Abstract

−This program was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Laut Tengah, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan. The partner school faced challenges related to students’ limited awareness of environmental sanitation and waste management within the school environment. Preliminary observations indicated that various types of non-organic waste such as plastic, cardboard, straws, and food packaging were still found scattered in several areas of the school. This condition suggested that students’ understanding of environmental sanitation and waste management needed to be strengthened through participatory educational activities. The purpose of this community service program was to enhance students’ understanding of environmental sanitation and to provide direct learning experiences through creative recycling activities using non-organic waste materials. The activity employed an educational and participatory project-based approach involving 54 students from grades VII and VIII. The program was implemented through several stages, including the delivery of educational materials on environmental sanitation, interactive discussions, an evaluation quiz, and practical activities involving the reuse of non-organic waste to produce simple handicrafts. The results showed that most students were able to understand the material presented, as indicated by quiz results with correct response rates ranging from 74 percent to 100 percent. In addition, the recycling practice encouraged students to recognize that waste materials could be reused and transformed into useful products. The program not only improved students’ initial understanding of environmental sanitation but also provided valuable learning experiences for university students who served as facilitators in the activity. Overall, the program contributed to raising environmental awareness among students and supported the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted within the Ngawi Regency Government with the aim of improving the understanding and competency of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) regarding civil servant competency development. The main challenge faced by the partners was the PPPK's limited understanding of policies, mechanisms, and access to competency development programs, which could potentially hinder the optimization of performance and the quality of public services. The implementation method employed an educational-participatory approach through preparation, outreach, mentoring, and evaluation. The activity was conducted in a hybrid format (online and offline) involving hundreds of participants, utilizing the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform as a digital-based learning medium. The results of the activity demonstrated an increased understanding of civil servant management, the role and function of PPPK, and the implementation mechanisms for MOOC-based competency development. Furthermore, this activity successfully created a shared understanding of the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of PPPK within government organizations. Participants' active participation in discussions demonstrated increased awareness and motivation to continuously develop their competencies. The use of digital learning technology also encouraged increased digital literacy among civil servants, a crucial requirement in the era of bureaucratic transformation. Overall, this outreach activity significantly contributed to improving the capacity, professionalism, and commitment of PPPK (Community Empowerment and Child Protection) personnel in supporting the improvement of public service quality and good governance. Therefore, this activity can serve as a model for developing adaptive, sustainable, and relevant civil servant competencies to meet the needs of local government organizations..

Abstract

This community service program aimed to address the gap between conceptual knowledge and practical implementation ability of elementary school (SD) teachers in coding and artificial intelligence (AI) instruction in Medan City and Deli Serdang Regency. Initial needs analysis revealed that while many teachers possessed basic familiarity with coding and AI terminology, the majority had not independently designed lesson plans incorporating coding activities nor systematically used coding platforms in classroom settings. Partner schools also faced uneven device availability and internet connectivity, alongside weak post-training support structures that hindered the transfer of learning to classroom practice. The intervention applied the IN-ON-IN model with contextual coaching: In Service Training 1 (conceptual and practical workshops using Scratch 3.0, Code.org, and Teachable Machine), On-the-Job Training (classroom implementation with field coaching and telementoring), and In Service Training 2 (reflection and consolidation). The program involved 175 elementary school teachers from both regions, implemented October 2025 through February 2026. Evaluation used an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design: pretest–posttest, classroom observation rubrics, learning artifact analysis, and in-depth interviews and focus groups. Results showed knowledge score improvement from 81% to 95% with reduced standard deviation (3.11 to 1.09), alongside qualitative findings confirming gains in lesson plan design competency and project-based coding instruction for the majority of participants. Persistent barriers included limited devices, intermittent internet access, and time constraints for lesson planning. Recommendations emphasize low-resource module development, expansion of telementoring, and cross-stakeholder collaboration to strengthen school infrastructure.

Abstract

Village potential-based social entrepreneurship through Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) represents a social business model that optimizes natural resources, cultural assets, and community capacities to address socio-economic issues while increasing Village Original Revenue (PADes). This community service activity was conducted in Muara Tembesi Subdistrict, Batanghari Regency, Jambi, Indonesia. The study aims to analyze the role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in village development and improving community welfare through a social entrepreneurship approach. There are 15 actively operating BUMDes distributed across 12 villages in Muara Tembesi, engaging in various types of business activities. Although these enterprises have achieved progress in managing their business units, they still face several challenges related to social entrepreneurship, including a lack of innovation in the creative economy for resource management, inadequate mapping of village potential, suboptimal utilization of village websites, and limited effectiveness in marketing and promotional channels. Based on these issues, the service team conducted field observations and provided technical assistance to BUMDes managers, carried out village potential mapping, and analyzed appropriate strategies for developing business units and creative economic activities within rural communities. The results of the mapping indicate that each village possesses distinct potentials; however, natural resource outputs are still predominantly concentrated in the agricultural and plantation sectors. Several strategies were proposed to address the challenges faced by BUMDes, including enhancing understanding of the importance of BUMDes for village development, providing training and mentoring in social entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprise management, increasing community awareness of village potential, and encouraging subdistrict and village officials to utilize BUMDes operational funds more effectively.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve students’ competencies in the installation and configuration of operating systems through a practice-based approach at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jambi, involving 25 participants. The problem faced by the participants is the low level of practical skills in independently performing operating system installation and configuration, caused by the dominance of theoretical learning and the lack of direct practical experience. Therefore, a learning approach that integrates theoretical and practical aspects in a balanced manner is required. The method used in this activity is hands-on training combined with direct mentoring through the stages of preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. During the implementation stage, participants were provided with basic materials, demonstrations, and direct practice under the guidance of the implementation team. Evaluation was carried out by comparing pre-test and post-test results as well as observing participants’ skills during the activity. The results show a significant improvement in students’ competencies, indicated by the transition from conceptual understanding to the ability to independently perform installation and configuration of operating systems. In addition, participants demonstrated improvement in basic troubleshooting skills, learning engagement, and confidence during practice. This activity produced outputs in the form of improved technical skills relevant to industry needs and the development of independent problem-solving abilities among students. Therefore, practice-based training methods are proven to be effective in improving student competencies in the field of information technology and have the potential to be further developed in advanced training programs.
