Abstract

Biological science that is taught in most learning institutions has been secular in nature. Almost all of the biological processes, theories and principles are taught without referring to Islamic concept. The biological Science teachers need to apply and integrate the Islamic context in teaching biology in order that biological teaching in the university will be accepted under Islamic view, and biological teaching of Islam becomes part of the curriculum. This study aimed to describe the Islamic concept of teaching biology in Mindanao State University, Sulu, Philippines. This study is an observational descriptive study. The respondents were the biology teachers and students and other faculty members of Mindanao State University, Sulu, where this study was conducted. A set of questionnaires were the research data gathering instruments. The questionnaire was composed of three major parts: relevance of Qur’anic verses and biological concept, integration of Islamic context in the curriculum and awareness and perception toward integration of Islamic concept. The results stated most of the respondents are aware and have agreed on the relevance of biological and Islamic concepts. Therefore, integration of Islamic concept in teaching biology is necessary and the verses must be cited for recasting the biological concepts, theories and principles to avoid misconception on Islamic and biological science concepts.

Abstract

Academic is usually represented by the student delaying or postponing assignments resulting in late submissions and coupled with a general reduction in study time and inadequate preparation for examinations. This study aimed to describe the relationship of procrastination to academic performance in Education students of Mindanao State University, Sulu, Philippines. This study was a descriptive observational study and was conducted on 2nd year College of Education students, Mindanao State University, Sulu, Philippines. Sampling is carried out by purposive sampling. This research adopted the questionnaire academic procrastination Questionnaire (APQ). The researcher also asked the students to indicate their midterm grade in GEC 104 (Mathematics in the Modern World) in the questionnaire. The results of the study show the participants' responses on the scale of academic procrastination ranged from (3.71 - 2.02) with the highest for the item “I finish my duties in GEC 104 before the deadline”, whereas the lowest was for the item "I stop studying early in order to do more enjoyable things”. In conclusion, there is no relationship between procrastination behavior and academic performance in students at the College of Education, Mindanao State University, Sulu, Philippines.

Abstract

This study investigated the perception on Multiple Choice Questions: Its challenges and implications among Grade 12 Senior High Students of Mindanao State University-Sulu. Descriptive survey method was used in this study. Random sampling was used to select 100 students, 50 from GAS strand and 50 from STEM strand Grade 12 Senior high school students. The researcher prepared a survey questionnaire to obtain the necessary data. Mean was used to analyze the perceived challenges and implication while an independent T-test sample was used to test the hypotheses at alpha level of 0.05.The following were the highlight of the study: Multiple Choice Questions is a test format only used as an assessment tool during their Quarterly Examinations and it was revealed that MCQ is challenging foremost due to the need to answer critically under time pressure. Consequently, they need to manage their time in order to answer every subject. The challenge of MCQ also lies in the difficulty of the subject Also, the result revealed the implications of MCQ tends to urge students to answer each subject at limited time pressure students that they experience test anxiety. Meanwhile, there is a need to look into the level of difficulty of the subject matter which requires student rigorous preparation before exam. More so, MCQ develop student’s analysis on problem solving which provides them a real time experience of taking major exams and develop time management in studying and strategies in answering as it encourages them to answer with persistence and resilience. The study recommended that the school administration should encourage the applicability of this test format to other colleges in the institution that require licensure examination, Setting programs and intervention for the improvements of this endeavour and Creating more research studies.

Abstract

Chat Dokter Online is a digital health platform developed by CV Cattleya Consultation Center based in Palembang. This digital health platform serves general public health consultations regarding health problems both in the city of Palembang and from outside the city of Palembang. This application is expected to be able to provide optimal services and a broad reach for users and especially patients who are self-isolating COVID-19 in Palembang City. The implementation of this community service activity is carried out through the stages of observation, interviews, application prototype development, application testing, application utilization, and monitoring application utilization. Chat Dokter Online provides massive health services and easy access for patients exposed to COVID 19 to determine the clinical degree of COVID-19, complaints felt by patients and to determine when to finish self-isolation. In addition, this application helps the public to get valid health information directly from doctors and experts.

Abstract

Indonesia is the second largest biodiversity-rich country in the world. Abundant biodiversity makes Indonesia rich in the potential of plants to be used as a variety of flavorful vegetables, dried fruit, medicine, and medicinal plants packaged in the form of herbs. Freedia is the flagship product of this SME, which is downstream from the innovative products of Rachmat Hidayat and the team. Freedia is an herb that is processed as a brewed drink to overcome diabetes mellitus disorder. The implementation of this activity uses methods of observation, interview, design, manufacturing, trial, application, and monitoring. Based on the results of the application of extraction machines in SME Hippocrates Medika, it can be concluded that the existence of these machines greatly supports the production process of freedia herbs three times more than before.

Abstract

Nutrition and health problems are problems in Indonesia. These nutritional and health problems will affect the health of infants and toddlers. This community service program is expected to increase public knowledge and insight regarding the importance of nutrition, immunization, and stimulation in the first 1000 days of life, reduce malnutrition rates in toddlers and fulfill health facilities and infrastructure in Barugbug Village. The community service program was carried out for 5 months. The series of activities carried out in this program include counseling, mobile integrated services post (posyandu), pre-development screening questionnaire (KPSP), nutrition consultation, the direct practice of child stimulation, advocacy, and training of trainees (TOT). The results of the implementation of this program are an increase in public knowledge. A reduction in under-nutrition in children under five can be measured by conducting mobile Posyandu and monitoring nutritional status, increasing the intelligence of multiple children by conducting the pre-screening development questionnaire (KPSP), and practicing directly stimulating children, improving health status through nutrition consultations.

Abstract

Spices have been widely developed for herbal products because people believe that the product is safe without any side effects that are harmful to the health of the body. Herbal products are made from natural ingredients of plants or plants without a mixture of chemicals. One of the herbal product businesses in Palembang is SME Hippocrates Medika. SME Hippocrates Medika was established in 2019 as a communal partnership. Freedia is the mainstay product of this SME, which is downstream from the innovative products of Rachmat Hidayat and the team. Freedia is an herb that is processed as a brewed drink to overcome diabetes mellitus disorder. In an effort to improve the quality of Freedia products, efforts are made to carry out a capsulation process for the extract so that the discomfort of freedia extract can be minimized to the maximum. The application of capsulation technology greatly helps improve the quality of freedia herbal products. Where consumers feel very comfortable in the consumption of freedia herbs because there is no need to bother boiling herbs, and do not need to feel bitter when consuming herbs.

Abstract

Herbal medicine is growing quite rapidly, especially in every area that has traditional medicine using natural ingredients that are believed to treat disease. In addition, the use of herbal medicines is believed to have fewer side effects compared to conventional medicine. WHO also recommends the use of traditional and herbal medicines in efforts to maintain health, as well as prevent and treat diseases ranging from mild to chronic diseases. Based on the various problems faced, the purpose of implementing community service is to increase public knowledge and understanding of medicinal plants, independent health screening, and self-medication, and the role of supplements (vitamins and herbs) in health care and disease prevention efforts.
