Abstract

Therapy slow deep breathing exercise and acupressure is a complementary therapy that aims to reduce the symptoms of the disease to improve the quality of individual health. Complementary therapy is rarely done in hospitals so that the symptoms felt by patients are not reduced without medication. This therapy can reduce the symptoms of shortness of breath in patients who specifically experience impaired breathing patterns that are not effective. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of combination therapy slow deep breathing exercises and acupressure to address ineffective breathing pattern nursing problems in nursing care. This type of research is a case study using the nursing care method. The research sample was patients treated in the Gardena room at dr. Soebandi General Hospital Jember. Patients were given nursing interventions in the form of a combination of slow deep breathing exercise therapy and acupressure for 1-2 times a day for 3 days. Providing nursing interventions in the form of a combination of slow deep breathing exercise therapy and acupressure can overcome ineffective breathing pattern nursing problems. This is indicated by the improvement in the patient's condition that the shortness of breath is reduced, the frequency is improving, not using the auxiliary muscles of breathing, and the depth of breathing is improving. Patients can also carry out the therapy independently properly and correctly. A combination of slow deep breathing exercise therapy and acupressure can overcome the problem of ineffective breathing pattern nursing.

Abstract

Cervical cancer (CaCx) is the most common cancer among women and is also the major cause of death worldwide. It is the most common cancer among black Zimbabwean women accounting for 29.4% of the cases. The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge of cervical cancer and screening practices among women in Bindura District, Zimbabwe. A descriptive cross–sectional research study was conducted. The study sample consisted of 100 consenting women who were selected from Bindura Hospital, Chipadze and Chiwaridzo Council Clinics using simple random sampling method. Data were collected by face-to-face interviews using a questionnaire as a guide. Data were processed using Statistical Package Social Sciences (SSPS) software version 20 and analyzed descriptively. Data revealed that knowledge of risks factors and preventive measures for cervical cancer was poor as only (31%) had high knowledge levels. Although the majority of the respondents (77%) had heard about cervical cancer screening only (22%) were screened, the major reason cited being lack of knowledge. Perception of risk for cervical cancer was poor as (58%) of the respondents did not perceive to be at risk of cervical cancer. The study revealed that cervical cancer knowledge level was very low and screening practices were very poor. Therefore, health care providers need to intensify awareness on cervical cancer through health education across women of all age groups. The government should also make cervical cancer screening available and accessible at most health care facilities.

Abstract

The South Ogan Komering Ulu District Health Office noted an increase in cholesterol sufferers in 2020 of 743 people; in 2021, there were 870 people, and in 2022, there were 922 people. High cholesterol cases are caused by several risk factors, such as lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption. Garlic can be chosen as an alternative to lower blood cholesterol levels. Garlic contains allin which can increase HDL synthesis and slow down the endogenous synthesis of cholesterol. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the consumption of garlic (Allium sativum L) on cholesterol levels in female adolescents. This research uses a quasi-experiment with- a one-group Pretest-Posttest design. The population is a teenage daughter with moderate cholesterol (> 200 mg/dl to 239 mg/dl) of 30 adolescents in July 2023. Samples researcher using total sampling where teenagers will be given garlic capsules at a dose of 2x500 mg per day for 14 days. The instruments used were garlic capsules, sheets of observation, and technical instructions for checking cholesterol levels. A data analysis using the Paired Samples Test. The average cholesterol level of female adolescents before being given garlic was 219.53, while after being given garlic, it was 194.27. Bivariate results show a p-value of 0.00 0 < 0.05. There is an influence of the consumption of garlic (Allium sativum L) on cholesterol levels of young women in Tanjung Menang Ilir Village, South Ogan Komering Ulu District, South Sumatra in 2023. It is hoped that adolescents will be able to use garlic as an herbal remedy for cholesterol-lowering therapy so that it can be controlled and stable within normal limits.

Abstract

Teenager woman is one of the groups at high risk of suffering from anemia. As a prospective mother who will give birth to the next generation of the nation, the problem of anemia in young women needs serious attention because if it continues later during pregnancy it will have a negative impact on both the health of the mother and the fetus including, namely, post partum bleeding, weak uterine contractions and can reduce the mother's immune system so that the mother will be more susceptible to infection. One of the causes of anemia is a lack of knowledge about anemia resulting in difficulties in cultivating good health behavior. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital pocketbooks and posters on anemia knowledge in young women. This study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and control group design approaches. sampling technique using simple random sampling. The population and sample in this study were 52 grade 7 girls at SMPN 13 Jember. The analysis used the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results of this study stated that there was a difference in knowledge of anemia after being given a digital pocketbook and a poster, namely the P value 0.017 <0.05 with the mean ranks between the digital pocketbook 31.44 and the poster 12.56. So, it can be concluded that digital pocketbooks are more effective in increasing knowledge of anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Infection with Hepatitis B remains a health challenge across the globe. This descriptive survey focused on the knowledge of hepatitis B infection (HBI) and prevention practices of pregnant women. Thus, this study assessed knowledge of HBI, HBI prevention practices, factors affecting the practice of HBI prevention among pregnant women, the association between the socio-demographic characteristics cum knowledge of HBI, as well as the relationship between the knowledge of HBI and the prevention practices. Balloting with replacement was employed in selecting 267 pregnant women attending an antenatal clinic in Delta State, Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was a Questionnaire developed by the researchers. The reliability of the instrument was conducted using Cronbach alpha which yielded coefficient of 0.738. Data collected were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean, Kruskal Walis test and Chi-Square statistic test. Majority of the study respondents (53.8%) had low level of knowledge about HBI but 60% had good level of prevention practice. 36.7% of the pregnant women believed that they had a low-risk status for HBI, 43.4% that prayer was more effective than vaccine and 60.7% that herbal medicine was available to prevent HBI. Significant association did not exist between pregnant women’s socio-demographic characteristics and their knowledge of HBI (k=2.92, p-value=0.10). Significant relationship existed between knowledge of HBI and the prevention practices of pregnant women (X2=36.71; p-value=0.001). Findings showed that the pregnant women had a low knowledge level for hepatitis B virus but a good level of prevention practice possibly due to high level of provider-initiated preventive services. Nurses should organize more detailed health education sessions on hepatitis B infection to pregnant women and keep up with their role of performing provider-initiated preventive services.

Abstract

The quality of a nurse’s work life is the degree of satisfaction regarding personal and organizational needs based on experience in a work organization. A nurse with a dual role is the nurse who acts as a mother and a professional nursing staff at the same time. The purpose was to determine differences in the quality of female nurses’ work life in gender and nursing perspective at Balung General Hospital and Kalisat General Hospital in Jember Regency. The research method uses a comparative study with a quantitative research type. The sampling technique in this research is random sampling with a total of 115 samples. Data collection was conducted by using questionnaires about the quality of nurses’ work life from the nursing perspective and questionnaires conflict with women’s dual role from the gender perspective. Data processing using the Mann-Whitney analysis test with a 95% significance level (α=0.05). The results using Mann-Whitney analysis showed that there is a difference between the gender perspective and the nursing perspective (p=0.000). The mean results showed that the nursing perspective () is higher than the gender perspective (). The conclusion shows that the quality of female nursing work life from the gender perspective needs to be improved. The hospital needed to review further regarding work schedules and shift time; the family needed to provide full support and good cooperation; and female nurses themselves must also have good coping control, time, and energy management. Apart from that, it is necessary to have a policy from the room head and team leader regarding the distribution of schedules for female nursing staff without reducing the feeling of unfairness for male health workers.

Abstract

Physical activity exercise is an essential component in comprehensive diabetes management. Non-adherence to physical activity exercises can lead to poor metabolic control, causing increased complications, morbidity, and premature death due to diabetes. One of the factors that can determine the behavior of physical activity is the psychosocial factor of people with T2DM. The study aims to assess the effect of psychosocial factors on physical activity behavior. This study was an analytical observational with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size was 138 respondents with multistage random sampling. The dependent variable was physical activity behavior, and the independent variables were psychosocial factors (knowledge, coping, distress, perceptions of family support, and perceptions of nurse support). Data analysis used multiple linear regression (α=0.05). Psychosocial factors that influenced the physical activity behavior were distress (p=0.001 < α=0.05). Meanwhile, knowledge, coping, perceived family support, and perceived nurse support did not affect physical activity behavior (p=0.684; p=0.919; p=0.235; p=0.108 > α=0.05) with Adjusted R2=0.113 (F=4.502; p=0.001 < α=0.05). Psychosocial factors that influence physical activity behavior in T2DM patients are diabetic distress. Therefore, health workers, in providing health services as much as possible, must be able to prevent and reduce diabetes distress to increase the physical activity behavior of people with T2DM.

Abstract

Exhausted nurses in providing nursing care can impact work stress. Many factors cause work stress. Work stress is the type of psychological stress that reduces the lacrimal gland's activity, affecting dry eye syndrome. The study aims to analyze the correlation between work stress and nurses' dry eye syndrome in Nganjuk General Hospital. The study was a descriptive correlative observational with a cross-sectional design. The sample was 84 nurses, taken by simple random sampling. Data were collected using Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Ocular Surface Disease (OSDI) questionnaires. The study showed nurses experienced mild stress (96.43%) and moderate dry eye syndrome (36.90%). There was a positive correlation between work stress and dry eye syndrome in nurses in the weak category (r=0.356; p= 0.001< 0.05). There were no significant differences in work stress by age, gender, working period, and marital status (p=0.388; p=0.687 p=0.730; p = 0.839 > α 0.05). There was a significant difference in work stress based on education (p=0.033 < α 0,05). There were no significant differences in dry eye syndrome with age, gender, working period, and marital status (p=0.644; p=0.436; p= 0.865; p=0.072; p=0.719 > α 0,05). The study conclusion is that work stress is related to dry eyes syndrome. Apart from that, work stress is also influenced by the level of education. Therefore, interventions to reduce work stress in nurses should pay attention to education level to reduce the risk of dry eyes syndrome.

Abstract

Nursing Process is a proven means of standardizing patients` care and maintaining the autonomy of the nursing profession. It is considered globally as a standard tool which gives nurses opportunity of caring for patients in a scientific, holistic, and flexible way (1, 2). If nursing process is utilized properly, it enables nurses to offer independent care to patient (2), However, certain hospital-related factors are thought to influence nurses` implementation of the nursing process (3). To assess Nurses` perspective on the effect of certain Hospital-related factors on implementation of the Nursing Process in Chuka level 5 Hospital in Kenya. A cross-sectional survey done at Chuka level 5 hospital in Kenya. Study population were nurses working in Chuka hospital. Simple random sampling was used to get 30 nurses to make the study sample. Questionnaires were employed for data collection. Data summary was done using descriptive statistics and presented in tables. Study participants` mean age was 37.2 (±9.3) with majority being females (46.7% (n=14)), married (76.7% (n=23)), and with diploma qualification (56.7 % (n=17)). The majority of the study participants felt that status of a number of hospital related factors that play critical part in implementation of the nursing process were inadequate with staffing, resources availability leading in the inadequate verdict by over 70% of the study participants. Majority (80%) of the participants felt that the nurse-patient ratio was negatively influencing their ability to implement the nursing process. However, they were more or less equally divided on their perception as to whether each of the remaining factors were influencing their utilization of the nursing process either positively or negatively. The study participants reported the presence of inadequacy of hospital-related factors which negatively impacted on their implementation of the nursing process. Hospital management should prioritize the implementation of the nursing process by allocating adequate resources and proving active leadership on the same, as it is key in the delivery of quality nursing care.
