Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of parents in improving adaptive behavior as preparation for work among mildly intellectually disabled students in grade XII at SLB Amalia Bhakti Conggeang. In the context of vocational education, consistent parenting based on positive reinforcement has proven effective in improving the independence and life skills of children with intellectual disabilities. A qualitative approach with case studies was chosen to gain a deeper understanding of the role of parents in supporting their children at home and at school. The research findings indicate that parents who actively engage in daily activities, such as providing opportunities for independent practice and applying positive reinforcement, significantly contribute to the development of adaptive behavior in children. However, challenges faced by parents, such as limited knowledge, time, and resources, hinder the implementation of effective parenting strategies. Therefore, this study recommends the development of parent training programs that can improve their understanding of how to support the development of children with mild intellectual disabilities, as well as strengthen collaboration between parents, educators, and the community. With the right support, children with mild intellectual disabilities can develop the skills necessary to adapt to the world of work.

Abstract

This study looks into how students in the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Tanjungpura perceive QuillBot as a paraphrasing tool when composing paragraphs. The goals were to investigate how students’ rate QuillBot in terms of utility, ease of use, supportive conditions, and social influence, as well as to find the most important aspect influencing their acceptance of the technology. The study took a descriptive quantitative method and was guided by Venkatesh's Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). A trustworthy and validated online survey was used to gather data. The findings demonstrate that students' opinions of all UTAUT constructs were largely favourable. Students’ perceived QuillBot was simple to use, good at enhancing sentence structure and vocabulary, and useful for creating well-organized paragraphs. These findings imply that using AI-assisted writing tools such as QuillBot can aid academic writing development in English language instruction. Future research should compare QuillBot to other paraphrase platforms to determine its impact on long-term writing competency.

Abstract

SNBP is one of the entry points in state university entrance selection system which is very popular with students because selection for university entrance is carried out only based on based on the results of academic achievement tracking through report cards and students' academic and non-academic portfolios. MAN 1 Siak is one of the madrasas that registers its students through the SNBP entry. When SNBP registration opens, the role of guidance and counseling teachers is really needed to help students in choosing the right major. The aim of this research is to make it easier for guidance and counseling teachers to create a decision support system that can provide recommendations for major selection to students effectively and efficiently. The method used is the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method. AHP is a decision making method with a systems approach, where decision makers try to understand a system condition and help make predictions in making decisions. Using the AHP method, the priorities for selecting majors in higher education via the SNBP route are education(0.2912), economics(0.2447), computers(0.2168), law(0.2007), and medicine(0.0466).

Abstract

This study aims to develop a contextual early reading assessment instrument tailored for eighth-grade students with moderate intellectual disabilities at SLB ABC Miiroojuttaqwaa in Sumedang Regency. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive methods, the research involved non-participatory observations, interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), documentation studies, and validation by expert teachers. The results reveal that students demonstrate varying levels of competence in phonemic recognition, syllable decoding, and vocabulary comprehension but face difficulties with sentence construction and reading fluency. The assessment instrument was refined collaboratively through FGDs, covering core reading domains, and validated by external experts for operational clarity and usability. Key improvements include more concrete indicators, enhanced visual media, and implementation guidelines to standardise administration. The findings highlight the importance of authentic, adaptive assessments that align with cognitive and developmental characteristics of students with intellectual disabilities. This tool not only supports the development of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) but also provides a model for inclusive assessment practices. The study recommends broader institutional adoption, including integration into policy frameworks, professional development for teachers, and cross-school moderation, to enhance reliability and equity. The validated instrument holds promise for advancing literacy interventions and promoting meaningful participation in education for students with intellectual disabilities.

Abstract

Language and knowledge are fundamentally intertwined, shaping how individuals perceive, interpret, and express reality. This study investigates epistemic verbs as linguistic indicators of knowledge and belief within two distinct epistemological and cultural frameworks: English and Mandarin Chinese. By adopting a qualitative descriptive–comparative approach, grounded in functional linguistics and epistemic discourse analysis, this research explores how epistemic verbs reflect the ways speakers conceptualize truth, certainty, and cognition. The data were collected from authentic corpora—including dialogues, news articles, academic essays, and conversational transcripts—and analyzed through semantic, pragmatic, and cultural dimensions using triangulated methods. Findings reveal that English epistemic verbs (e.g., know, believe, think, guess) form a hierarchical and explicit epistemic system, emphasizing rational certainty, empirical evidence, and individual cognition, consistent with Western philosophical traditions. In contrast, Mandarin epistemic verbs (e.g., 知道 zhīdào, 认为 rènwéi, 觉得 juéde, 相信 xiāngxìn) display contextual, relational, and affective orientations, integrating emotion and social harmony in the expression of knowledge, reflecting an Eastern holistic worldview. Comparative analysis demonstrates that English expresses epistemic stance vertically, based on degrees of certainty, while Mandarin expresses it horizontally, emphasizing social context and relational appropriateness. These contrasts highlight deeper philosophical divides between Western rationalism and Eastern relational holism, suggesting that linguistic forms mirror epistemological ideologies. The study concludes that epistemic verbs are not mere grammatical categories but cognitive-cultural constructs that embody each society’s way of “knowing” and “believing.” Understanding these differences is vital for intercultural communication, as epistemic misalignment often leads to pragmatic misunderstanding between English and Mandarin speakers. This research contributes to the emerging field of cross-cultural epistemic linguistics, offering insights into how language, cognition, and culture collectively shape the human expression of knowledge.

Abstract

The background of this research departs from the problem of limited number of practical equipment, suboptimal maintenance, and budget limitations that have an impact on the smooth running of learning activities. This study aims to analyze the management and availability of practical equipment in the machining workshop of SMK Negeri 2 Palembang. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the management of practical equipment in the machining workshop has implemented a clear task sharing system between toolman and maintenance repair (MR) officers, so that the equipment can be used optimally. However, the amount of equipment available is not yet proportional to the number of students, so practice must be done alternately through scheduling. The conclusion of this study is that budget constraints, length of procurement process, and limited number of equipment are the main obstacles, but can be minimized through more effective usage and maintenance management strategies. This research is expected to be an input for schools in improving the effectiveness of workshop management and the provision of practical equipment to support the achievement of curriculum goals.
