Abstract

This study examines mosque-based religious moderation da‘wah grounded in fiqh al-masjid as a model for mitigating socio religious conflict at the grassroots level in Mojokerto Regency, Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving mosque administrators (takmir), religious leaders, officials of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), and representatives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings reveal that religious moderation is operationalized through interconnected dimensions, including humanity (insaniyah), public benefit (maslahah), justice (‘adliyyah), balance (mubādalah), constitutional compliance (dusturiyah), national commitment (mu‘āhadah waṭaniyah), tolerance (tasāmuḥ), anti violence, and respect for local tradition (‘urfiyah). These dimensions are manifested in sermon narratives, participatory mosque governance, inclusive spatial arrangements, humanitarian and economic empowerment programs, and culturally sensitive practices. Analytically, the study demonstrates that moderation da‘wah becomes effective when ethical principles are institutionalized through clear policies, sermon guidelines, and conflict resolution mechanisms rather than remaining at the level of normative discourse. The study contributes theoretically by integrating religious moderation, mosque jurisprudence, and conflict studies into a coherent analytical framework, and practically by offering a model that can be adopted by mosque institutions and policymakers to strengthen social cohesion, prevent radicalism, and promote peaceful coexistence in plural societies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Majelis Taklim Darusshofa, an Islamic da'wah group, carries out da'wah, the methods they use, and how they help bring about social change in the city of Medan. As an Islamic da'wah institution operating in an urban environment, Majelis Taklim Darusshofa faces urban dynamics characterized by high population mobility, socio-cultural diversity, and the increasing use of digital technology. This study uses qualitative and descriptive methods, with data collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with administrators and congregants, and documentation of activities taking place at the majelis taklim. The research findings show that Majelis Taklim Darusshofa uses flexible da'wah methods, such as the use of digital media, relevant religious guidance according to the needs of city residents, and strengthening community solidarity in response to the changes brought about by modern urban life. Their da'wah not only spreads Islamic values but also plays a role in shaping the religious character of the city's residents, strengthening social resilience, and directing behavioral changes in a more positive direction. In short, the Majelis Taklim Darusshofa has a strategic function in maintaining the continuity of religious life while also serving as a space for social transformation amidst urban change in Medan.

Abstract

The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to climate change are multidimensional issues that impact all aspects of society, including public health and human rights. To understand how a group views the issue of climate action, it is necessary to identify the opinions they express to develop appropriate climate action strategies with direct community involvement. This study aims to capture public discussions, especially from young people, regarding climate action on Twitter. The data used in this study were collected from Twitter social media tweets using an Application Programming Interface (API) provided by Twitter developers. Through scraping techniques or data collection stages, this study used Orange Data Mining software to collect tweet data about climate action from July 14-21, 2022. The results of study revealed that there are four issues discussed by the younger generation regarding climate action on Twitter including: the core issues about climate change and global warming, urgency on climate action, attention to the causes and consequences, and responsibility and solutions to climate change through the climate action movement. Sentiment analysis showed that 74.42% (6,716 tweets) expressed positive sentiment toward climate action, while 25.58% (2,308 tweets) expressed negative sentiment. The implication of this research for framing theory is that the dominant frame in public discourse can influence policy acceptance and collective action. Policymakers and communicators can strategically reinforce constructive frames for young people, such as economic opportunity, equity, and innovation, to broaden youth engagement while reducing resistance to the impacts of climate change. As the largest Muslim country, the results of this study provide an important contribution to the internal dynamics of religious environmental activism among the younger generation in responding to the environmental and climate crisis.

Abstract

This study examines the rhetorical construction of religious moderation in the Log In program on Deddy Corbuzier’s YouTube channel. Amidst the polarization of digital religion, this research analyzes how Islamic values are framed to appeal to diverse audiences. Using a qualitative design that combines virtual ethnography and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the researcher observed and transcribed 30 episodes of the program. The analysis applies Aristotelian rhetorical theory (ethos, pathos, and logos) to explore how credibility, emotional appeal, and logical argumentation are articulated through language style, humor, and narrative strategies. The findings reveal that Habib Husein integrates these rhetorical elements in a balanced manner, producing religious messages that are rational, engaging, and socially relevant. His rhetoric reflects an adaptive style that aligns with the interactive and monetized nature of YouTube. Beyond descriptive insights, this study contributes theoretically by demonstrating how Aristotelian rhetoric operates within the political economy of digital media, where religious messages function simultaneously as spiritual guidance and commodified content.

Abstract

The transition from online to face-to-face learning in the post-pandemic era requires significant psychological adjustment for students. This study investigates the impact of Family Communication and Spiritual Quotient (SQ) on the Self-Efficacy of students at Islamic Junior High Schools (Madrasah) in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative approach with a correlational design, data were collected from 66 ninth-grade students selected through purposive sampling to represent the post-pandemic cohort. Validated questionnaires were used as instruments, and data were analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression. The results demonstrate that Family Communication (p=0.001) and Spiritual Quotient (p=0.015) significantly influence student self-efficacy, both partially and simultaneously. Notably, the regression model reveals that these variables collectively contribute 65% to students' academic confidence, indicating a strong predictive power. These findings suggest that the integration of open family communication and high spiritual intelligence serves as a critical psychological buffer against academic anxiety. This study implies that Islamic education stakeholders should prioritize spiritual-based parenting and communication strategies to enhance students' resilience and adaptability in the educational recovery era.

Abstract

This article discusses the dynamics of the Al-Hasanah Islamic Religious Learning Council (Majelis ta’lim Al-Hasanah) as a religious learning space that plays a vital role in fostering social change among mothers. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research examines the activity patterns, social interactions, and the impact of the council on increasing religious knowledge, forming moral values, and strengthening community solidarity. The study results indicate that the Al-Hasanah Islamic Religious Learning Council (Majelis ta’lim Al-Hasanah) functions not only as a means of religious instruction but also as a forum for empowerment that influences the mothers' thinking, attitudes, and social behavior. The resulting social change is evident in the increased participation of women in religious activities, the formation of stronger social networks, and the emergence of a collective awareness to develop more religious and harmonious lifestyles. Thus, the Islamic Religious Learning Council (Majelis ta’lim) plays a strategic role not only in shaping religious identity and strengthening social cohesion at the community level, but also in illustrating women’s religious agency in contemporary Muslim societies, where informal religious spaces function as sites of empowerment, negotiation of gender roles, and reinterpretation of Islamic values in line with broader discussions on Islamic feminism and modern religious subjectivity.

Abstract

The rise of cancel culture on social media presents a critical challenge to Islamic digital literacy, particularly concerning the ethical principles of communication. This study investigates the erosion of the tabayyun (verification) principle amidst the normalization of public shaming, using the cancel culture phenomenon surrounding Indonesian public figure Gofar Hilman as a case study. Employing a digital netnography approach and thematic analysis, this research examines netizens' discourse, social media interactions, and digital public opinion mobilizations. The findings reveal that digital communities often bypass the verification process (tabayyun) and the ethical mandate of concealing others' faults (satr al-ʿayb), favoring instant moral judgment and collective delegitimization. While cancel culture operates as a modern mechanism for public accountability, it frequently mutates into digital vigilantism that contradicts Islamic communication ethics. This study contributes to the contemporary discourse on digital religion by providing a theoretical framework that bridges social media phenomena with Islamic ethical norms. Ultimately, the research emphasizes the urgent need to revitalize Islamic digital literacy to navigate the complexities of digital public spheres responsibly.

Abstract

This study examines the role and strategies of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers as agents of Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin da’wah in a multicultural public senior high school in East Java, Indonesia. Amid rising identity polarization and social intolerance among adolescents, IRE teachers are increasingly required to move beyond conventional instruction toward communicative and inclusive pedagogical engagement. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and school principals, participatory classroom observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal three interconnected roles enacted by IRE teachers: moral exemplars modeling compassionate conduct, facilitators of interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and integrators of universal Islamic values within formal learning processes. Strategies include dialogical and participatory instruction, community-based social projects, and the incorporation of local cultural wisdom to contextualize religious teachings. While curriculum constraints and social media dynamics present structural challenges, the multicultural school environment functions as a dynamic social laboratory for cultivating everyday practices of tolerance. This study contributes to religious education and Islamic communication scholarship by proposing a humanistic da’wah-based educational model grounded in persuasive, dialogical, and inclusive pedagogy, offering a contextual framework for strengthening religious moderation in pluralistic educational settings.
