Abstract

This research will discuss one of the Arabic literary works that explicitly addresses the documentation of the history of the Indonesian struggle for independence in 1945 — `Audat al-Firdaus, a drama work by Ali Ahmad Bakatsir. This work tells the story of the dynamics that occurred among the leaders of the Nation—Soekarno, Mohammad Hatta, and Sutan Syahrir—in formulating the ideal ideology to legitimize the proclamation event at Ikada Field, which presents a narrative quite different from the historical documentation known to the Indonesian people. In fact, some of the attachments included in this writing are the author's interpretations in appreciating Indonesia's independence. One of the most striking aspects is that the lyrics of Indonesia's national anthem are written in Arabic language. By using two theoretical approaches: Post-Colonial Literature from Homi Bhabha and Hegemony from Antonio Gramsci, the researcher found an interesting discovery that Bakatsir deliberately created Audatul Firdaus to introduce the socialist ideology of Pancasila as a form of pan-Islamic revolution in the Middle East. This research also found that the connection between Arab writers and Indonesia is not merely as a conduit for Islamic Education that originated earlier in the Middle East, but they are also responsible for the dissemination of nationalist and political ideology in Indonesia for Arabic communities to break free from the shackles of Western imperialism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of identity and marginalization in Anis Susan’s poem "As-salaam ‘alaikum" using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. Adopting a qualitative approach with content analysis, this study examines symbols and meanings that reflect identity and marginalization. The poem is the primary data source, while secondary sources include academic references on identity, marginalization, and Peirce’s semiotics. Data collection involves document analysis and identifying words, phrases, and sentences as symbolic elements. These symbols are categorized into three types: (1) Identity Symbols, representing cultural, religious, and ethnic aspects; (2) Marginalization Symbols, highlighting social discrimination and oppression; and (3) Social Criticism Symbols, addressing systemic or ideological issues. The study applies Peirce’s triadic model, analyzing the representamen (symbolic form), object (referenced concept), and interpretant (derived meaning). Findings reveal that the poem employs linguistic and semiotic symbols to reflect a collective identity deeply rooted in cultural and social contexts. Identity is expressed through religious and cultural references, while marginalization appears in language structures conveying victimization and protest. The poem also critiques social injustice through poetic imagery, emphasizing oppression within the existing system

Abstract

This study aims to determine the meaning of the concept in the poem Al-Hubb Bilậ Hudậd by Nizar Qabbani. This study uses Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic analysis in interpreting symbols and meanings that are still veiled in the Al-Hubb Bilậ Hudṻd poem which consists of deciphering the hidden meaning behind the visible meaning, and at the level of meaning implicit in the literary meaning. Data analysis was carried out using various data collection techniques (triangulation), and carried out continuously. The analysis technique used in this research is to understand the meaning of poetry, identify the semantic meaning, describe the existential/ontological meaning, by decontructuring and reconstructing the text. The results of this study using Paul Ricoeur hermeneutics analysis there are two concepts, namely structural and phenomenal interpretation. In structural interpretation, women are metaphors of natural beauty metaphors, and men are loyal lovers. And in a phenomenal interpretation, a woman is a woman who has a smooth, gentle character, full of coolness and sincere affection of all time, so that she can grow a good generation. A man's love for women should never be interrupted and in fact must always give more to all roles and struggles of women in a family.
