Abstract

The majority of Muslims agree that rasm 'uthmānī should be used as a reference in the pattern of copying the Qur'an, but the Qur'an mushaf 278/16 collection of Pedir Museum Aceh tends to violate this consensus. In addition, research on the rasm aspect in the ancient mushaf of Aceh is also still limited. Therefore, this research is important to do. This study seeks to answer several questions. First, what are the characteristics of the Qur'an 278/16 mushaf in the collection of Pedir Museum Aceh? Second, how is the use of rasm in the Qur'an 278/16 mushaf collection of Pedir Museum Aceh? This research is classified as literature research with a qualitative model. Descriptive methods were used to analyze the existing data, then compared the writing of words in this mushaf with the narrations of al-shaykhān, al-Dānī and Abū Dāwūd. The results showed that the mushaf was an ancient Acehnese mushaf written around the 18th century AD with characteristics like other Acehnese mushaf. From observations, it can be seen that this mushaf is written using mixed rasm, thus showing the inconsistency of rasm in writing. Some words are written using rasm 'uthmānī with a tendency to follow the narration of al-Dānī. Others are written using the rasm imlā'ī with predominance violating ḥadhf rules as well as violating other rules.

Abstract

Love is a feeling that has moved human life. It is often defined as an expression of affection and sympathy towards a specific object. Due to the sacredness of love in life, the Quran has mentioned it in several verses, both explicitly and implicitly. These verses have been uniformly understood by scholars, but Said Ramadhan al-Buthi has a unique and different perspective in interpreting them. Therefore, this research focuses on how al-Buthi interprets al-hubb (love) that is found in several verses in the Quran and then classifies them. This research aims to uncover the meaning of love in the Quran according to al-Buthi and what thematic categorization he does on love in the Quran. This research is a literature review (library research). Furthermore, the data is analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results show that al-Buthi defines love as a feeling of attachment to something where a person feels comfortable when close to the object and reluctant to be away from it. However, this definition is only applicable to humans. For him, the illustration of Allah's love is difficult to explain in detail because Allah is not like His creatures, but recognition of Allah's love can be achieved through the path that Allah has set. Furthermore, al-Buthi classifies love in the Quran into several categories, namely: Allah's love for humans and the impact of that love in increasing human obedience, then human love for Allah, which is divided into al-hubb al-kasbi and al-hubb al-qadim.

Abstract

Symbols are important elements that are often used in everyday life. The Qur'an contains many messages which are depicted using certain symbols. The current reality is that there are still many who do not know and understand the symbols used in the Koran. This research will explore and discuss the use of flora symbols used in the Qur'an. These symbols are important to know and understand with the aim of understanding the messages contained in the Qur'an. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research type. Data analysis in this research uses the triangle meaning semiotic theory from Carles Sanders Peirce's perspective. After carrying out the analysis, this research found that there are 25 verses in the Qur'an that use flora symbols, which are divided into 2 classifications, namely general and specific symbol mention classifications. Which is divided into 3 general mentions of floral symbols and 7 specific mentions of floral symbols. The symbols mentioned are generally used in the Qur'an to show God's power and mercy in everything that has been created. Meanwhile, the Qur'an uses specific mention of flora symbols to show the benefits of flora in the continuity of human life.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the Quran's resistance to economic oligarchy by referencing the interpretations of Surah Al-Humazah and Al-Hashr: 7. Employing the tafsir Nuzuli approach from the perspective of Muhammad Abid al-Jabiri, the article delves into two main issues: Firstly, the review of the tafsir Nuzuli concerning economic principles in Surah Al-Humazah and al-Hashr verse 7. Secondly, the correlation between these verses and their contextualization in relation to economic oligarchy. The study adopts a literature review using a descriptive-analytical method. Based on an analysis of interpretation aspects, sabab nuzul, and the historical context of pre-Islamic Arabia, the study concludes that the verses articulate the Quran's opposition to economic oligarchy. The interpretation of Surah Al-Humazah condemns the propaganda of economic oligarchy perpetrators, specifically a group of pagan Quraisy elites. The interpretation of al-Hashr verse 7 reveals the wealth distribution policy implemented during the Prophet's leadership in Medina based on maslahah, ensuring the avoidance of concentrating wealth exclusively among a select few affluent individuals. The sabab nuzul of these verses, associated with the conditions of pre-Islamic Arabia, elucidates the Quranic vision of economic justice, allowing for its contextualization in the present era.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contributions of classical and contemporary Qur'anic interpretations to environmental ethics and to evaluate their relevance and application in the context of modern environmental challenges. Employing a qualitative analysis, the study reviews key interpretations from eminent scholars such as Imam Ar-Razi, Al-Maraghi, and M. Quraish Shihab. The analysis is grounded in their exegeses of specific Qur'anic verses related to environmental stewardship, integrating both classical and contemporary perspectives. The interpretations collectively underscore the Qur'anic advocacy for an integrated approach to environmental care, emphasizing balance, justice, and the moral implications of human interactions with the environment. Imam Ar-Razi's interpretations highlight the spiritual causation of environmental harm, while Al-Maraghi and Shihab focus on the principles of balance and justice as central to ecological stewardship. The study reaffirms that Qur'anic teachings provide a profound ethical framework for addressing the environmental crisis, advocating for a holistic approach that incorporates spiritual, moral, and practical dimensions. These findings suggest the need for greater integration of religious teachings in environmental education and policy-making. Promoting a deeper understanding of ecological ethics among religious communities could foster more sustainable environmental practices.

Abstract

Ikhtilaf is differences of opinions in understanding a matter, but not everyone can accept those differences in navigating social life. In this case, some residents of Ceurih community in Aceh can accept the occurrence of ikhtilaf, while others might find it challenging and even reject it although ideally ikhtilaf must be accepted as explained in surah An-Nisa verse 59. Based on this issue, the researcher aimed to examine the community’s understanding in resolving the problem of ikhtilaf among them so far. This study was conducted using a qualitative method with field research as a means of data collection. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis generating descriptive data in the forms of people’s words or oral and observable behaviors. The results show that there were two understandings of resolving ikhtilaf. Some people within the society agreed with the village head’s decisions to resolve disagreements as mentioned in surah An-Nisa verse 59 that it is obligatory to follow ulil amr (the leader) as long as it does not contradict with Al-Quran and Sunnah. However, others dealt with ikhtilaf by making their personal decision without consulting their leader. Therefore, not all members of the community in Ceurih village implemented the essence of surah An-Nisa verse 59 in resolving the occurrence of ikhtilaf.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and compare the ideological visions of Sekarmaji Marijan Kartosuwiryo with Hamka's interpretations in Tafsir Al-Azhar, particularly regarding the Islamic concepts of faith, migration (hijrah), and jihad, and their implications for the formation of an Islamic state in post-independence Indonesia. Employing a comparative analysis methodology and bibliographic research approach, this study collected and analyzed data from a variety of primary and secondary sources, including books, journal articles, and historical documentation. The analysis reveals fundamental differences between Kartosuwiryo, who advocates for the establishment of an Islamic state based on strict Sharia principles with a radical approach, and Hamka, who emphasizes the necessity of spiritual and moral transformation through hijrah and jihad. While Kartosuwiryo views hijrah and jihad as political tools for social and political restructuring, Hamka interprets these concepts as a spiritual journey supporting internal change and personal growth.

Abstract

The identification of the meaning of nafs wāḥidah, as produced by various interpretations through Adam, is claimed to be a biased interpretation mechanism based on certain orientations. This research aims to uncover the interpreters' orientation towards the text by situating the interpretation process as the interpreter's interaction with the text within a specific communication context. To achieve this objective, a qualitative method is employed in this research, utilizing a reception frame introduced by Wolfgang Iser. This study reveals that the interpreter's orientation towards specific meanings is constrained by the linguistic structure of the Qur'an, which has been schematized. This constraint on the interpreter's orientation occurs when seeking the contextual significance of the verse through syntagmatic and paradigmatic interconnections. The interpreter's relationship with the Qur'an within a specific communication context limits and shapes tendencies in the interpretation process, which is text-driven. In this context, the interpretation of the term nafs wāḥidah, in its various forms, does not exhibit any discernible biases towards producing meanings in alignment with the interpreter's preferences. Instead, the interpreter solely seeks contextual clues within the verse's structure, thereby associating the meaning of nafs wāḥidah with other terms in an interconnected context.
