Abstract: This research was to investigate the correlation of interest in listening to English songs and listening achievement to Semester - 3 Students of English Language Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tanjungpura University, in Academic Year 2015/2016. It was a correlation study. The research participants were 54 students. The data were collected by administering closed-ended questionnaires and multiple choice questions of listening comprehension test. Then, the data were calculated by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient formula. Based on the research finding, the r (correlation coefficient) value of the two variables was 0.769. The obtained t-value was higher than the value of t-table at 1% (0.01) level of significance with degree of freedom (df) = 52 (8.658 > 2.673). It finds out there is a significant correlation of interest in listening to English songs and listening achievement.   Keywords: correlation, interest, English Songs, listening achievement Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana korelasi ketertarikan mendengarkan lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris terhadap kemampuan mendengar mahasiswa semester 3 Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Tanjungpura, Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Abstract

AbstractThis research was aimed to design ANEMO; an animated explainer video as the supplementary materials of simple past tense in writing recount text. This developmental research was conducted to find out the performance gap in the learning process caused by the probability of the insufficient materials in the teaching sources. There were four phases of ADDIE instructional design applied namely Analyzing, Designing, Developing, and Evaluation. The ANEMO was created for about 20 minutes for the teaching material (introduction to recount text and simple past tense) and 15 minutes more for the simple past tense exercises. The animated video was completed by voice over and appropriate learning materials, so that, the learners would only need to watch, listen and follow the learning instructions. Last, the product was assessed by two validators according to 20 evaluation statements asking about three aspects of content appropriateness, instructional design, and the technical design of the product. The total score of the assessment rubric was 95% and 93.75% which categorized as very good. In sum, the product has been well-developed and has met both the teacher and students? need as supplementary materials to support the teaching of simple past tense in writing recount text. Keywords: Animated Video, Supplementary, Simple Past Tense, Recount Text.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using categories game in teaching vocabularies on writing descriptive text. This study was conducted on seventh grade students of SMPN 14 Pontianak Timur in academic year 2016/2017. The research used a pre experimental research with one group pretest and post test. The subject of this research was VII I. The research data was collected by a test. It was analyzed by effect size formula. The findings of research showed that the students achievement on vocabularies, particular vocabularies on writing descriptive text significantly improved by using categories game. The interval between the mean score of pretest and posttest is 15.59 . It means that the interval between pretest and posttest score showed the increase after treatment conducted. Moreover, these findings were computed by t-test formula, where the t-value in this research is 6.21, compared with percentage points of the t-distribution with one tail probability (α) 0.05 on 41 number degree of freedom is 1.682. It means the t-value is higher than the percentage point of the t-distribution. The effect size obtained is 0.86 which is categoried large. Thus, the use of categories game to teach vocabularies on writing descriptive text to the students VII grade of SMPN 14 Pontianak Timur was effective. Keywords: Vocabulary, Categories game, Descriptive Text
