Abstract

The association of Strongyloides stercoralis in Type 2 Diabetes mellitus has put on a spotlight on various researchers after the discovery of S. stercoralis's capability to conduct immunomodulation through lowering the production and release of cytokines, all of which provide a contradictory action towards the development of T2DM. T2DM results from a high number of macrophages that secrete cytokines and chemokines abnormally, which affects the B-pancreatic cells and leads to insulin resistance. However, regardless of this information, the linkage of the immunomodulation mechanism of S. stercoralis infection against T2DM still needs clarification and further validation. Thus, this systematic review was conceptualized to identify if there is a direct association between S. stercoralis and T2DM, including the effects of the helminth on patients with such a disease, and the underlying factors related to this relationship. Studies for the review were collected in the following databases: PubMed, ProQuest, Wiley, Open Access Theses and Dissertations (OATD), Internet Archive Scholars, and Elsevier. The 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria was utilized to identify and screen eligible studies for review and among the chosen articles, three have suggested a direct association between S. stercoralis infection and T2DM, while two studies proved the absence of an association by statistical and clinical characteristics. These limited findings and conflicting evidence for a direct link between S. stercoralis and T2DM may indicate that the comorbidity of both factors points more toward an indirect relationship.

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of teacher-mediated pronunciation instruction on enhancing the oral language fluency of seventh-grade English students. Using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent groups design, 32 learners served as respondents of the thirteen-session- study in a secondary school in Southern Luzon, Philippines. The student-respondents were tested to find out whether there would be a significant difference in their knowledge and application of the segmentals and suprasegmentals before and after the implementation of the said intervention. In all the instruments, namely the dictation test, pronunciation achievement test, and aural-oral achievement test, the findings revealed that the experimental group performed significantly higher than the control group. Through the independent sample t-test and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), the results revealed that the experimental group had higher mean scores than the control group with t-computed values exceeding the tabular values affirming that an explicit pronunciation instruction is better in enhancing the oral language fluency of students than only incidental acquisition. The more the learners are exposed to an intervention, the more that they will become intelligible. Other effects also include the more frequently that the teacher conducts various games, the more that the students enjoy and learn pronunciation; and the more refined a learner’s pronunciation skill is, the more improved he/she is when it comes to listening comprehension and spelling. Finally, it is recommended that more and newer interventions regarding second language phonology or any content that focuses on speaking as a macro-strand in English should be delved into.

Abstract

This study evaluated teachers' perceived stress and anxiety levels. This study put into open and addressed the gap among the perceived stress and anxiety levels of the participants of the study as an input to an intervention program for the 39 teaching personnel of one of the leading university extension campuses in the province of Pampanga for the academic year 2021-2022. The study has 2 phases: the quantitative and the qualitative phase. This study was assessed through a 5-point type-Likert questionnaire, which is the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (1983) PROMIS Health Organization (PHO), and PROMIS Cooperative (2012). The Sequential Explanatory Approach was used in this study. In the quantitative data analysis of the results, the mean, frequency, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation were used. Outliers were then identified and used as variables in the qualitative process. For the qualitative part, interview transcriptions were included, and transcribed data were extracted and labeled to units of meaning through key point coding. Codings with similarities were grouped into concepts that were analyzed to form themes. There were 10 teachers as participants to collect qualitative data, an open-ended interview was used. Findings revealed that the participants’ perceived stress contributed to low self-esteem and life irritations. Also, it revealed that participants encountered worry, nervousness, and tension; all of these symptoms brought about by anxiety. This study also revealed that there is no relationship between the demographic profiles of the respondents and their perception of stress and anxiety. Due to the positive result of the research, and the lack of stress and anxiety management programs in the institution, this study recommended a program that was formulated and then validated by the expert to provide reasonable practices and approaches to the stress and anxiety of the participants.

Abstract

Quality teaching methods such as Diagnostic Remedial Teaching (DRT) and the positive attitude of teachers significantly enhance the academic achievement of the students. This study investigates whether traditional teaching methods and negative attitudes of teachers play any significant role in the poor performance of low academic achievements. The study's objectives were to determine teachers' attitudes toward low academic achievers, Diagnostic Remedial Teaching (DRT), and the problems involved in implementing DRT in the classrooms. The sample size covers 42 Federal Government Educational Institutes (FGEI) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, involving 230 teachers and 22 principals. Findings reveal that the teachers hold a positive attitude toward implementing Diagnostic Remedial teaching (DRT) in the classroom. Still, inadequate training and heavy workloads of the teachers were the primary challenges. In addition, their attitudes toward low academic achievers were positive. However, they held negative attitudes towards those students who enrolled in the institutes without qualifying for the admission test standard criteria.

Abstract

This study is part of an ongoing teacher-led initiative in understanding the co-creation of a transformative learning experience in the online event marketing classroom. The study measures the impact of student engagement on student-defined learning success in online learning. Using a mixed methods approach, it investigates data collected through a survey questionnaire in three different years from students who enrolled in two course subjects. This study demonstrates that student engagement is significantly correlated with and predicts learner-defined learning success in online learning. Furthermore, it finds that there were statistically significant differences in levels of student engagement and learning success among different cohorts, particularly when compared to cohorts who took the course subject in the later year. The differences may have been a result of the development of skills appropriate for online learning, and in improvements in course content and delivery.

Abstract

In an era characterized by an overwhelming abundance of information and media channels, the concept of truth and reality has become increasingly complex. Media literacy, the ability to critically analyse, evaluate, and understand media messages, plays a crucial role in navigating this complexity. This paper explores the philosophical dimensions of media literacy and its implications for the understanding of truth and reality. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from philosophy, communication studies, and cognitive science, this study investigates the intricate relationship between media literacy and the construction of truth and reality. By delving into various philosophical frameworks, including epistemology, ontology, and phenomenology, the research examined how individuals' media literacy skills shape their perceptions and interpretations of truth and reality. Additionally, the study examines how media literacy influences individuals' ontological understanding of reality. It explores how media messages shape and mediate individuals' perception of the world, examining the interplay between subjective experiences, social constructs, and media representations. Furthermore, the study investigated the potential for media literacy to foster a more nuanced understanding of reality, encouraging individuals to engage in critical reflexivity and challenge their preconceived notions. The findings of this study showed that media literacy plays a pivotal role in enhancing critical thinking skills and mitigating truth distortion in a post-truth society.

Abstract

Jambi Province is one of the provinces in Indonesia with natural mining wealth which contains many natural resource reserves. The processing of these natural resources has the potential to be managed as an energy source very well, such as the natural resources contained in it are coal. one of the areas in Kotoboyo village, Dalam subdistrict XXIV, Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province, is one of the largest coal producing areas in Indonesia, this area has been very productive in recent years, several coal mining companies have been located in the area, this does not necessarily mean that This means that the results of coal reserves can have a positive impact on the people who live in the surrounding area. In fact, there tends to be no visible environmental impact on the community. The mining activity process around the mine still uses national public road access, causing traffic jams that last for kilometers and disrupt traffic. crossing public roads in local communities, the Central, Regional Government and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources should firmly work together to face the polemics that occur in the community as quickly as possible to provide solutions so that special road access to reduce the massive mobility of coal mining movements can be realized immediately for the prosperity of the community's economic movement.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the country’s legal framework for taxing digital transactions. Specifically, the extensiveness of which the provisions of the legal framework can implement the value of digital transactions to taxpayers. This study employs a qualitative method by reviewing and further analyzing relevant case studies, recent gap analysis, policies, and literature on taxing digital transactions, and conducting interviews with policy experts from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Recent study recommends enhanced policy measures based on the findings on new digital technology and its possible interactions with both current and proposed tax policies, three (3) policies were recommended. First, optimizing existing authority to tax over online platforms. Second, to have a digital-ready tax administration. Finally, to have an expanded and continued investigation for enhancement and liability regarding these digital transactions. Findings include that the BIR doesn’t have enough systems to capture all revenue-generated digital service providers and is unable to track all revenue-generating digital platforms. The Philippines should continue improving taxing rights and administration pursuant to modern times. This study concluded that digital platforms can be designated as withholding agents, improve communication channels with these digital platforms and tie them up with BIR exclusively for data access, and finally, a centralized BIR portal where all digital service providers will be registered and monitored. This will be the tax platform for online transactions that is convenient and accessible for taxpayers and is deemed a highly resilient revenue generation and imposition of tax administration as time changes.
