Abstract

This study aims to improve the English speaking skills of 6th grade high school students at Wittaya Islamic School in Thailand through the application of a group podcast strategy. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which was carried out in two cycles. The problems encountered were the students' low English speaking skills due to limitations in constructing spoken sentences, low self-confidence, limited vocabulary, and psychological factors such as shyness and fear of making mistakes. The results showed a significant improvement in three main indicators: teacher activity increased from 68% (poor category) to 85% (excellent category), student activity increased from 60.73% (fair category) to 75% (good category), and student test scores increased dramatically from 52.12% (poor category) to 84.62% (excellent category). The most notable improvement occurred in test scores, with a difference of 32.5%. This study proves that the group podcast strategy is effective in improving students' English speaking skills because this strategy encourages collaboration, boosts confidence, expands vocabulary, and creates a meaningful and contextual learning environment

Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ perceptions of using podcasts as a medium for independent pronunciation learning and to identify the factors that support and hinder their use. The research employed a qualitative descriptive design involving English Language Education students at Tadulako University. The participants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that students generally have positive perceptions of podcasts for independent pronunciation learning. Podcasts are considered easy to use, flexible, and accessible anytime and anywhere, allowing students to practice pronunciation independently and repeatedly. Students also reported that podcasts help them become more familiar with native speakers’ pronunciation, intonation, and accents. However, despite these benefits, several challenges were identified, including the lack of direct practice, limited feedback, and uncertainty about pronunciation accuracy without lecturer guidance. Therefore, while podcasts are effective as a supporting medium for independent pronunciation learning, they should complement, rather than replace, formal classroom instruction. The study suggests that lecturers integrate podcasts into pronunciation teaching while providing guidance and feedback to optimize students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Child-Friendly Schools (CFS) at SMP Negeri 1 Semaka, Tanggamus Regency, with an emphasis on the role of the principal's policies, child-friendly learning, and student participation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, with the principal and teachers as key informants. The results show that the principal's policies play a central role in integrating the principles of CFS into school management, particularly in creating a safe, comfortable, and violence-free environment. Child-friendly learning is implemented through conducive classroom management, humanistic communication, and the application of positive discipline without violence. In addition, student participation is facilitated through open and inclusive policies, so that students have space to express opinions and be involved in school decision-making. However, this study also found a gap between the ideal concept of CFS and empirical practice, particularly related to differences in understanding among some school members and parents regarding positive discipline and the unequal courage of student participation. Overall, this study concludes that the success of SRA implementation is largely determined by the strength of the principal's policies, supported by child-friendly learning and a sustainable participatory culture. This research is expected to provide theoretical and practical contributions to the development of Child-Friendly School policies in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study addresses the issue of low student participation in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, which remains a persistent challenge in Indonesian secondary education. Although cooperative learning strategies have been widely promoted, there is limited research focusing on students’ active participation in junior high school EFL contexts, particularly in eastern Indonesia. This study aims to explore how the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) strategy enhances eighth-grade students’ active participation in English learning at SMP Negeri 7 Kupang and to examine students’ responses toward its implementation. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that TPS significantly improves students’ behavioural, cognitive, and emotional participation by fostering collaboration, confidence, and engagement. Students also demonstrated a positive perception of the strategy. Overall, Think-Pair-Share is an effective approach for promoting active participation in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation process of the Montessori sensorial method for improving pre-writing skills of students with mild intellectual disabilities in Grade III at SLB Negeri Simalungun. The study used a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were two students with mild intellectual disabilities. Data were collected through observation, prewriting skill tests, and documentation, and were analyzed qualitatively to describe the learning process and quantitatively to identify improvements in pre-writing skills across cycles. The findings indicate a gradual and significant improvement in students’ pre-writing skills from the initial condition to the end of Cycle II, as reflected in enhanced abilities to trace lines, thicken and imitate simple patterns, and demonstrate better fine motor coordination. In addition, students showed increased active engagement, focus, and self-confidence during the learning process. The novelty of this study lies in the specific application of the Montessori sensorial method utilizing kinetic sand as a tactile sensory medium in pre-writing instruction for students with mild intellectual disabilities in a special school context, contributing both theoretically and practically to the development of adaptive learning approaches in special education.

Abstract

The background of this research is that as Muslims, of course, we have a responsibility, namely to maintain and care for the Qur'an. One form of care is to memorize it. This study seeks to explain the implementation of learning at the Nurul Huda Islamic Boarding School with three main objectives, namely describing local content activities in the Islamic boarding school, tracing the methods used in the Tahfidz Qur'an program, and identifying factors that support and hinder the achievement of memorization of students. The approach used is qualitative so that researchers can understand the learning process more deeply through observation, interviews, and document review. The findings of the study show that local content activities are designed to form students into a generation that adheres to Islamic values based on the Qur'an and hadith. The Tahfidz Qur'an program at the Nurul Huda Islamic Boarding School applies several methods, such as the wahdah method, sima'i, repetition of each verse, and muraja'ah as a general strengthening of memorization. These methods help students strengthen memorization gradually and continuously.

Abstract

School administration personnel are an integral part of the education management system whose role is to ensure that school governance runs in an orderly, effective, and sustainable manner. However, in practice, the existence of administrative personnel often receives less attention than educators and tends to be seen as limited to carrying out technical tasks. This study aims to analyze the role of administrative personnel in improving the quality of educational services at SD Negeri 004 Palembang by focusing on aspects of the implementation of duties, responsibilities, competencies, and obstacles faced. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews with administrative staff, principals, and teachers, as well as documentation studies of school administrative archives. The results of the study show that although the number of administrative personnel is not ideal and the workload is relatively high, their contribution is very significant in data management, information services to school residents and parents, infrastructure management, and the preparation of institutional reports. The ability to master information technology and good internal coordination also improves service quality. Improving service quality can be done through the arrangement of task divisions, competency training, and strengthening the digital-based management system on an ongoing basis.
