Abstract

This research aimed to examine sport registers in online newspaper, and to obtain a list of words and phrases that are commonly used by the sport team when mentioning certain terms in the field of sport. The study was constrained by an examination of sport registers in the Jakarta Post online newspaper. The analytical research method and document analysis were used in this study. The study's findings were as follows: In the first article, it was found that six (6) or 31.5% data were classified as borrowing words, one (1) or 5.2% were acronyms, two (2) or 10.6% were abbreviations, two (2) or 10.6% were compounding, and eight (8) or 42.1% were categorized as inflections. In the second article, it was found that twelve (12) or 52,2% data were classified as borrowing words, one (1) or 4,3% were abbreviations, two (2) or 8,7% were compounding, and eight (8) or 34,8% were categorized as inflections. Moreover, in the third article, it was found that seven (7) or 31,8% data were classified as borrowing words, four (4) or 18,2% as acronyms, two (2) or 9,1% were abbreviations, one (1) or 4,5% were compounding, and eight (8) or 36,4% were categorized as inflections. There are not only words but phrase registers were found sport articles. There are 11 phrases found in three online news of sport article. It can be concluded that there are many registers to be found in sports news in the Jakarta Post online newspaper.

Abstract

Educational games are simulation-based media designed to simulate existing problems so that the essence of knowledge is obtained that can be used to solve problems. This study aims to produce a Character Education Strengthening device product in the form of a syllabus, teacher guide book, student guide book assisted by appropriate educational games, which have a level of product validity and practicality. Obtaining the product begins with conducting a preliminary study through literature studies, learning observations, testing to validators, limited-scale trials, revisions, products, main-scale trials, and final products. This study uses the type of research and development with the flow of Borg & Gall with stages from preliminary studies to field trials. The data collection instruments used were validation sheets, student response questionnaires, teacher responses, and observation sheets for the teacher's ability to use the product. The results showed that the product development in the form of a syllabus supplement obtained a score of 82.75%. At the same time, the product development of the Character Education Strengthening guidebook for teachers got a validation value from the validator of 84.66%. It obtained a validation value from the validator of 81.23%. Experimental test data for student responses scored 83.80%, and teacher responses reached 86.90%. It means that the development product falls into the very valid, very practical, and feasible.

Abstract

This research that belongs to quantitative research aims at finding the effectiveness of make a match technique to improve students’ vocabulary based on gender. The instrument given to the students was vocabulary in the context of a descriptive text. The subject of this research consisted of 25 students. This research only used experimental class for this research. The result of this research, there were significant improvement between pre-test and post-test score. The result obtained from sample T-test, it was found that the p value (0,000) was lower than 0.05 and t-observed (25.296) was higher than t-table (2.064).  While the result of differences score between female and male based on post test, the p value (.859) was higher than 0.05, there were not significant differences of vocabulary score between female and male. So, this technique make students interesting in teaching and learning vocabulary, this technique also helps students to understand about material easily.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to know and describe the average score of students’ narrative writing ability, and to know and describe whether there is an influence of Summarizing Short Stories towards students’ narrative writing ability at SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021. Most of the students get difficulties in improving their language skills, especially in writing. Writing is a problem in expressing and developing ideas or thoughts into written form. Narrative text is one of kinds of text that should be learned by the students. To solve the problem above, the writer used the technique in teaching narrative writing that is Summarizing Short Stories. In this research, the writer chooses the title: “The Influence of Summarizing Short Stories towards Students’ Narrative Writing Ability at the Second Semester of the Eighth Class at SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021”. In this reseach, the writer analyzed the result by using t-test formula. The research was conducted at the eighth class of SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021. The students of VIIIa were as a sample that were taught by using Summarizing Short Stories. The result of the research showed that there was significant influence of using Summarizing Short Stories towards students’ narrative writing ability. It is shown by the distribution list with df = (n1 + n2 – 2) = (23 + 22 – 2) = 43 obtained ttable t0.95 or significance level of 5% and ttable t0.99 or significance level of 1% was equal to 1.68 and 2.42. there were lower than tcount = 3.84 and the average score of students’ narrative writing ability in experimental class ( =66.58) was higher than the students’ score in control class (: 56.14) at the second semester of the eighth class of SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2020/2021.

Abstract

Tik tok is one of the most loved apps in the millennial era. The Tik Tok application is an application to create and share various short videos in vertical format, which is played by simply scrolling the screen up or down. Tik Tok users are increasing every day, especially during the pandemic era. In 2020, as of October Tik Tok reached 2 billion downloads worldwide. This application originating from China is widely downloaded by social media users to relieve boredom when they have to stay at home. This study aims to improve students' speaking skills through the Tik Tok application. The subjects of this study were 20 students of the third semester in English education major at STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The method used is descriptive quantitative method using classroom action research techniques. Based on the result, the improvement of students’ learning activities showed mean score of students’ learning activities in pre cycle is 68.88, in cycle I was 69 with the criteria was less active. While, the mean score of students’ learning activities in cycle II was 76.75 with the criteria were quite active. So, the improvement of students’ learning activities the first cycle to the second cycle was 7.75 point. From analyzing data, it could be concluded that classroom action research by using Tik Tok App improved students’ learning activities and students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

Infinitive phrase may function, not as a main verb of a clause, but as another part of speech—either as a noun, adjective, or adverb that takes the form of “to + verb” in its simplest form. This research is done to find out the types of infinitives found in the novel written by J.K. Rowling, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ and the function of infinitives found in the novel written by J.K. Rowling, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ done by 7 students of Magister of English Education of Lampung University. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, and the data is taken from the novel written by J.K Rowling ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’ page 1-8, 33-40, 65-72, 97-104, 129-136, 161-168, and 193-200.From the results and discussion, it can be concluded that not all students look for the same forms and classification of the infinitive, but the dominant types used in the novel is the to-infinitive.

Abstract

This research is aimed to describe Lucy’s thoughts, feelings, and actions in C.S. Lewis’s novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The problem formulated in the research will be answered based on Lucy’s thoughts, actions, and feelings and then describe it. The main source for this research was C.S. Lewis’s novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This novel is considered children’s literature. The focus and the data for this research were events in the novel which showed Lucy’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. The data were analyzed by using qualitative content analysis. The instrument was the researcher himself. There are four criteria: credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability, which the researcher used in order to make trustworthiness. The findings revealed that Lucy reflected her thoughts through knowledge and ideas, and understanding others’ feelings; her feelings through empathy and unselfishness; and her actions through her bravery and doing a favor for others. Therefore, this novel contains children’s empowerment, which can be categorized as a good novel. Furthermore, children's empowerment is considered an important aspect in children’s stories and it has a great influence to enrich children’s intelligence and emotion in their growing period.

Abstract

The monotonous learning media in English vocabulary, and memorizing method make students bored, so needed media innovations for these lessons, such as Smart Snake and Ladder. This paper aims to develop learning media Smart Snake and Ladder in mastering English vocabulary. The type of research used is R&D. The results of this research and development, showed that: (1) The development of the Smart Snake and Ladder media product pays attention to the safe appearance, and modified ways of playing to attract the user's attention, curiosity, and describe the theme material for elementary school children. (2) The development of smart snake and ladder media is very valid and feasible to use to improve English vocabulary mastery, as the validation results from material experts I get a 100% validity level and material II experts get 92.5%, media experts I 81.25 %, media experts II 85%, and media experts III 84.37%. (3). The effectiveness of using smart snake and ladder media can be seen from the pre-test and post-test data. The average value of the pre-test is 81.87 while the average value of the post-test is 96.20. Apart from the pre-test and post-test data, it can also be seen from the student assessment data with an average score of 99.9%.

Abstract

The teacher's role in the process of providing education is very dominant to be implemented. Every educational institution must be able to have competitiveness that can be demonstrated through improving the quality of education services. Therefore, efforts in the process of improving human resources, in this case, professional teachers, need concrete affirmation, to carry out their roles and duties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of teacher performance management in the process of implementing student learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Asyrof Teluk Betung Barat Bandar Lampung. This research is qualitative research, with a descriptive approach that aims to obtain information about the effectiveness of teacher performance management in the process of implementing student learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Asyrof Teluk Betung Barat, Bandar Lampung. While the data was obtained through the method of observation, documentation, and interviews. The results of this study explain the effectiveness of teacher performance management in the process of implementing student learning at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Asyrof Teluk Betung Barat Bandar Lampung by the planning, implementation, and evaluation process can run well.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive medium based on ICT with the Guided Discovery method for the Lajur Bata game on the geometry of the flat side space. In this study using research and development procedures through ADDIE model with the following stages: 1) Analysis; 2) Design; 3) Development; 4) Implementation; 5) Evaluation. The Feasibility Test involved 3 Material Experts and 3 Media Experts, while the Attractiveness Test involved 10 students in the Small Scale Trial, and 26 students in the Large Scale Trial. Based on the results of the validation questionnaire, both material experts and media experts have met the "valid" criteria. In the student's response to the feasibility and attractiveness of the brick-line game media, the results of the small-scale student response questionnaire of El-Shihab Islamic Junior High School Bandar Lampung with the "Interesting" criteria. On a large scale, El-Shihab Islamic Junior High School Bandar Lampung with the "Very Interesting" criteria so that the product developed by the researcher is feasible to use.
