Abstract

Eka Nurhidayat English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and EducationUniversity of Majalengkaekanurhidayat16@gmail.com  ABSTRACT Debate is one of the methods which can be applied in class activity, especially in speaking class. It can improve the speaking ability of students by making group in discussion material given. The advantage of this method is doing together in learning activity, and demands students to give the strong arguments and also defend them. The use of British parliamentary debate style can improve students speaking skills and also requires students to express ideas in English. The aim of the research is to find out whether using British Parliamentary debate style can improve students’ speaking skills. The writer uses Classroom Action Research. The aim of Classroom Action Research is to improve the educational context in which the research is being carried out by using new technique. The subject of the research is taken from students debating community of LP3I Course Center Kalitanjung Cirebon. In the end of the paper, the writer tries to analyze the data as the result from individual score, observation sheet, and interview. Besides that, the researcher observes students through some questioner. After those steps, finally the writer finds that the use of British parliamentary debate style can improve students’ speaking skills. Keywords: Speaking, Debate method, British parliamentary debate style

Abstract

This research aims to convey the development of English proficiency toward Asean community through Healthcare Language Program (HELP) for Nursing Students. The demand of Asean Community is the use of English, as the language of Asean Community. English become a tool for communicating and connecting with other people around Asean Countries. In the Asean community, there will be more developments in Indonesia. Starting from free trade, foreign companies, and also healthcare sector. Not only the case of trade in goods and services, but also in the traffic of people in the context of labor. As an international language, English is required to interact with the global community, especially in the face of the ASEAN Economic Community. In addition, the role of English is also used in writing article for international journal publication. In other case, English can be very helpful in term of searching source of science about nursing which mostly come from international journal. So, nursing students should be able to master English well. In fact most of them encounter problem with English especially concerning with speaking and writing. Those skills are very important for nusring students to face Asean community. They need some activity and program to enhance English proficiency. This study is an investigation of the English program held by STikes Mahardika Cirebon. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, the data is collected by using observation, interview, as well as documentation. Abstract

This study aimed to develop English supplementary materials to meet the needs of nursing students on English learning through Instructional Conversation (IC) method. This research was categorized into research and development. The materials were validated by two experts to come to the final product. This research conducted at the Nursing Study Program involving students of the second semester. The data collected from classroom and checklist observation, questionnaire, an interview.  Considering the data collected, the English textbooks available and used in the Nursing Study Program contains English language learning materials that are still common and less specific for students used in the nursing study program. Therefore, English supplementary materials through Instructional Conversation (IC) method should be developed by considering the needs of lecturers and students. English supplementary materials through the Instructional Conversation method were developed by considering several aspects.

Abstract

Pembejaran abad ke 21 harus memliki konsep multiliteracies yang mencakup pemahaman informasi bersifat komprehensif dan factual. Dalam kegiatan sosialisasi ini, ada keteribatan para santri dari jenjang sekolah dasar, menengah, dan perguruan tinggi di lingkungan Pondok Pesantren Raudlatul Mubtadi’in yang diberikan pemaparan terkait penggunaan platform dan media pembelajaran dalam matapelajaran bahasa Inggris. Hasil kegiatan sosialisasi ini adalah para santri nampak sangat bersemangat dalam mengikuti pengerjaan soal-soal bahasa Inggris secara dalam jaringan dengan menggunakan laptop atau ponsel-ponsel yang dimiliki oleh santri. Dan juga para santri mampu mengoperasikan atau menggunakan media ataupun platform pembejaran dalam jarring secara baik dan komprehensif. Sebagai contoh santri dapat membedakan berita factual dan berita Hoax yang mana itu mengindikasikan bahwa santri dapat memahami informasi dengan bijak dan sesuai fakta. Konsep multiliterasi dapat diimplementasikan dalam bentuk pengintegrasian peran digital teknologi dengan materi yang terkait dan berkontribusi pada peningkatan wawasan baru dalam pemanafaatan sosial media dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris atau bisa dikatakan mahasiswa diarahkan menjadi pribadi yang multiliterate yang mana mahasiswa mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang bernuansa multiliterasi pada abad ke 21 ini.

Abstract

Salah satu masalah sosial saat ini adalah masalah pergaulan bebas dan bijak bermedsos yang terjadi pada kalangan remaja. Ada dua dampak yang ditimbulkan dari perilaku pergaulan bebas dan bijak bermedos di kalangan remaja yaitu kenakalan remaja dan penggunaan media sosial. Seperti kita ketahui bahwa banyak dampak buruk dari kenakalan remaja dan cenderung bersifat negatif seperti halnya, pergaulan bebas yang menimbulkan seks bebas dapat berakibat fatal bagi kesehatan. Seks bebas dapat terjadi karena pengaruh dari lingkungan dan salah pilihnya seseorang terhadap lingkungan tempatnya bergaul. Selain itu juga penggunaan media sosial yang harus kita lakukan adalah bagaiamana cara menggunakan media sosaial secara bijak. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan dengan memberikan penyuluhan tentang bahaya pergaulan bebas dan bijak media sosial di kalangan remaja, dan diharapkan terjadinya perubahan pengetahuan dan perilaku terhadap bahaya pergaulan bebas dan bijak media sosial di kalangan remaja. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dua kali yaitu pertama dengan memberikan penyuluhan tentang bahaya pergaulan bebas di kalangan remaja, kedua dengan cara bijak menggunakan media sosial dalam kehiduan sehari-hari, agar terbentengi hal-hal yang negatif. Hasil dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pengetahuan dan respon yang positif bagi para remaja.

Abstract

Desa Sindanghaji terletak di kabupaten Majalengka dengan kualitas sumber daya manusia yang masih menjadi perhatian kepada Masyarakat yang berupaya untuk meningkatkan motivasi pendidikan melalui membaca. Kampung Literasi merupakan kawasan kampung yang digunakan untuk mewujudkan masyarakat yang memiliki pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang luas. Kegiatan pengembangan Kampung Literasi di Desa Sindanghaji Kabupaten Majalengka melakukan serangkaian sosialisasi dan pengembangan 6 literasi dasar bagi masyarakat umum dengan mengambangkan pusat belajar dan taman baca masyarakat. Upaya penting yang dilakukan sebagai langkah awal untuk membangun Kampung Literasi di Desa Sindanghaji secara fisik adalah membangun pojok baca disetiap dusun untuk mendekatkan bahan bacaan kepada masyarakat. Tulisan ini akan menggambarkan tentang usaha yang dilakukan dalam membangun Kampung Literasi tersebut. Dalam kegiatan ini, masyarakat diberikan sosialisasi tentang Kampung Literasi dalam meningkatkan minat baca masyarakat di Taman Baca Masyarakat Nurul Huda Desa Sindanghaji Kecamatan Palasah Majalengka. Metode pelaksanaan program ini menggunakan pendekatan diskusi dan pelatihan secara luring dengan memperhatikan protokol kesehatan. Dengan program ini, diharapkan dengan kegiatan ini kampung literasi memiliki motivasi berpendidikan tinggi dan memiliki akses kepada buku dan sumber pengetahuan lainnya untuk mewujudkan masyarakat yang memiliki minat dan budaya baca.

Abstract

The demand of Asean Community is the use of English, as the language of Asean Community. English become a tool for communicating and connecting with other people around Asean Countries. This paper analyses the result of survey on the student of English Department of Majalengka University. This survey focused on their perspective on the demand of English in facing Asean Economic Community (AEC). The aims of this study are to reveal (1) What should students prepare to face Asean Economic Community (AEC)?; (2) what are students’ perspective on the demand of English in facing AEC?. This study is an investigation of the students’ perspective on the demand of english in facing AEC. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, the data is collected by using observation, interview, as well as documentation. Abstract

This study aims to reveal the advantages and barriers of TED Talks as medium to learn English Voice and Accents. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, the data is collected by using observation, interview, as well as documentation. The descriptive qualitative method covers the advantages and barriers of TED Talks as medium to learn English Voice and Accents. The results of this study indicated that the students’ ability in analyzing English voice and accents were improved. They enable to differentiate several of English accents. Moreover, they also have better understanding related to the message conveyed from the video they watched. Besides, the students gave positive responses to the implementation of TED Talks video. Most of them mentioned that TED Talks video helps them to comprehend English voice and accents better. Thus, TED talks prove to be a useful material for English teaching as a foreign language considering that they assemble many characteristics that catch students’ attention and get them related with the language spoken in actual contexts.

Abstract

 Abstract: (TPI) Teacher Professional Identity defined as self-images or self-interpretation related to people's internal systems. While the teacher constructing professional identity, it was provided a good teacher quality especially in teacher-students relationship. The teaching internship program is the program that the students implemented real teaching situations. Some of pre-service English teachers had a lack of experience in teaching, they had a lack to build positive relationships with the students as well as the interpersonal identity, and they had a lack of awareness to build their identity. The study aimed to reveal (1) how preservice English teachers build teachers-students relationship as the interpersonal identity; (2) how pre-service English teacher reflective self-evaluations during teaching; (3) how university improve students’ awareness of their identity. The study utilized qualitative research with narrative design, the instruments used observations, interviews and questionnaires. The researcher used purposive sampling with five participants to collect data. The researcher found some pre-service English teacher had positive and negative relationship as well as desirable and undesirable interpersonal identity. Pre-service English teacher beliefs, teachers’ roles, and implemented of ICT were discussed in result. After pre-service English teachers finished the internship program, they had realized to evaluate their selves as a whole become future teachers.Keywords: Pre-service English Teachers, Teaching Internship, Teacher Professional Identity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the pre-service English teacher's strategy for enhancing students' communication skills in the EFL classroom, the obstacles students encountered when the teacher implemented strategies for enhancing students' communication skills in the EFL classroom, and the implications for students when the teacher implemented strategies for enhancing students' communication skills in the EFL classroom. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, with six students and two teachers serving as research participants. The data collection technique used in this study is interviewing. The findings from the three research questions indicate that pre-service English teachers use role playing, presentation, group work, and English debate to improve their communication skills. Students face difficulties when their teacher uses these strategies because they lack confidence when speaking, lack of vocabulary mastery, their environment is non-English speaking, and their learning style is non-English speaking. Students perceive the teacher as a facilitator who assists them in improving their communication skills in the EFL class, and thus the teacher's implication is positive in this case.
