrigation units were installed to support efficient watering, and 16 biofloc ponds were developed, functioning both for catfish cultivation and as a nutrient source for hydroponic plants. The success of this program was supported by active participation from village officials, PKK women’s groups, and local youth. Challenges encountered included limited production facilities, relatively high installation costs, and the community’s lack of technical knowledge. Therefore, continuous mentoring is needed to ensure program sustainability. Overall, this program contributed positively to improving household food independence, promoting efficient water management, and introducing environmentally friendly practices for sustainable community development.

Abstract

The training on utilizing home gardens as a source of family food based on organic fertilizer was conducted in August 2025 in Tawangsari Village, Trowulan District, Mojokerto Regency. The program aimed to improve the skills of PKK women’s group members in optimizing home gardens to support household food security, while also introducing the practice of producing organic fertilizer from household waste. A participatory approach was applied through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and group discussions. The results showed that more than 80% of participants were able to practice organic fertilizer production and develop plans for utilizing their home gardens. Feedback obtained from questionnaires indicated that participants’ understanding of productive home gardens, organic fertilizer techniques, vegetable cultivation, nutritional benefits, and environmental impacts was generally in the good category (≥74%). These findings highlight that the training effectively enhanced participants’ knowledge, skills, and environmental awareness. Furthermore, the program strengthened women’s roles in supporting household food security and promoted the application of sustainable agriculture at the household level. Program sustainability is strongly recommended through continuous assistance from agricultural extension workers and village governments to ensure long-term benefits.

Abstract

Agricultural waste management remains a challenge for rural communities, including watermelon rind waste that is often discarded or burned, leading to environmental pollution. This program aimed to transform watermelon rind into a new noodle product as an effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices and create economic opportunities for local residents. The activity sought to empower housewives in Sumobito Village by improving their knowledge and skills in processing agricultural waste into nutritious and marketable food. A participatory approach was applied through discussions, direct observations, and training that actively involved the community at every stage, from planning to evaluation. The method emphasized knowledge transfer and hands-on practice in making noodles from watermelon rind, including ingredient preparation, dough processing, noodle shaping, and product packaging. The results showed an increase in residents’ ability to utilize waste and the successful production of noodles with distinctive characteristics in terms of color, texture, and taste compared to regular noodles. This innovation can reduce the volume of agricultural waste while providing an alternative functional food with economic value. Moreover, the activity raised environmental awareness and opened opportunities for home-based small businesses. Overall, the program indicates that agricultural waste can be transformed into valuable food products, supporting environmental sustainability and improving community welfare. Abstract

Madiopuro Village, located in Sumobito District, Jombang Regency, is an area where most residents work in the agricultural sector. However, the utilization of home yards remains limited and is often left unused or only partially utilized, causing households to rely heavily on markets to meet their daily food needs. This condition increases household vulnerability to food price fluctuations and supply limitations. This community service program aims to improve household food self-sufficiency through the utilization of limited land by implementing an aquaponic system integrated with the cultivation of family medicinal plants (TOGA), fast-growing vegetables, and fruit crops. The implementation method used a direct approach through hands-on field practices by utilizing residents’ home yards as demonstration sites. Activities included the construction of a simple aquaponic system, cultivation of medicinal plants, vegetables, and fruits, as well as assistance in plant and fish maintenance. The results showed an increase in community knowledge and awareness regarding the productive use of home yards as an alternative food source. The aquaponic system successfully produced catfish as a source of animal protein and fresh vegetables in a sustainable manner. This program has a positive impact on enhancing household food self-sufficiency, reducing household expenditures, and promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices. With continuous assistance, this program has the potential to be developed as a sustainable household-scale agricultural model to improve community welfare.
