Abstract

Nonformal education is a strategic instrument for strengthening social resilience and community independence in the face of global challenges. However, its role is often marginalised and not yet optimally integrated into formal education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, analysing scientific articles, educational policies, and best practices related to the role of nonformal education in social empowerment. The analysis was conducted by identifying the main themes: social resilience, individual independence, and non-formal-formal education synergy. The results show that nonformal education contributes significantly to improving life skills, strengthening social networks, and empowering the local economy. Community-based programs can reach marginalised groups, promote social inclusion, and strengthen community participation in development. Nonformal education should be viewed as a strategic pillar of community development. Policy synergy and multi-stakeholder collaboration are needed to create an inclusive and sustainable learning ecosystem.

Abstract

Inequality of access to education in Indonesia is still a major problem, especially for low-income people (MBR). The high dropout rate in this group reflects structural and economic barriers that hinder the sustainability of education. The government responded through education subsidies such as the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP), School Operational Assistance (BOS), and scholarships for poor families. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the program in reducing dropout rates and increasing graduation through  the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to literature and data for the past five years. The results show that the subsidy has reached around 3.8 million recipients, reduced the dropout rate by 42%, and increased graduation by 68%, with a budget of Rp4.2 trillion. Despite showing moderate efficiency, challenges remain, such as uneven distribution of funds and limited aid. The conclusion of this study is that education subsidies contribute significantly to increasing access and sustainability of education for MBR, but improvements are needed in governance and data collection.

Abstract

Mastering grammar is essential for English learners, particularly the accurate placement of modifiers, which is often overlooked in academic writing. This research investigates the types of misplaced modifiers found in the teaching practice blog posts written by SEA Teacher participants. Misplaced modifiers can disrupt clarity and change the intended meaning of a sentence, yet they are often overlooked in academic writing instruction. Referring to Fowler and Aaron’s (2012) classification, this research aims to identify and analyze seven types of misplaced modifiers. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher analyzed 30 narrative blog posts by SEA Teacher participants. The data were collected by identifying sentences that contained misplaced modifiers, then categorizing them based on their types. The analysis reveals that the most frequently occurring type is misplaced phrases and clauses (36.4%), followed by incorrect adverb placement (21.2%). These two types are dominant because they involve longer, more complex sentence structures where the intended meaning is often lost when modifiers are placed too far from the words they describe. Less frequent errors include squinting modifiers, limiting modifiers, and the incorrect order of adjectives. These findings indicate the need for more explicit grammar instruction to help pre-service teachers improve their syntactic accuracy in academic and reflective writing.

Abstract

Socioeconomic status (SES) is often assumed to influence students’ academic achievement, including reading proficiency. However, students from higher socioeconomic backgrounds may still struggle with reading performance. This study aimed to examine the correlation between SES and reading proficiency among sixth-semester students in the English Education Study Program at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. A quantitative correlational method was employed, using an SES questionnaire and a TOEFL-based reading proficiency test. The results showed that most participants came from middle-class families, yet their reading proficiency was generally low. Statistical analysis revealed no significant correlation between SES and reading proficiency (r = -0.18, p = 0.857). These findings suggest that SES alone may not adequately predict students’ reading performance, highlighting the importance of other factors such as reading motivation, metacognitive awareness, and academic support.

Abstract

This research examines the importance of character education as a key pillar in shaping students' personalities, particularly at the elementary school level, where there is still a gap between the values of the Pancasila Student Profile and disciplinary practices in the field. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile values in shaping the disciplined character of fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Kertanegara, Purbalingga. The method used was descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach, and data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The research results show that the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project, themed "Sustainable Lifestyle," (such as catfish and kale cultivation), effectively fosters discipline, although levels of discipline vary among students. These hands-on, hands-on activities foster responsibility and punctuality. In conclusion, the development of discipline is influenced by teacher role models, parental involvement, and consistent support from the school environment.

Abstract

This study explores how English pre-service teachers at Semarang State University develop and apply digital teaching media using the Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. In today’s digital learning environment, teachers are expected not only to master subject content but also to skillfully combine it with suitable teaching methods and digital tools. Based on the findings, the participants showed strong ability in using digital platforms such as Canva, Quizizz, Wordwall, and Google Classroom. They integrated these tools with their lesson plans to make learning more interactive, engaging, and student-centered. Although they faced challenges such as limited teaching time, unstable internet access, and a lack of school facilities they managed to adapt by modifying their teaching strategies and media use. These results confirm what suggested: that effective technology use in education requires a deep understanding of how content, pedagogy, and technology work together. This study highlights the importance of preparing future teachers with real-world experiences and practical digital skills to meet the demands of modern classrooms.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of AI-driven translation tools has significantly transformed English vocabulary acquisition, particularly in global communication. These tools offer innovative methods for enhancing language learning by providing instant translations, contextual examples, and user-friendly interfaces. However, despite their widespread adoption, the effectiveness of these tools in improving vocabulary acquisition remains underexplored. This study investigates the role of AI translation tools in facilitating vocabulary development among university students. By employing a mixed-method approach that combines quantitative analysis with qualitative insights, the research evaluates the impact of these tools on learners’ vocabulary retention and usage. The findings reveal that AI translation tools can effectively support vocabulary learning by offering immediate feedback and diverse contextual applications. However, challenges such as over-reliance on technology and inaccuracies in translation highlight the need for cautious implementation. The study concludes that AI-driven translation tools have the potential to enhance vocabulary acquisition and foster intercultural communication, provided they are integrated thoughtfully into educational practices. Further research is recommended to explore their long-term effects and optimize their role in language education.
