Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique in improving students’ speaking skills at junior high school. The background of this research is based on the fact that speaking is often the most challenging aspect of English language learning, as students tend to fear making mistakes and lack self-confidence. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group. The instruments used were speaking tests, observation, and documentation. Data analysis using the t-test revealed a significant difference between students taught using the TSTS technique and those who were not. The findings indicate that the TSTS technique is effective in enhancing students' speaking skills, as it promotes active interaction, idea exchange, and increased confidence. The implications of this study suggest that teachers are encouraged to integrate the TSTS technique in speaking instruction to create a more communicative and participatory learning environment.

Abstract

The challenges experienced by Grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Bataraguru in memorizing the Qur'an—such as poor memory, forgetfulness, low motivation, and inaccuracies in pronouncing makhraj and tajwid—serve as the background for this study. This classroom action research aims to improve students’ Qur'an memorization skills through the application of talqin, tikrar, and muraja’ah techniques. The talqin method involves the teacher reciting Qur'anic verses for students to imitate, followed by tikrar, where students repeatedly echo the verses. Finally, muraja’ah encourages students to regularly review previously memorized verses to ensure long-term retention. The research was conducted in two cycles, using tests, documentation, and observation as instruments, with a total sampling technique involving all students in the class. The results show a significant improvement in students' memorization abilities, with the average score increasing from 67.96 in Cycle I to 83.12 in Cycle II, categorized as very good. These findings indicate that the implementation of talqin, tikrar, and muraja’ah techniques is effective in enhancing Al-Qur’an memorization among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of QuillBot, an AI-based writing tool, in enhancing the English writing skills of EFL students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram. Using a pretest–posttest design with a quantitative approach, the research involved a sample of 15 students who received training in utilizing QuillBot for academic writing tasks. Students’ writing performance was assessed before and after a four-week intervention. The results demonstrated a significant improvement, with the average score increasing from 56.73 in the pretest to 75.67 in the posttest. These findings suggest that QuillBot effectively improves writing quality, particularly in grammar, vocabulary, and cohesion. However, the study did not compare QuillBot with other AI tools, nor did it explore its broader impact on motivation or critical thinking. Future research is recommended to conduct comparative studies and to investigate the long-term implications of AI integration in language learning.

Abstract

Pancasila Education has a strategic role in shaping the character and solidarity of students as the next generation of the nation. This article aims to examine how Pancasila values are implemented in higher education and to what extent these values are able to shape solidarity among students. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study indicate that internalization of Pancasila values, such as mutual cooperation, unity, and social justice, in the curriculum and student activities can strengthen students' sense of solidarity, tolerance, and social responsibility. Thus, Pancasila Education is not only an instrument for learning values, but also a vehicle for forming social cohesion in the campus environment. This article recommends increasing the integration of Pancasila values in the formal and non-formal education process to shape the character of students with a spirit of solidarity and nationality.

Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing Indonesian EFL Islamic University students' preference for educational influencers over their teacher educators. While social media has emerged as a significant source of information, there is a limited understanding of why students trust online influencers more than their formally qualified lecturers. The purpose of this study is to analyze and identify the specific reasons behind this comparative trust. Using qualitative interviews with five EFL students, data was collected via WhatsApp and analyzed through reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings reveal four main factors: (1) engaging and visually appealing video content, (2) relevance of topics to daily life, (3) entertaining and interactive teaching methods, and (4) perceived credibility enhanced by social media following. These results highlight the need for traditional educators to adapt teaching styles and integrate digital tools to better meet students' current learning preferences.

Abstract

This study explores secondary school EFL learners' preferences for multimodal learning materials, which addresses the need for learner-centered strategies in 21st century education. Although existing research highlights the general benefits of multimodal teaching, few studies have examined students' specific preferences for text, audio, and video formats. Using a quantitative descriptive design, data was collected from 132 junior high school students in Indonesia through a VARK-based questionnaire and Likert-scale items. The results showed that video was the most preferred medium (50.8%), followed by text and audio. Students reported that video materials were more engaging and effective in improving comprehension and motivation. Although the VARK model provides background insights, this study shows that learners' actual media choices have more influence on instructional design. This demands the use of multimedia resources that reflect students' preferences and enhance engagement in EFL learning.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the relevance of master's degree (S2) education to the challenges in the workforce through a tracer study of graduates from the year 2022. A tracer study is a survey conducted to gather data on graduates' perceptions regarding the alignment of their S2 education with job requirements and career development. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 72 graduates, with a response rate of 100%. The results show that all respondents were employed before starting their S2 education. Of the 52 respondents who answered, 43 (82.7%) stated that their S2 education was aligned with their job requirements and assisted in career development. Additionally, 26 (50%) graduates felt that higher-level education was needed for more advanced career positions. Meanwhile, 3 (5.8%) respondents indicated that their current jobs only required lower-level education. These findings indicate that S2 education plays a significant role in professional career development, although there is a noted need for further education at higher levels for certain positions. Recommendations include enhancing cooperation between educational institutions and industries to align curricula with specific job requirements and providing advanced education programs relevant to professional career demands

Abstract

This study analyses the use of speech act in the diplomatic speeches of Retno Marsudi and Sugiono in international forums supporting Palestine. Based on Searle’s speech act theory and Toulmin’s argumentation theory, this study explores how each diplomat used linguistics strategies to construct meaning and covey political support. The data collection techniques in this research are first, watching videos of Retno Marsudi’s and Sugiono's speeches at the 16th UN and BRICS Summit through YouTube. Second, transcribing the selected videos. Third, searching for their speech texts on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Fourth, reading the text and then collecting data by selecting which phrases to take. The last is identifying the phrases that match the category characteristics. Using descriptive qualitative method in the analysis, Retno Marsudi tends to use directive speech acts to urge immediate action from the UN Security Council and commissive speech acts to emphasize Indonesia's commitment to justice. On the other hand, Sugiono uses expressive and directive speech acts to build international solidarity and invite Southern countries to support Palestine. The analysis shows that Retno Marsudi emphasizes direct conceptual meaning, while Sugiono uses associative meaning to strengthen global solidarity and justice. This difference reflects the rhetorical strategies used in accordance with their respective audiences and objectives in international forums. This research provides insight into the use of language in diplomatic forums that can influence policy in international relations.
