Abstract

Education is a strategic process to improve the quality of human resources to be able to compete globally. In Indonesia, the challenges of equalizing and improving the quality of education are very complex, especially due to diverse geographical conditions. One of the main factors determining the success of education is teacher competence, which includes pedagogical, professional, personality, and social aspects. Along with technological advances, there are great opportunities to improve the quality of learning through the use of educational technology. This study aims to analyze efforts to improve teacher professional competence through training and the use of technology in realizing innovative learning. The method used is a literature study with data collection techniques through written sources such as books, journals, scientific articles. The results of this literature study show that structured and ongoing training on the use of technology, such as digital learning platforms and interactive media, has a positive impact on improving teacher teaching skills. Teachers become more creative in designing relevant and interesting learning experiences for students. In conclusion, technology-based training has a significant contribution to improving teacher professional competence and encouraging the creation of innovative learning that is adaptive to the needs of the times.

Abstract

Primary education is the foundation for the intellectual development of students, one of which can be measured through literacy and numeracy skills. However, in some areas, particularly in regions with specific environmental characteristics such as wetlands, there are numerous challenges that hinder the achievement of these basic competencies. This study aims to identify the factors influencing the low literacy and numeracy skills of elementary school students in schools located in the wetland areas of Banjarmasin City. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and school principals, direct field observations, and literacy and numeracy tests to measure students' abilities. The findings show that the literacy and numeracy skills of students in the five schools are at a low level, caused by several factors, including limited educational facilities, low parental education levels, and the geographical and socio-economic challenges present in the wetland environment. Some recommendations for improvement include enhancing educational facilities, teacher training, and increasing parental involvement in supporting learning at home. This study provides insight into how environmental factors play a critical role in determining the quality of education in the area and offers solutions that can be implemented to address these issues

Abstract

Speaking assessment using video role-playing games provides an engaging and realistic alternative for assessing speaking ability. Despite its potential, research exploring students' perceptions of this assessment method is limited.  This study aims to describe students' perceptions of narrative role-play videos as a speaking assessment. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach, with thematic analysis to analyze the data. Meanwhile, data were collected from 30 eleventh grade students at MAN Purworejo through an open-ended questionnaire. The findings showed that the majority of students had a positive perception of the method, highlighting benefits such as increased vocabulary, fluency, and confidence, although some experienced technical difficulties. Overall, the use of narrative role-play videos became a more interactive and relevant speaking assessment method, while improving students' communicative competence.

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of EFL students at the State Islamic University of Raden Intan Lampung in using the ReadTheory.org website to enhance their reading comprehension. Employing a qualitative narrative inquiry design, the research aims to gain in-depth insights into how students interact with and benefit from the platform. Data were collected primarily through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory (1984), which includes four stages—concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation—served as the analytical framework. The findings indicate that ReadTheory.org supports students’ reading development by providing level-adjusted reading texts, which contribute significantly to improving their reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

The results of research conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Mengwi and SMA Negeri 1 Kuta Utara showed differences in student learning activities in geography learning between rural and urban areas in Badung Regency. This study aims to compare students' learning activities by using comparative quantitative research methods. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive techniques and hypothesis testing. Based on the analysis, it was found that the average student learning activity in urban areas was higher than that in rural areas. The larger standard deviation in urban areas indicates a wider variety of learning activities than in rural areas. The distribution of learning activity categories also shows that more students in urban areas fall into the “high” and “very high” categories compared to students in rural areas. Hypothesis testing results show significant differences between students' learning activities in the two regions. This finding is an important basis in formulating more effective and contextualized learning strategies according to the characteristics of each region.

Abstract

This study adopts a descriptive approach with a qualitative methodology, aiming to identify the factors contributing to learning difficulties in Accounting, specifically regarding the Worksheet subtopic, among students in the XII SOS class at St. Darius Larantuka Private High School for the academic year 2024-2025. The research employs a target area site method, with the selection of research subjects determined through a snowball sampling technique. Data collection is conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation, which are subsequently analyzed in three stages: data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students' difficulties in learning Accounting related to Worksheets stem from a lack of foundational knowledge and skills in accounting, such as the ability to analyze, calculate, and record transaction data; a low interest in learning accounting; less engaging teaching methods; and limited resources for accounting education, including the availability of textbooks and other supporting materials.

The purpose of this study was to investigate ChatGPT's function as a writing aid for EFL students enrolled in writing classes. In particular, it looks at how the students use ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool. The study was carried out at one of Jambi's public universities' English departments. This study used a case study methodology in conjunction with a qualitative approach. Five English education students enrolled in writing classes participated in this study. Based on the criteria, the researcher chose the right individuals using purposive sampling. The researcher interviewed the individuals in order to collect data. The researcher applied thematic analysis to the data analysis. According to the study's findings, ChatGPT plays six roles in the writing process. They are gathering ideas, recommending references, identifying the best words and vocabulary, locating an outline or story plot, organizing the writing outcome, and even having discussions on the writing content.

Abstract

This study analyzes the poem O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman using pragmatic stylistic analysis based on speech acts, deixis, and implicature. It adopts a qualitative descriptive analytic model and seeks to answer the question of how Whitman’s linguistic choices affect the emotional and communicative dimensions of the poem. It’s found that expressive, directive, and commission speech acts create feelings of grief, admiration, and a promise of remembrance. Personal, temporal, and spatial deixes emphasize the relationship between the speaker, the deceased leader, and the historical context. The message of the poem, the irony of victory hidden in deep loss, is revealed through implicature. This study shows that Whitman’s choice of language in the elegy touches the hearts of the nation. The study reveals the importance of carrying out a pragmatic stylistic analysis of poetry to discover more meanings behind the text.

The study of language and literature entitled Character Education Values in the Novel Savannah by Ima Lawaru explores the character education values presented in the story of a coastal child from Torina who dreams of conquering the world but loses that ambition after becoming a victim of sexual violence by an unknown person. This research aims to describe the character education values and analyze the storyline in the novel. Using a descriptive qualitative method and library research approach, data analysis was carried out through comparison, categorization, and inference techniques. The findings reveal that the novel contains 12 character’s education values: religious values, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creativity, curiosity, national spirit, love for the homeland, respect for achievement, friendship and communication, social concern, and perseverance. These values offer meaningful implications that can be applied in character education in both schools and higher education institutions in Indonesia.
