Abstract

This study investigates how parents with different educational backgrounds support second-grade elementary students who are potentially struggling with dyslexia in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The research explores their awareness of dyslexia and the strategies they employ to assist their children's language learning. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with four parents at a school in central Singaraja. The findings indicate that educated parents tend to demonstrate greater involvement, including the use of digital tools, the establishment of structured study routines, and consistent communication with teachers. In contrast, less-educated parents commonly depend on repetition-based methods and hold the belief that their children’s challenges will pass over time. These contrasts highlight the importance of parental education in shaping support strategies and the need for stronger school-parent partnerships. The study also advocates for accessible resources and training to equip parents better to support their children’s literacy development, especially in EFL contexts.

Abstract

Blended learning has become an important trend in the teaching and learning of the English language. Although numerous studies have investigated its effectiveness, the specific factors contributing to its success remain unclear and somewhat overlooked. This study aims to identify the key factors that support the successful implementation of blended learning in the university EFL context in Iraq. Using a quantitative descriptive research design, a questionnaire covering four domains was administered to a sample of fifty-five fourth-year Iraqi EFL students from the English Department at the University of Anbar. The data was analyzed using SPSS to determine means and standard deviations. The findings revealed that institutional factors, teacher-related factors, psychological factors, and student-related factors, respectively, play significant roles in the effectiveness of blended learning. The study concludes that combining traditional education with modern technologies can enhance learning outcomes in English as a foreign language at the university level in Iraq.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of differentiated instruction in teaching narrative texts of 8th-grade students at SMP Islam Sidoarjo and to evaluate students' narrative writing within this approach. Numerous studies have investigated the students' comprehension of narrative material in general. Therefore, this study attempts to fill this gap by focusing on Indonesia's fairy tales and legends. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis of students' writing focused on five components: content, organisation, language use, grammar, and mechanics. Showed higher achievement in content understanding, with lowest performance in mechanics and language use. The results indicate that differentiated instruction enhances students' engagement and comprehension in narrative writing, though further focus is needed on improving technical writing aspects. The findings revealed that the English teacher implemented differentiated instruction by adjusting content, process, and product based on students' readiness, interests, and learning profiles. Other findings show that teachers did not conduct diagnostic tests to determine group based on students' learning styles. Therefore, it is important for further researchers to pay attention to teacher abilities when implementing differentiated learning, so that no steps are missed. This research contributes to providing insights for teachers in optimizing differentiated instruction in English writing.

Abstract

This study aims to improve hand-eye coordination in 4–5-year-old children through sensorimotor games at PAUD Anak Bangsa Palembang. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR) in two cycles, the first cycle applied meronce and the second used puzzles. The subjects were 12 Group A children. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. Results showed improved hand-eye coordination across cycles, with significant progress during puzzle activities. In the first cycle, improvements were visible but still in the early stages. In contrast, the second cycle showed more optimal development. Thus, sensorimotor games like bead-stringing and puzzles effectively enhance hand-eye coordination in early childhood learning activities.

Abstract

Vocabulary plays a vital role in language acquisition, especially for students studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL), as it significantly affects their comprehension, communication skills, and academic success. However, students in Islamic junior high schools encounter unique challenges due to their exposure to multiple languages and the integration of religious themes, which are often not addressed in current research. This research aims to investigate the vocabulary learning strategies used by students at MTs Muslimat NU Palangka Raya, along with the challenges they face. A mixed-methods approach was employed, gathering data through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations. The results indicate that cognitive and social strategies are the most commonly utilized, while challenges include difficulties with vocabulary retention, pronunciation issues, and language interference. The study concludes that integrating contextually and culturally relevant approaches into vocabulary teaching can improve student learning and retention, especially in religious educational contexts.
