Abstract

Summer camps have proven effective in providing opportunities for social contact, personal development, and the improvement of the problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities of the students. However, significant findings about head campers’ lived experiences in the field are scarce, especially in the Philippine context. To provide a groundwork of the phenomenon, this study delved into the head campers' lived experiences in preparation and implementation phases using the descriptive phenomenology of Husserl. At the same time, Colaizzi’s seven-step method was used in thematic analysis. Individual guided interviews were utilized to gather participants’ responses. Nine head campers who were active participants from the beginning up to the end of the program served as the participants of the study. Based on the participants’ narratives, the following themes were generated: a) preparation phase: triumphs in camaraderie, teachers are willing to learn new subject matter, time constraints in preparing the resources, and no ample time to review new subject matter; b) implementation phase: develop students’ positive learning behavior, develop students’ thinking skills, Students unable to master the fundamental knowledge, and teachers are struggling to integrate higher order thinking skills. The findings implied that despite the sector and participants’ efforts to make the program successful, there were still untoward instances that are beyond the program’s expectations. Therefore, mentoring sessions and feed-backing activities all throughout the implementation must be strengthened and closely monitored by higher authorities so they can provide immediate and practical assistance for the head campers.

Abstract

This study investigated the correlation between Green Human Resource Management (GHRM), Organizational Citizenship Behavior towards the Environment (OCBE), and Business Sustainability among selected construction companies in Cebu City. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational-comparative approach with the participation of 102 heads and staff of selected construction companies in Cebu City. The selected statistical treatments showed a positive relationship among the three indicators, meaning they can significantly influence organizational performance and shape the organizational culture. Also, the study's findings revealed that behavior towards green practices is contingent upon the organization's commitment to the goals of GHRM and OCBE, which can affect business sustainability. With that in mind, the researchers have concluded that green human resource management practices have become a part of the organization's mindset. Both management and employees value GHRM indicators, reflected in their behavior towards the environment and business sustainability practices. Furthermore, the study recommends that the construction companies that participated in the research should adopt the sustainability framework created by the researchers.

Abstract

Disabled individuals often spend their lives grappling with low levels of optimism and unmet needs. It has been widely accepted that people with disabilities generally have fewer educational opportunities and a lower quality of life than their non-disabled counterparts. This present study employs descriptive research to investigate the relationship between life orientation and academic performance among selected students with physical disabilities. The participants were chosen through purposive sampling, consisting of sixty-four respondents from selected schools in Manila. Data were collected using a survey instrument, The Life Orientation Test Revised (LOTR). The researcher utilized the Z-test, H- test, weighted mean, and ANOVA to identify differences in variables, and Pearson's r to explore relationships. The findings revealed that students with physical disabilities are optimistic individuals; they accept and confront their condition despite the inconveniences and pain it may cause. Moreover, the present study showed that the higher the level of life orientation, the better the academic performance. Therefore, there is a need for the educational system to consider the life orientation of students when developing new strategies and approaches to understanding and teaching students with physical disabilities.

Abstract

The rampaging food insecurity around the globe and particularly in Nigeria despite the availability of suitable land mass for agriculture and the teeming youthful population raised concern for the study. The possibility of exploring the opportunity provided by the National Youth Service Corps in reorientating Nigeria graduates in agropreneurship using a self-developed manual necessitated the study. The study employed pretest posttest design. Convenient sampling technique was employed in sampling 73 corps members who were serving in Ile Ife and its environs. Agropreneurship Interest Scale (AIS) a self-developed 20-item likert-type questionnaire was used for data gathering. The content validity ratio (α = 1) and reliability coefficient (r = 0.89) respectively were obtained for the instrument. Analysis of data showed that participants had low interest in agropreneurship (18.33%) before the commencement of the training. Also, that the training has significant impact on the agropreneurship interest of the participants (mean learning gain of the participant = 67.89%). The study concluded that Nigeria youths particularly the Corpers can be effectively motivated in agropreneurship using appropriate manual and strategies.

Abstract

A profound relationship exists between literature and peace that transcends centuries and cultures. In the southern Philippines, the Meranaw people consider peace to be more than a mere notion; it is an intrinsic aspect of their cultural and traditional way of life. Furthermore, by applying critical discourse analysis to the symbols and images in the Volume 1 of the Meranaw epic Darangen, this literary research elucidates the significance of peace. This is further supported by Aristotle's Theory of Poetry, Stuart Hall's Cultural Studies, Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory, and Karl Marx's Marxism. Moreover, it is found that fear, marriage, dialogue, status, royalty, tolerance, power, nobility and proletariat, cleanliness, communication, discontinuity, death, politeness, sacrifice, pride, royalty, divinity, harmony, support, safety, divine protection, and courage are the meanings of the symbols and images in relation to peace. Each symbol and image in the epic illustrate how the Meranaw people define peace. Peace is represented in marriage, gatherings in the torogan, the colors of the malong, flags, jewelry and gold, gifts, and divine like the spirits, magic chair, and shield in the epic. Further, the epic portrays that peace for the Meranaw people can only be achieved by valuing their honor, dignity, self-esteem, and reputation. Hence, this study revealed the symbols and images in the epic that reflect the concepts of peace in the Meranaw community.

Abstract

The construction industry in Cebu City is growing, but sustainability is essential, especially during times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. Some businesses have not enhanced their sustainable practices to survive the new normal. The main objective of this study is to explore the triple bottom line of a construction company in Cebu City, Philippines. The study employed a descriptive-correlational research design, and the sample comprised 58 rank-and-file employees selected through a simple random sampling method. The collected data were analyzed, tabulated, and interpreted using various statistical techniques, namely weighted mean, and Pearson correlation coefficient. The relationship between these three variables was examined, and it was determined that they were positively correlated. The study's conclusion emphasized that balancing economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental preservation is crucial for long-term sustainability. Therefore, prioritizing these aspects can improve a company's performance and contribute to its long-term sustainability.
