Abstract

Stunting is a condition of child growth failure with height measurement indicators caused by chronic nutritional problems. One of the traditions that still exists in Madura, especially in Pamekasan Regency, is the traditional settlement of tanean lanjhang and also the tradition of child marriage. This study was conducted to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the incidence of stunting in tanean lanjhang families. The sample of this study included children who were categorized as stunted in 5 hamlets in Gugul village, Tlanakan sub-district, Pamekasan Regency, with a total sample of 51 people with data collection techniques using interviews and measurements. Determination of informants using cluster sampling method, namely several mothers who have stunted toddlers and also the village midwife. The results showed that boys who were categorized as stunted and lived in tanean lanjhang were 11 out of 22, while girls who were categorized as stunted and lived in tanean lanjhang were 14 out of 22 children. Tanean lanjhang as a settlement tradition in Madura affects the parenting of children or grandchildren. Keywords: stunting, tanean lanjhang, child marriage. There is no significant difference between those who live in tanean lanjhang and those who do not. The daily expenditure factor is not too different because the majority of expenditures are around Rp. 50,000 / day. Then, the parenting factor affects the incidence of stunting, because of the difference between less parenting and good parenting on the incidence of stunting. There is a difference in the provision of complementary food for children between those who live in tanean lanjhang and those who do not, the provision of complementary food for children living in tanean lanjhang is mostly at the age of under 6 months, so these results can affect the incidence of stunting in children.

Abstract

Abstract

The evolution of the Korean music industry, or K-Pop, has now become a global phenomenon. K-Pop hastranscended boundaries, not only as a genre of music but also as a medium capable of conveying messages andcritiques on societal issues. (G)I-DLE’s 2022 song “Nxde” stands out in this regard, addressing body image andchallenging stereotypes related to women’s representation. This study investigates how “Nxde” deconstructs bodyimage stereotypes and critiques the objectification of women within K-Pop and broader media cultures. UsingCharles Morris's semiotic analysis, this research examines syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic aspects of the song'slyrics and imagery, positioning "nude" as a symbol of self-authenticity that opposes superficial standards oftenimposed on female idols. Findings indicate that “Nxde” aims to empower women by redefining nudity as anexpression of authenticity. As seen in society, the meaning of nudity is often only considered as sexualized andinappropriate norms. While this also raises questions about the potential contradictions between feminist messagesthat may still conform to patriarchal standards. In conclusion, “Nxde” exemplifies K-Pop's dual role as both aplatform for progressive social commentary and a potential reinforcer of traditional beauty norms. The studysuggests that songs like “Nxde” can stimulate discourse on body image and foster more nuanced representations ofwomen. However, the findings also underscore the complexities of using provocative imagery to convey messagesof empowerment, highlighting the need for further research into media’s influence on gender perceptions.

Abstract

The pattern of facial aging helps put the perception of age into face approximation from the skull, making the facemore recognizable to the next of kin. The objective of this study is to determine the facial aging pattern of Javanesepeople in Indonesia. This study utilized the descriptive quantitative method to identify the highest frequency of thefacial aging pattern variables according to its prominence (0 = Not visible; 1 = Slightly visible; and 2 = Clearlyvisible). This study involved 50 male and 50 female samples of the Javanese population. Each sexed samples weredivided into two age-based groups: 40-44 and 45-49. The wrinkles on males and females aged 40-44 are mostlyslightly or not visible. In the 45-49 age group, the wrinkles are visible on the forehead, eyes, and cheeks. Sexdifferences are found in the forehead and cheek grooves, with males having deeper wrinkles. Premature aging of themale samples might be caused by longer working hours and heavier smoking habits. Aside from sex and gender, ancestry also contributes to a unique aging pattern of the Javanese, differentiating them from other populations. Thecomplex interaction between both sociocultural and biological factors is significant in forming a certain pattern offacial skin aging in different populations and sexes. Aside from its theoretical contribution to studies on humanbiological variations, this study can be referenced to depict more accurate and appropriate facial features in forensiccases that require facial approximations, especially those involving the Javanese people and the general Indonesianpopulation.

Abstract

In conflicts and struggles, women are both actively involved and affected, as discussed in various studies. However, research on the lives of women farmers in land conflicts in Pakel village, Banyuwangi Regency, is still limited. Thisstudy aims to describe the lives of women farmers in land conflicts that occur in Pakel village, BanyuwangiRegency. Pakel Village was chosen as the research location because the women had been abandoned by the men toavoid police arrest during a land conflict, leaving them to survive on their own. This qualitative research approachuses ethnographic methods with ecofeminism theory from Vandana Shiva. Primary data was collected throughparticipant observation, informal interviews, and in-depth interviews. The technique of determining informants inthis study used snowball sampling with a total of five female informants to be interviewed in depth. The resultsshowed that women farmers in Pakel village, Banyuwangi Regency, played an active role in the struggle. From theirdual roles as heads of households and housewives in the pre-land reclamation period to their active participation androles in various aspects of their daily activities after the land reclamation—such as farming, cooking, caring forchildren and/or grandchildren, istighosah, mediating conflicts, participating in night patrols, and fighting back. Theviolence in this land conflict also had a traumatic impact on one of the women farmers, so psychological serviceswere provided. Further research is needed to better understand the role of women in land conflicts in Pakel village,Banyuwangi Regency, with different themes and from various disciplines.

Abstract

This study explores how Minangkabau perantauan (migrant) communities in Bekasi, West Java, reinterpret the traditional circulating connubium, a system of marital alliances between matrilineal clans, through adaptive practices such as the Bajapuik dowry tradition and intra-group clans’ marriage. Using a focused ethnographic approach, we conducted a series of preliminary, informant identification, and data collection through observation and in-depth interviews with members of the Pariaman community. While classical structural anthropology models frame the Minangkabau kinship through ideally exogamous marriage rules, we document how urban migrants strategically modify these norms to sustain matrilineal identity. Ethnographic data reveal that prohibited unions (e.g., Koto-Piliang marriages) and flexible Bajapuik payments reflect what we call the flexibility of connubium: a dynamic process wherein adat (custom) persists through selective adaptation rather than cultural erosion. Theoretically, we extend Sahlins’ (2013) notion of “mutuality of being” to argue that these practices embed migrants into shared existential projects, transcending geographic displacement. Our findings challenge the assumptions that urbanization erodes tradition, showing instead how kinship evolves through sasamo awak (“among our own”) alliances that prioritize clan solidarity over classical exogamy.
