Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic drastically impacted the world of education, influencing teachers' levels of stress and satisfaction. While numerous studies address teacher stress and job satisfaction, there is a paucity of evidence in the context of public senior high school science teachers in science instruction during a global health crisis. This explanatory sequential mixed-methods study examined the relationship between levels of science teaching satisfaction and perceived stress, as well as the factors contributing to teachers' satisfaction and stress. The researchers utilized standardized instruments and in-depth interviews with the research participants. Results showed that science teachers had average job satisfaction and moderately perceived stress in science teaching. The levels of perceived stress and job satisfaction between education and non-teacher education graduates are comparatively similar. Meanwhile, the study found a non-significant negative relationship between science teaching satisfaction and perceived stress. Furthermore, factors such as workplace culture, student learning, good compensation with opportunities for promotion, and professional development programs were found to impact teachers’ satisfaction in science teaching. Factors contributing to teachers’ perceived stress included the COVID-19 pandemic, availability of teaching and learning resources, limited contact hours, demands for submission of reports and other paperwork, student behavior and attitude towards studies, and teacher-specific factors. Finally, suggestions from the science teachers to reduce stress entailed maintaining work-life balance, exercising proper time management, reduced workloads to allow for a focus on teaching, and promoting collaboration among science teachers.

Abstract

With the advancement in eLearning technologies, eAssessments are becoming widely used. The overarching challenge in eAssessment is student authentication. An online invigilated or remote proctored exam system that engages a human proctor, supervising live via webcam, is a widely accepted method for student authentication. This study obtained views of tertiary accounting academics in Fiji using semi-structured interviews. Though educators prefer online assessments, there is a strong consensus that student authentication is a challenge. The findings reveal that academics are willing to accept online proctored exam system because it has the capability to validate students, along with minimising other forms of academic misconduct during exams. According to the academics, the online proctored exam system may be more acceptable among the postgraduate students compared to the undergraduate students because of the digital resource issues. It is also essential that attention is paid to network connectivity issues in Fiji when implementing online proctored exam systems.

Abstract

The Philippine education system is obscured of global competence by various challenges including developing skills and inclusive education (Diano, et. al, 2023). Since 2018, the Philippines has placed at the bottom, ranking last out of 78 participants, and barely improved in 2022 ranking 77th out of 81 countries participating (Education GPS & OECD, n.d.; OECD, 2022). A study revealed that essential competencies in the curriculum should highlight various concepts and contexts of problems in the community (Belmi & Mangali, 2020). Through a quantitative research design, this study analyzed 40 stratified samples of competencies and standards of the Grade 8 Science Curriculum Guide for its distribution and extent of socio-scientific issues (SSI) consideration and the underlying factors that could potentially hinder its effective implementation in the four (4) science disciplines. Findings revealed an unequal distribution of consideration in the curriculum guide for SSI in different science disciplines. Earth and Space with a mean of 4.26 appear to integrate SSI more effectively as compared to other science disciplines. On the other hand, varying factors such as limitations to various resources and socio-cultural contexts could largely hinder the implementation and integration of SSI in the curriculum guide. This study concludes that there is sufficient and acceptable frequency in the distribution of SSI in the curriculum guide of Science Grade 8 across four core disciplines, however, this study also acknowledges that there are present limitations that need to be considered.

Abstract

Along with the rising digitalization of businesses, social media influencers (SMI) have been essential in redefining how the online promotional system operates. In the Philippines alone, social media influencers are central to all online discussions. The country is known as the "social media capital of the world," as 86.3% of Filipinos follow at least one influencer and spend about 11 hours each week on social media. With the use of an existing theory and testable hypotheses, the researchers will gather data while adhering to the positivist philosophy. To obtain objective and statistically significant results, the researchers will measure, document, and examine the data through a survey. Moreover, the researchers will carry out various statistical testing, including PLS-SEM, average variance extraction (AVE), heterotrait-monotrait (HTMT) ratio, variance inflation factor (VIF), squared multiple correlation (R2), Stone–Geisser’s Q2, etc. using SmartPLS. Delving into the results, it was shown that influencer-branded content's interestingness does affect users to be emotionally attached. Research findings also revealed that influencer-generated content's novelty does not significantly affect users' emotional attachment to influencers. It was also shown that reliability positively affects emotional attachment, as well as information quality. But when it comes to understandability it shows no relationship with emotional attachment. Lastly, it is revealed that there is no significant relationship between emotional attachment and users' intention to disagree with the influencer. As a conclusion, social media influencers have become instrumental in making digital platforms a more enjoyable place to dwell.

Abstract

It is empirical that nurses must receive education and training to strengthen their research skills to apply evidence-based practice. This study aimed to ascertain how nurses' views toward undertaking research in private healthcare facilities correlated with their capacity for research. A predictive-correlational design was used in the study. 120 nurses were conveniently selected and included in the research. An adapted survey questionnaire from the study of Bostrom et al. (1989) and Perez et al. (2022) was used for data gathering. Results showed that majority of the respondents were female in their middle-age who had worked in the healthcare facility’s ward for two years or less. Their attitude toward research undertaking and ability were both quite excellent. Nurses' attitudes regarding performing research and their research competence were significantly correlated. However, there was no discernible correlation between attitudes and the demographic profile. Furthermore, the nurses’ research abilities greatly influence their attitudes toward performing research. These results show that nurses can undertake research and have a positive attitude toward it. The study emphasizes the need to strengthen these skills through education and training by highlighting the strong association between nurses' research capacities and their positive attitude toward undertaking research. Developing nurses' research abilities fosters an environment where practice is increasingly grounded on evidence.

Abstract

The technological breakthrough and the unprecedented pandemic largely impacted the educational system worldwide. The students’ experiences during this time affect their acquisition of the learning outcome and well-being. Although many studies have been conducted in this area, limited information is available on the correlation between the student’s challenges and adaptation between the two countries, the Philippines and Indonesia. Hence, this study attempts to fill in the void. The findings of this study revealed the following results: challenges encountered by the college students from the Philippines yielded a moderate extent (x̄=2.90; SD= 0.41) while the college students from Indonesia resulted to some extent (x̄=2.80; SD= 0.26); on adaptation, the college students from the Philippines showed a moderate extent (x̄=3.01; SD= 0.42) while the college students from Indonesia utilized adaptation to some extent (x̄=2.01; SD= 0.26). There is a positive correlation (0.153 and 0.485) between the schools in the Philippines and Indonesia. The variability in the college students’ responses may have been shaped by the different factors situated around him/her such as the availability of resources, type of learning platforms, computer literacy, student personality behavior towards learning, family structure, and the physical environment. The implications of the study on policy-making, programs on mental health, and future research are discussed.

Abstract

s the Philippines strives best to teach Filipino learners how to become globally competent learners and workers of the world in the future through its implementation of K-12 and the teaching of research subjects, it is befitting to assess how students are being prepared for writing research. While other countries conduct research consultations by scheduling appointments with librarians, the schools in the country make the most out of their teachers by serving as research consultants at the same time. This study analyzes how research consultations with Practical Research 1 teachers influence the perceived preparedness of 16 Grade 11 students in one non-sectarian school in Marikina City through qualitative narrative research. Based on the findings, it is concluded that the students view research consultations as a beneficial activity that improves their research writing and communication skills. Although beneficial, challenges such as incoherent feedback from validators, appointment conflicts, and miscommunication hinder them from maximizing the use of research consultations. In the end, the researchers recommend improving research consultation tools and management, and conducting a longitudinal quantitative approach to assess the effectiveness of research consultations in enhancing the competencies of students in research writing.

Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can benefit significantly from social media due to its user-friendly nature, cost-effectiveness, and widespread accessibility. By leveraging social media platforms, SMEs can effectively communicate with customers, market their products, facilitate internal collaboration, and provide customer sup-port at minimal costs. This research assessed the use of social media among SMEs in the fashion, food, beverages, cosmetics, and clothing industries in Masba-te province to enhance competitiveness. It focused on key areas such as customer engagement, social network marketing, website promo-tion, customer relationship management, and brand management, while also evaluating industry competitiveness based on customer satisfaction, loyalty, operational efficiency, and profitability.A quantitative descriptive approach was employed to evaluate variables and their relationships. Employees from SMEs were ran-domly selected as respondents, while industry customers were cho-sen through purposive sampling. A self-designed Likert-scale survey captured respondents' perspectives on the impact of social media practices on industry competitiveness, combining both quantitative and qualitative insights. The analysis included descriptive statistics, such as percentages and frequencies, to outline respondent profiles, and means and stand-ard deviations to examine trends in social media practices among SMEs. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to assess the effec-tiveness of these practices, while a t-test was used to highlight differ-ences in perceptions between respondent groups regarding social media effectiveness and industry competitiveness.

Abstract

Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) has been an emerging issue in various organizations, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) unit. Personnel going AWOL create gaps in the workforce which strain available resources, disrupt cohesiveness within the unit, and compromise the effectiveness of vital operations. This study sought to identify strategies for mitigating absence without official leave (AWOL) among Special Action Force (SAF) personnel, recognizing its multifaceted impact on the organization and its operations. Specifically, it aims to determine the sociodemographic profile, examine how the challenges faced by SAF personnel contribute to the increasing number of AWOL cases, identify the degree of the problems met by SAF personnel, analyze if there is a significant relationship between the extent of challenges and the degree of problems met in the AWOL status of SAF personnel and ascertain frameworks of strategies and resolutions for SAF units as mechanisms to control AWOL status. The study involved a quantitative survey research design where questionnaires were used to collect data from a total of 240 respondents. Frequency, percentage distribution, means, Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient was used using Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results imply that there is no relationship between the difficulties AWOL SAF members face and the extent of issues they encounter into. Personal circumstances including family problems, mental health challenges, or dissatisfaction with work conditions frequently have an impact on AWOL incidents. This emphasizes how complicated AWOL incidents can be and how important it is to take each situation and motivations into account when dealing with them. This indicates the need to implement more programs that will address their needs, boost their morale and will promote work-life balance activities.
