Abstract

The use of animals as research objects in the world of science, such as biology and health, is common practice. However, the problem that often arises is the lack of knowledge of researchers regarding ethics or the correct procedure for using animals as research samples. This article precisely discusses how to use animals in research without violating the ethics that have been regulated by Islam and the provisions of science. This article was written using a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. Data was taken from the framework of Islamic and scientific theoretical concepts, scientific articles related to the issue of animal use, organizational provisions, and international law regarding animal protection as research samples. All data collected is carried out by analysis interactive model Milles & Hubberman assisted by NVIVO 12.0 Software. This finding resulted in seven ethical uses of animals in research; i) reciting tauhid sentence, ii) not using sick animals, iii) using sharp surgical tools, iv) hiding from the eyes of animals, v) minimizing the quantity of animal use, vi) using the euthanasia method, vii) handling post-surgical management. These seven ethics can be used as a reference for researchers in the use of animals in a study, to guarantee and ensure that animals are treated with proper and good ethics.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze suitable learning approaches for gifted and talented students at school. A qualitative method with a "single-case embedded design (multiple units of analysis)" was used for this study. Data were collected from 10 informants, including 3 management team members, 3 experienced teachers, and 4 students enrolled in the exemplary education program. Data analysis was conducted thematically using the interactive model by Miles & Huberman, assisted by Nvivo 12 software. The results indicate six learning strategies i) depth and critical learning, ii) innovation learning, iii) question critical issue, iv) competition learning, v) exploration learning, and vi) experience learning. The findings suggest that learning for gifted and talented students should provide opportunities and freedom for exploration to maximize their potential independently, supported by creative and innovative teacher guidance. Therefore, it is crucial to develop specific learning approaches that consider the characteristics of gifted and talented students. Additionally, teachers must continually enhance their skills to support learning that meets the needs of these students. School, parents, and the community must collaborate to create a learning environment that maximizes the potential of gifted and talented students.

Abstract

The international dormitory environment in the Middle East not only serves as a place of residence, but also as a complex socio-cultural and religious space for foreign students. As a residential area, dormitories offer various activities to foster social, emotional, and spiritual intelligence among students. This study aims to explore how various activities in dormitories can be a medium for the practice of religious moderation education. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data sources were obtained through in-depth individual and group interviews with twenty-five foreign students from five countries, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, and Bangladesh. All informants were foreign students living in university international dormitories. To strengthen the interview data, the researchers also conducted direct observations of the activities carried out, and even participated for one year in various activities of foreign students at the research site. All data were analyzed thematically using the qualitative software NVivo 12. The research findings reveal that religious moderation values such as tolerance, empathy, and respect for differences are not taught through formal programs but grow organically and are constructed through interactions in seven dormitory activities, namely i) cultural festivals, ii) clubs or communities, iii) volunteer activities, iv) mentorship programs, v) worship or religious rituals, vi) spiritually-based community service activities, vii) spiritual discussion groups. This finding provides a perspective for universities to function dormitories not only as a place to live, but as an inclusive environment that naturally fosters religious moderation.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how Quran teachers and parents discipline students to perform the dawn prayer. The study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected from ten informants through in-depth interviews. The informants consisted of Quran teachers, parents, and students. Data collection techniques included interviews and observation. All interview results were then analyzed thematically using NVivo 12 qualitative analysis software. Overall, the findings show that there are seven efforts made by Quran teachers and parents to encourage students to perform the dawn prayer. These seven efforts are divided into four actions by Qur’an teachers to instill discipline in students to participate in religious activities, namely: (i) imposing sanctions, (ii) giving rewards, (iii) conducting discussions between teachers and parents, and (iv) providing advice. Meanwhile, three efforts were made by parents to instill discipline in students to participate in religious activities, namely: (v) teaching children about the importance of the dawn prayer and how to perform it at home, (vi) providing motivation and rewards, and (vii) explaining the benefits of the dawn prayer to children. The results of this study can serve as preliminary data for future researchers to examine other issues related to this topic or similar contexts.

Abstract

The increasing popularity of social media has raised concerns about its potential impact on cognitive tasks, including Quran memorization (hifz). While previous studies have explored the effects of digital distractions on learning and memory retention, limited research has specifically examined the relationship between social media usage and Quran memorization. This study addresses this gap by investigating how daily social media consumption influences memorization progress and perceived effectiveness. A survey was conducted among Quran memorizers to assess their social media usage patterns and their correlation with memorization levels. A Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to determine whether significant differences exist in memorization levels across varying social media usage groups. The statistical results indicated no significant association between time spent on social media and memorization levels. However, qualitative responses suggested that excessive social media use negatively affects focus, discipline, and consistency in memorization. These findings highlight the complications of social media’s impact on Quran memorization. While quantitative results did not establish a direct relationship, qualitative insights emphasize the importance of a balanced social media usage for Quran memorization. Future research should build on these findings with larger samples and refined methodologies to bridge the gap between statistical trends and lived experiences.

Abstract

The ability to recognize Hijaiyah letters is an important initial stage in Quranic learning for children with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of sandpaper letters as an alternative method of Quranic learning in improving the ability to recognize Hijaiyah letters in children with mild intellectual disabilities. This study used a quantitative method with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A-B-A design. Data sources were obtained through observation, interviews, and tests of a subject with mild intellectual disabilities at a school in Indonesia. All data were analyzed using (state the analysis tool) with visual graphic analysis techniques. The results of the analysis of 13 meetings showed that the data obtained in each condition, namely at baseline (A1), was carried out in 3 meetings with scores of 35%, 35%, and 35%. During the observation of the intervention condition (B), 7 meetings were held with percentages of 50%, 60%, 75%, 80%, 95%, 95%, and 95%. Finally, observations conducted during the baseline condition (A2) were carried out in 3 sessions with percentages of 90%, 90%, and 90%. Thus, sandpaper letters are effective as an alternative for multisensory-based Quran learning for children with mild intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Teachers of Islamic Study bear a great responsibility to help students have a balanced personality; physics, emotions, and intelligence consistent with the philosophy of Islamic Study and the goal of national Education. The courses of Islamic Study, aqidah, observance, akhlak, fiqih, alquran and history require various strategies, methods, and teaching media. It is considered inappropriate if teachers of Islamic Study spend most of the hours explaining all materials about shalat, hajj, and the history of Islam using ‘chalk and talk’ strategy. Therefore, applying ICT in the classroom such as using computers and internet connection in a teaching and learning process is likely to be an alternative. Some other previous research showed that many Islamic Study teachers were seldom applying ICT during the teaching and learning process. It might be due to the lack of facilities and training, and teachers’ low esteem. This article explains how integrated ICT; computers and internet connections may support the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The explanation is strengthened by some theories, experts’ reviews and previous research findings related to the Islamic Study. The findings of the article are expected to provide references that may be used to integrate ICT in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of low learning outcomes among students in Islamic Religious Education, which ideally should demonstrate higher achievement since it is closely related to religious values and attitudes. This condition prompted the researcher to examine the influence of self-concept and family environment on students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education at the senior high school level. The study employed a quantitative approach with an associative method. The research population consisted of 497 students, from which 83 were selected as samples using a proportional stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires, and the analysis involved assumption testing and hypothesis testing using simple and multiple regression analyses. The results revealed that; i) self-concept had a positive and significant effect on students’ learning outcomes, with a regression coefficient of 0.203 and a contribution of 17.2%; ii) the family environment had a positive and significant effect, with a regression coefficient of 0.094 and a contribution of 4.4%; and iii) self-concept and family environment jointly had a positive and significant effect, with a coefficient of determination of 17.3%. These findings indicate that the more positive the self-concept and the stronger the family support, the higher the students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education. This study highlights the importance of synergy between internal psychological development and external family support in enhancing learning achievement and shaping students’ religious character.
