Abstract

This community service activity aimed to strengthen the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Karanganyar Regency to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) for product marketing on e-commerce platforms. Thirty MSME representatives participated in training covering four competency domains: AI concept understanding, AI tool use, marketing content creation, and e-commerce product optimization. Learning outcomes were evaluated descriptively using pre-test and post-test mean scores on a 0–100 scale. The results showed improvement in all four domains. AI concept understanding increased from 50 to 80, equivalent to a 30-point gain and a 60.0% relative improvement. AI tool use increased from 55 to 70 (27.3%), marketing content creation from 50 to 82 (64.0%), and e-commerce product optimization from 53 to 81 (52.8%). Across the four indicators, the average score increased from 52.00 to 78.25, representing an absolute gain of 26.25 points and a 50.5% relative improvement. The highest post-test score and the largest relative improvement were observed in marketing content creation, while AI tool use showed the smallest relative gain. These descriptive findings indicate positive immediate learning outcomes and support the use of practice-oriented AI training to strengthen MSME digital marketing capabilities. Because only aggregate pre-test and post-test means were available, the results should not be interpreted as evidence of statistical significance or long-term business performance. Follow-up mentoring and outcome monitoring are recommended.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar levels resulting from impaired insulin production or function.(1) Although the prevalence of DM is more commonly reported in adults, the rise in obesity and unhealthy lifestyles among children puts them at risk of developing DM from an early age (2). Data from Indonesia show an upward trend in the incidence of diabetes among children, in line with global trends. Recent reports indicate that by 2025, the number of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (type 1 DM) in Indonesia will approach 2,000 cases, with a consistent increase in new cases each year since 2022. This situation reflects the increasing burden of diabetes among children and adolescents, which requires special attention within the healthcare system (3). Recent studies confirm that the rise in Type 1 DM cases among children in Indonesia is influenced not only by biological factors but also by access to healthcare services and public awareness of the early symptoms of diabetes in children (4). Tanah Bumbu Regency has a relatively high number of DM patients based on local health administrative data. The high prevalence of DM in the general population and the increasing number of participants in noncommunicable disease screenings indicate potential risks that may also affect the pediatric population (Tanbu Health Office, 2025). Based on interviews and observations conducted in Binawara Village, it was found that cases of diabetes mellitus (DM) in children are still largely not identified early, either by parents or healthcare workers. Interview results indicate that most parents do not yet understand the risk factors for DM in children—such as high sugar intake, lack of physical activity, and family history—so early symptoms are often dismissed as normal conditions. Field observations also reveal limitations in routine DM screening for children; this situation has the potential to cause delays in diagnosis and treatment, which could ultimately increase the risk of long-term complications. Therefore, more structured promotive and preventive efforts are needed through improved health education and strengthening the role of community health centers and community health workers in the early detection of diabetes in children.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of health-oriented technology education socialization programs on the higher education choices of SMA/SMK/SLB students under the Regional Branch Office 2 of the North Sumatra Provincial Education Office. A mixed-methods design was employed, integrating quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The research sample consisted of 342 Grade XI and XII students from 18 schools (10 SMA, 6 SMK, and 2 SLB) across Deli Serdang Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, and Tebing Tinggi City. Data were gathered through structured questionnaires, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and direct observation during socialization events. Quantitative analysis used logistic regression and chi-square tests, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Findings reveal that 67.8% of students experienced a significant shift in interest toward health technology study programs following socialization. The intensity of socialization exposure was statistically associated with students' decisions to pursue health technology-related degrees (OR = 3.47; 95% CI: 2.18–5.52; p < 0.001). Given the absence of a control group, this finding indicates an association rather than definitive causal evidence. Key contributing factors included the quality of socialization materials, relevance to local healthcare industry needs, and scholarship information availability. This study recommends strengthening technology-based socialization programs across all secondary education units to support the supply of technology-competent health workers in North Sumatra.

Abstract

The Belawan mangrove area in Medan City, Indonesia, possesses significant ecotourism potential yet remains underdeveloped due to inadequate physical infrastructure misaligned with green architecture principles and the minimal utilization of information technology for promotion and visitor management. This community service project aimed to revitalize the area through an integrated "smart eco-tourism" strategy combining sustainable facility design with digital marketing and technology-based visitor interpretation. Using a participatory action research approach involving 30 local management group members, the project implemented three main interventions: (1) collaborative green facility planning (elevated boardwalks, natural ventilation, and local eco-friendly materials), (2) digital promotion training (social media management, photography, and QR-code-based interpretive signage), and (3) institutional strengthening. Results showed significant improvements: participants' technical knowledge increased from a mean pre-test score of 54.2 to 81.6 (a 50.6% increase), social media engagement rose by 65%, and visitor numbers grew by 41.8% within three months post-intervention. The successful integration of green architecture and digital tools created a replicable, community-owned model that enhances ecological sustainability while providing tangible economic benefits. This smart eco-tourism framework offers practical guidance for revitalizing similar coastal mangrove destinations across North Sumatra and other developing coastal regions.

Abstract

The phenomenon of tidal flooding has become a recurring threat to coastal communities in Belawan Sub-district, Medan City, which forms part of the East Coast of North Sumatra—an area experiencing land subsidence and rising sea levels due to climate change. These conditions have led to damage to settlements, disruption to fishermen’s economic activities, and a decline in the environmental health of coastal communities. This community service initiative aims to empower the Belawan community through the implementation of two main approaches: amphibious construction as an adaptive architectural solution enabling floating dwellings to adjust to water level fluctuations; and an Internet of Things (IoT)-based mitigation system comprising water level monitoring sensors and an early warning system linked to a smartphone application. The implementation methods included a socialisation and vulnerability assessment phase, technical training on prototype-scale amphibious construction, installation of IoT devices, community mentoring, and an evaluation of the programme’s sustainability. The results of the activities demonstrate an increased understanding amongst the community of adaptive technologies based on local wisdom and appropriate technology, the construction of one prototype amphibious foundation unit at the home of an affected resident, and the functioning of a real-time tidal flood early warning system. It is hoped that this initiative will serve as a replicable model for the empowerment of coastal communities facing the threat of tidal flooding in other coastal areas of North Sumatra.

Abstract

Understanding psychological aspects is a strategic step to improve athletes' performance. However, in the process of athlete development, this psychological factor is often neglected. Therefore, knowledge regarding mental toughness needs to be provided to coaches. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to increase the knowledge of coaches at the Special Region of Yogyakarta Regional Training Center (Puslatda DIY) regarding the psychological aspects of athlete mental toughness, as well as equip them to apply it during the training process to strengthen the athletes' mental toughness. This activity used counseling and direct education methods through material presentations and interactive lectures attended by 46 Puslatda DIY coaches. The coaches' increase in knowledge was measured using a test instrument consisting of 10 items by comparing pre-test and post-test results. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in knowledge regarding aspects of mental toughness among the coaches. This proves that the direct counseling and education program successfully and effectively increased the coaches' understanding of the psychological aspects of mental toughness.

Abstract

The development of tourist villages in Indonesia has led to an increase in the number of homestays as community-based accommodations that contribute to the local economy. However, the use of single-use packaged amenities in homestays has the potential to increase plastic waste and is not yet fully aligned with the principles of sustainable tourism. This community service activity aims to develop innovative low-waste packaging designs for homestay amenities based on the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism issued by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The activity was carried out in Bantar Agung Tourism Village, Sindang Wangi District, Majalengka Regency, which has 120 homestays as well as natural and cultural tourism potential that has been developing since 2016. The implementation methods included observation, education on sustainable tourism and green hospitality concepts, eco-friendly packaging design workshops, and participatory-based assistance together with the tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) and homestay managers. The expected outcomes are prototypes of reusable or biodegradable amenity packaging, increased community understanding of environmentally friendly homestay management, and strengthening the image of a sustainable tourism village. This program is expected to reduce the use of single-use plastics, improve homestay service quality, and support environmental conservation and the sustainable competitiveness of the tourism village.
