Abstract Local wisdom values mean society awareness about their ability in recognizing the surrounding condition. In this context, the values refer to the Lampungnese custom in planting crop. Unfortunately, many EFL learners were not familiar with their surroundings. Furthermore, this research describes the used of environmental issue topic in learning Essay writing. The teaching and learning process was done by EFL students by using online platform. It was suggested during the pandemic situation. However, the aim of this research is describing EFL students’ activities in emerging environmental topic toward their essay. This research was done on second semester of essay writing students. It was about 27 students. In conducting the teaching and learning process the lecturers choose any pictures that deal with the local culture of Lampungnese in planting crop as a topic. Then, the students would be more familiar with the values of the culture and elaborate the values in term of essay writing.

Abstract: This research focuses on teaching English using pictures to UBSI students. From various pictures given to the students during their English learning in one semester, only one is specifically chosen by the researcher for students’ weekly task. The picture of a family consists of parents and siblings. The scores for the weekly task are based on two criterions set up by the researcher. Those criterions are: first, basic grammar and second, sufficient vocabulary. The methodology of this research is a qualitative research investigating the use of pictures in teaching English to UBSI students by analyzing a number of theories from numerous scholars. There are two findings obtained from this research. The first finding was obtained from a table calculating the score of students’ weekly task. The second finding obtained from a figure in the form of diagram presented in three different colors interpreting students’ weekly task in percentages. There are three main performances generated from this research after received the scores from students’ weekly task. First performance is awarded to students scored 80 points or “Great” performance and marked in A. Second performance is awarded to students scored 70 points or “Well-Managed” performance and marked in B. Third performance is awarded to students scored 60 points or “Sufficient” performance marked in C. The main points from this research are: First, the pictures help students to understand the lesson well. Second, the pictures encourage students to learn English. Third, the pictures teach the students to become creative thinkers. Keywords: English, Pictures, Students, Teaching.

Typology is a language study that is used to classify the characteristics or behaviors contained in the Central Javanese and Banyumas languages. This study discusses how the construction of passive verbs in Central Javanese and Banyumas languages and how to group them based on the characteristics of passive sentences in general. The method used is the listening and note-taking method with respondents who are native speakers of the two languages. This research reveals that there are at least four language characteristics discussed, such as; the use of prefixes dak- kok-, and di- in Central Javanese and tek-, kok-, and di- in Banyumas Javanese and how the rules are used. Then, this study also explains how the change in the form of the verb from the original 'colong' or 'take' to 'tekcolong' or 'taken', and it proves that the subject in both languages can be erased. The fourth characteristic is discussing the sound changes that result from passivation in Central Javanese and Banyumas.

A story implies meaning because it is delivered by language. The plot is told by language and the characters in the story are also described by language. The language expresses clauses that can be interpreted. Kate Chopi’s ‘A Respectable Woman’ is a story about a married couple that ends unclear. This story have carried meaning through its ideology. It must be revealed to conclude the story ending. Since this story is not an easy story, Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) was applied to help the writer exploring the linguistic features. SFG could identify evidences of the story’s meaning. Through qualitative and quantitative methods, the writer presented the description of the Systemic Functional Grammar to present linguistic features and interpret the ideology which is recommitting to marriage.

Abstract The impossibility to continue the conventional classroom created an inevitable situation where online learning is the most suitable solution at the moment to keep up the learning process amidst the pandemic. It is presumably familiar to students, but the sudden change of online learning being applied sporadically to regularly arise an issue of how the students perceive, access, react to it and the challenges they face. This study aims to find out students’ perceptions on online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subject of the study is students of the English Study Program of Riau University. Descriptive approaches to quantitative methods were used in this study. Google form was used to collect the data and there were 127 students that participated in filling out the questionnaire. SPSS 26 was used to analyze the collected data. The findings revelead that students’ perceptions were negative toward online learning. The three main reasons affecting the result were the lack of enthusiasm, internet sustainability, and technical issues.

The Covid-19 virus has spread throughout the world both in cities and in remote areas. The spread of the corona virus has caused the cessation of various kinds of human activities, including in the educational aspect. Teachers in rural places have faced many challenges in teaching during the pandemic. This is due to the many obstacles and problems faced by teachers during the pandemic. This study aims to describe the practices and strategies that teachers apply when teaching English in rural school. The method used in this research is qualitative using a descriptive approach. Data was collected through questionnaires via Google form and interviews via Whatsapp. The results of the study show that teachers who teach in rural places face many obstacles when teaching, such as; the lack of internet access and mastery of technology owned by students are also low motivated in leaning. In addition, teachers do more home teaching as one of their responsibilities to assist students in providing a better understanding of the english material. This research aims to describe the hedonism portrayed in Shania Twain’s song. Moreover, it also aims at describing the negative effect of hedonism on young people’s futures. The objective of this study is to analyze the hedonic behavior expressed in the song lyrics and also to describe the negative impact of hedonism, especially for the younger generation, as reflected in the song. "Ka-Ching!" is chosen as the song as it has many hedonistic behaviors, and it is taken as the main research data sung by Shania Twain. Hermeneutic Interpretation theory and Sociology of Literature theory are used. Descriptive qualitative is chosen as a research method. Based on the research, the result shows the types of hedonism expressed in Ka-Ching song lyrics consist of: The results of this research are that (1) the hedonistic issues portrayed in the song lyrics cover aesthetic and egoistic hedonism. These two types dominate the two song lyrics belonging to Shania Twain. The other result is that the ways to anticipate hedonism in life include being wise, being grateful, being simpler in life, and being closer to God.

The improbability of continuing the traditional classroom during the pandemic Covid-19 caused an Unavoidable condition where blended learning was the most proper solution to conduct the learning process. This study intends to investigate how students view blended learning, particularly in English classrooms. The research's population is the eighth-grade students of MTS Fadhilah Pekanbaru with 93 students involved as the research samples. The instrument used to gain the data is a questionnaire consisting of 35 items divided into four aspects (behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and economic). The data were scored using a Likert scale with four options; Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD). The findings showed that the students’ perception on blended learning was high level with an average score of 107.46. Owing to this, it can be determined that the students had positive perceptions when learning English through a blended learning method. They showed positive behaviors during blended learning where they always came to the lessons and submitted their assignments on time. Also, they believed blended learning allowed them to explore their potential and be more creative in the learning process.

A difficult speaking in English has become one of the student problems in English learing. The application of using Think Pair Share method is needed for students to improve students’ speaking ability in expressing opinion.. This is classroom action research which has purpose to describe whether think pair share method can improve students’ speaking ability in expressing opinion at eighth grade of SMPN1 Kotabumi. The research procedure consist of four steps, namely: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Each cycle consist of two meetings and one assessment to measure students’ speaking ability in expressing opinion, each meeting lasted for 70 minutes. The second cycle was a remedial of the first cycle by revising some components that used in the learning process. To collect the data, the researcher use d oral test and observation sheet. The data is analyzed by summing the score and counting the percentage. The percentage is used as learning indicator that has been approved by the researcher and collaborator. The standart score of speaking is 70. If the targeted percerntage is reached 90% or more it means that the implementation of Think Pair Share method in expressing opinion said succeed. From the data analysis, the percentage of students’ activity in the first cycle is 72%, and it increases into 100% in the second cycle. Meanwhile, the teacher’s activity also increases from 75% in cycle 1 into 97,5% in cycle 2. So, it can be concluded that Think Pair Share method can improve students’ speaking ability in expressing opinion at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Kotabumi.

The globalization and 21st century learning needs students to adopt a better approach to learning. As there are two types of approaches namely surface approach and deep approach, it is needed to investigate which are students leaning towards to, including the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence them especially in the sudden transition of online learning in pandemic situation. Using the modified R-SPQ-2F and a semi-guided interview, the study was conducted in one high school in North Bali. Using Slovin formula, there are 200 respondents who participated in the study. The modified R-SPQ-2F were analyzed using the mean score analysis and the results are students leaning towards the surface approach in the context of EFL Online learning. The interview analyzed with interactive model analysis gives comprehensive view of the supporting and inhibiting factors of the deeper approach. Turns out personal motivation, teachers’ style of teaching, and environmental factors directs their approach. These findings showed that the student learning approach is one way to evaluate the learning process. Teachers, students, and government should consider this to re-adjust the current learning situation to improve the quality of education.
