Abstract

Objective: Describe the validity and practicality of the SCPjBL model in terms of development needs, up-to-date knowledge, and implementation of learning and student activities. Method: The method in this study is a development method that has been modified and applied in universities in 2024. The sample in this study was 180 people from two different universities. Data were collected based on the validation results and observation of the implementation of the SCPjBL model. The assessment instrument uses a validation sheet that is assessed by three validators who are experts in their respective fields. The instruments used for the implementation of the model are the lesson plan and student worksheet implementation observation sheet. The observation sheet was filled in by four observers who were divided into two observers who were tasked with observing the implementation of the SCPjBL model phase and two others who observed student activities. Results: The results of the observations were then analyzed quantitatively. A study in the form of validation results from three validators obtained an average score of 3.92 with an average validity percentage of 98% with a very valid category. The results of the practicality of the SCPjBL model and its supporting devices obtained a score of 3.56, with an average percentage of implementation reaching 91%. Novelty: This research emphasizes solving physics problems by taking two approaches simultaneously. It is done by exploring students' initial knowledge as an initial check for solving complex problems presented to students in the form of scientific phenomena

Abstract

Objective: One measure of achieving educational goals in higher education is the achievement of program learning outcomes (PLO). This learning achievement needs to be monitored and evaluated to develop the curriculum of the study program. This research aims to analyze the learning outcomes of undergraduate programs in building construction education. Method: This research is a type of evaluation research. The research subjects were all courses in The Undergraduate Program of Building Construction Education, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Data collection techniques used documentation and observation. Data analysis used quantitative descriptive techniques. Results: The results of this study indicate that based on the evaluation of learning outcomes, several courses have yet to reach the achievement limit (below 75). Therefore, the study program needs to formulate actions that can be taken to improve this condition. The improvement plan is highly dependent on the study program's objectives, graduate users' needs, and each course's characteristics. Novelty: The novelty of this research is the differences in instruments, research subjects, time, and specific learning outcome programs in the building construction education study program.

Abstract

Objective: Sports trainers contribute to the safety of adolescent athletes. The status of sports trainer services (STS) that use a trainer-certified system and trainer perceptions differ among countries, and reports from different countries are needed to promote the global use of STS. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of STS and the reasons for its use in Japanese high schools. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2022. Participants were all club activity coaches from all high schools (around 70,000 coaches) in Japan. The primary outcome was the prevalence of STS use. We obtained information on the payment status when STS was used and the reasons they were not. Results: Of the 6045 coaches included, 10.5% used STS. Volunteer trainers comprised 29.9%, and if they were paid a fee, it needed to be more for a living. The most common reason for not using STS was "no suitable person" (70.8%). Novelty: This was the first large-scale survey of the prevalence of STS use in Japanese high schools. The prevalence of STS use in Japanese high schools was low.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to explore entrepreneurship courses' challenges and competency needs at Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEI) and develop a compatible learning design for these courses. Method: Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through interviews with entrepreneurship lecturers to identify challenges and department heads to understand supporting policies and curriculum development. Additionally, Semester Learning Plans (RPS) content analysis was conducted to examine course content, competencies, and teaching methods. Results: The findings revealed inconsistencies in the entrepreneurship course designs across IHEI. Most courses focus on providing entrepreneurial insights and shifting students' mindsets, with limited practical experiences like essential product sales. Non-classroom entrepreneurship activities vary significantly depending on the lecturers' initiative and departmental coordination. Some departments did not prioritize these activities due to unclear guidance. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its proposed integrative learning design, which emphasizes knowledge internalization, skill-building, and attitude formation. The design includes four stages: mindset-building, business experience, start-up business, and business development, offering a structured approach to enhance entrepreneurial competencies in IHEI.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to determine the role of multiplayer online educational games in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. Method: This study utilizes a systematic review method guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach. A comprehensive search was conducted using Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science (WoS) databases, identifying studies that focused on multiplayer online educational games and their impact on critical thinking skills. Out of 910 studies identified, 20 met the inclusion criteria after a rigorous screening. Results: The results indicate a positive association between multiplayer educational games and enhancing critical thinking skills across various educational settings. Key aspects extracted include game design, educational context, participant demographics, and methodologies for assessing critical thinking outcomes. However, variability in game designs and measurement tools highlights a need for standardized assessment approaches in future research. Novelty: This review underscores the evolving potential of multiplayer online educational games as innovative tools for developing critical thinking skills. With the increasing integration of digital technologies in education, this study sheds light on how game-based learning can address 21st-century educational needs by fostering essential cognitive skills.

Abstract

Objective: The study's primary purpose is to investigate the effect of a Student-Centered Teaching Approach on Student's Academic Performance in Mathematics at the Secondary Level. Method: The study was carried out using the quasi-experiment method. In this study, convenient sampling was used to select secondary schools and select students for intervention. This study used a few instrumentations, such as a mathematics test, which was used for pre-and posttests. Results: The analysis data in the posttest reveal an increase in mean, mode, and median scores after implementing a student-centered approach toward the experimental group. This study proves that the effectiveness of a student-centered teaching approach positively impacts students' academic performance in mathematics. The rejection of the null hypothesis suggests that the student-centered approach led to a statistically significant improvement in students' scores compared to the teacher-centered approach. Novelty: This contributes valuable insights to educational practices, advocating for adopting student-centered methods in mathematics instruction. This study proved the effectiveness of the Student-Centered Teaching Approach on students's Academic Performance in Mathematics at the Secondary Level.
