Abstract

Writing the background section of a thesis could be a challenge for final-year students, especially when it comes to using correct grammar and constructing a logical flow. Grammarly, a widely used grammar checking tool, is often relied upon to improve writing quality. This study aims to find out English Education students' perspectives and experiences of using Grammarly to help them write their thesis background. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six final-year students who had used the free version of Grammarly. The findings revealed that Grammarly effectively detects basic grammatical errors such as tenses, punctuation, and article usage, and increases students’ writing confidence. However, limitations include feature restrictions, dependency on internet access, and occasional inaccuracy in feedback. Students found Grammarly helpful as a preparatory tool, but acknowledged it cannot replace supervisor feedback. In conclusion, Grammarly supports grammar correction and confidence-building but should be used as a complementary, not a substitute, academic writing aid.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in internalizing the value of mutual assistance among eighth-grade students at SMPN 11 Baubau. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that IRE teachers play a crucial role as role models, integrators of values within the learning process, facilitators of collaborative activities, character mentors, and bridges between the school and parents. The internalization of mutual help values is supported by exemplary behavior, routine practices, family involvement, and the creation of a positive classroom environment. Despite these efforts, several challenges were identified, including variations in student character, limited time for values education, the influence of social media, and low initial awareness of mutual help values among students. Nevertheless, with consistent and collaborative strategies, the value of mutual assistance can be effectively instilled, shaping students into empathetic, responsible individuals with strong social solidarity.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (ECE) plays a crucial role in shaping children's character and moral foundation. One of the key aspects that supports this is religious education, which, through a curriculum based on Islamic values, instills noble character from an early age. This study aims to examine the implementation of curriculum management based on the Ke'Aisyiyahan values at TK Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal 32 Banjarmasin. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research explores the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum that integrates the Merdeka Curriculum with Islamic values. The findings indicate that curriculum planning is carried out through internal workshops that align the Merdeka Curriculum with the Ke'Aisyiyahan Guidelines. The learning process is conducted using thematic methods and projects that instill religious values, such as love for plants and daily prayers. Evaluation is performed regularly through weekly observations, which are then discussed in monthly evaluation meetings to adjust teaching strategies. This study provides insights into the implementation of a values-based curriculum in ECE, focusing on the development of Islamic character and emotional intelligence from an early age. This curriculum is expected to shape students who are not only intellectually capable but also possess strong character and high spirituality.

Abstract

This paper affirms that communication theory in nonverbal behaviour is critical in conveying messages in social relations. In EFL classroom contexts, non-verbal behaviours remain important as they can assist both teachers and students during the learning process. This paper explores the types of non-verbal behaviors utilized by EFL teachers in teaching English in a vocational school. This study was designed as an observational study. Data were collected from a classroom video segment of 29 minutes which was observed and the categorization of gesture forms was adopted from Wang and Loewen (2016). This study finds that non-verbal behaviors such as metaphoric, emblems, affect displays, deictic, beats, head movement, and iconic were produced by the teacher participant. The findings indicate that the use of non-verbal behaviors supports the natural role of learning in the classroom, which is crucial for helping students understand language in the classroom.

Abstract

At the elementary school level, learning difficulties are a natural part of the educational process, particularly in Islamic religious education. One common challenge faced by students is the difficulty in writing fragments of Qur’anic verses or surahs. This study aims to analyze the underlying causes of students’ difficulties in writing Qur’anic texts, as well as to identify the inhibiting and supporting factors involved in the process. The research employs a qualitative approach and follows three stages: observation, interviews, and documentation. These data collection procedures are essential steps in obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the issue. This study further explores the challenges students face in writing Qur’anic verses accurately and in accordance with proper writing conventions. Learning to write the Qur’an offers numerous benefits. Not only does it enhance students’ fine motor skills, but it also supports the development of their memorization abilities. Through the practice of repeated writing, students are more likely to internalize and remember the verses, as repetition is a powerful tool in reinforcing memory—people often recall what they repeatedly write.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the role of Meta AI WhatsApp as a technological tool for enhancing English reading skills in higher education. A descriptive qualitative research design was employed, utilizing interviews and open-ended questionnaires to gather in-depth data. The research was conducted with students from the English Education Department at Zainul Hasan Genggong Islamic University. Five participants were purposively selected based on their relevant experience and willingness to participate. The findings showed that Meta AI WhatsApp supported reading comprehension through several key features, including automatic translation, grammar correction, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. Additionally, the platform was found to increase students’ motivation and engagement with English texts. The study also identified several challenges, including answers that are too general, a lack of voice features, and dependence on internet access. Despite these limitations, the study highlights the potential of Meta AI WhatsApp to serve as an effective supplementary tool in language learning. It is recommended that future developments incorporate features such as adjustable difficulty levels and text-to-speech functionality to further enhance its educational value.
