Abstract

ABSTRAK   Bambu petung (Dendrocalamus asper Back.) secara alami akan tumbuh baik pada tempat-tempat yang berada pada ketinggian >300 m dpl. Namun di desa Majasari, kecamatan Cibogo, kabupaten Subang , bambu petung ditanam di dataran rendah (<90 m dpl). Penelitian karakteristik pertumbuhan tanaman bambu petung di dataran rendah telah dilakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan struktur kelompok umur batang bambu petung di desa Majasari terdiri dari 81,9%  tegakan rumpun berstruktur 3 kelompok umur batang, 17,8% tegakan rumpun  berstruktur 2 kelompok umur batang dan  0,3% tegakan rumpun  yang berstruktur hanya 1 kelompok umur batang.  Komposisi kelompok umur batang tersebut relatif berimbang antara batang umur 1, 2 dan 3 tahun masing-masing adalah 37,0%, 32,6% dan 30,4%. Karakteristik tegakan rumpun bambu petung dicirikan dengan rata-rata jumlah batang/rumpun ialah 30,2 batang/rumpun, keliling rumpunnya 8,8 m dan kerapatan rumpunnya 3,2 batang/meter. Karakteristik tegakan batang tergolong berukuran kecil dicirikan dengan rata-rata diameter batang 11,5 cm, tinggi batang 15,8 meter dengan tinggi bebas cabang 6,9 meter, berat batang segar 39,6 kg dan tebal dinding batang 3,9 cm. Angka permudaan tergolong cukup besar yaitu 81,9% sehingga potensi produktivitasnya juga besar.   Kata kunci : karakteristik, bambu petung (Dendrocalamus asper Back.), dataran rendah

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop environment based digital comic as learning media in integrated science lesson. In this study, there are four development steps; surveys and needs analysis, product development, expert validation and a limited field test. Surveys conducted by taking questionnaire to 25 students who have attended in integrated science course. Based on the surveys result, we develop learning media in two stages: developing comic design then uploading into e-learning program. Field test subject is Physics education study program, that attended in  integrated science course. The result of this study shows that environment based digital comic can be used in the process of learning both in the classroom or self-study, with good scores both in expert validation and limited field test. Abstract

Pengembangan profesi bagi guru idealnya seiring dan sejalan dengan pengembangan karir. Pengembangan profesi guru berkaitan erat dengan kompetensi dan kinerja guru. Salah satu acuan dalam penilaian kinerja guru adalah Peraturan Menteri Negara Aparatur Negara dan Reformasi Birokrasi no 16 tahun 2009. Penelitian survei eksploratif ini berupaya memberikan gambaran fakta di lapangan mengenai permasalahan yang dialami oleh guru biologi SMA dan guru IPA SMP dalam pengembangan profesi dan karir. Partisipan yang terlibat dalam penelitian ini adalah guru biologi dan IPA di Kota Surakarta dan sekitarnya yang berjumlah 44 orang guru. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan angket. Analisis deskriptif kuantitaif dilakukan untuk menggambarkan permsalahan yang sedang dikaji. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar guru mengalami kesulitan untuk naik ke golongan IIId yaitu sebanyak 18 orang (41%) dan menuju golongan IVb sebanyak 11 orang (25%). Di sisi lain sebetulnya sebagian besar guru (26 orang / 59%) sudah memahami peraturan yang berlaku. Penulisan karya ilmiah terpublikasi dirasakan oleh sebagian besar yaitu 38 orang (86%) sebagai kendala dalam kenaikan pangkat. Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa semua guru Biologi dan guru IPA (100%) membutuhkan pelatihan penulisan karya ilmiah yang relevan dengan keperluan pengajuan kenaikan pangkat/golongan..

Abstract

Abstract-The development of the agricultural sector has resulted in the increase of the environmental pollution by chemicals, such as; persistent organochlorine contaminants, can undergo bioaccumulation in nature. Ramadhani and Oginawati (2009) stated that organochlorine compounds classified as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are chemical compounds that are persistent in the environment, can undergo bioaccumulation in the food chain, and has the risk of being the cause of many negative impacts on human health and the environment. In the agricultural area, there are microorganisms in the soil that act as decomposers of organic materials or use organic materials as food. This research was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Research Center for Biology LIPI Cibinong February 2012 to August 2012. Isolation and characterization of microbes degrading Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) performed at the Laboratory of Microbiology Research Center for Biology LIPI Cibinong by using three stages, (1) Isolation and identification of POPs degrading microbes, (2) test the growth characteristics of the isolates in the different types of POPs. The purpose of the study is to select the bacteria in the soil that could potentially degrade the insecticide residues that have the characteristics of POPs ( dieldrin , DDT , aldrin , heptaklor ) . The results of bacterial isolation study shows that there are five (5) types of bacteria which are able to degrade POPs ( dieldrin , DDT , aldrin , heptachlor ). Those bacteria are Achoromobacter sp, Catenococcus thiocycli, Heliothrix oregonensis, Bacillus cereus ,Bacillus subtilis. Keywords: soil, isolation, POPs, degrading bacteria

Abstract

Spent brewer’s yeasts are a by product of the beer production, containing useful bioactive substances, such as proteins, amino acids, nucleotides, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. Up till now,  intact  spent brewer’s yeast has been used as a supplement to animal feed. High protein content in spent brewer’s yeast (45-60% in dry weight) makes it good to be produced into yeast extract (YE) as a protein source. YE consists primarily of amino acids, peptides, nucleotides, and other soluble components, that are needed in microbiological media. This study aims to determine the differences between four physical or mechanical treatments (freezing-thawing, homogenization, glass beads, and combination of freezing-thawing and glass beads) in YE production of the cell distruption and protein content, and the quality of YE produced for microbiological media. Measurements of cell count and dissolved protein content were performed to determine the best physical method, while physical, chemical, and biological parameter measurements were performed to determine the quality of YE. The results showed that the best treatment for cell distruption was combination of freezing-thawing and glass beads with percentage of distrupted cell and soluble protein content of 99.5% and 2.779 mg / ml, respectively. YE from spent brewer's yeast contains soluble protein and α-amino nitrogen as much as 3.671 and 1.352 mg / ml, and total nitrogen and crude protein of 2.21 and 13.81 mg / ml, lower compare to commercial YE. Biological testing data YE from spent brewer's yeast has ability to increase cell density (OD) and number of colonies in E. coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae D.01.Further research on the use of spent brewer’s yeast to produce YE using spent brewer’s yeast without steam and glass beads with diameter less than 0.5 mm is necessary to improve the yield and quality of the YE.

Abstract

ABSTRAK   Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi sifat fisik dan kimia yoghurt yang dibuat dari tepung kedelai rendah lemak dengan penambahan variasi bahan penstabil. Kedelai diolah menjadi tepung kedelai, kemudian dilakukan ekstraksi minyak menggunakan pelarut hexana untuk mengurangi kadar lemaknya. Bahan penstabil yang ditambahkan yaitu pati singkong, pati jagung, dan gelatin pada konsentrasi 1%, 1,5%, dan 2%. Data dianalisis menggunakan GLM-univariate dan anova satu arah, yang dilanjutkan dengan Duncan pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada  pengaruh konsentrasi bahan penstabil terhadap total asam yoghurt. Konsentrasi bahan penstabil yang rendah menunjukkan total asam yang rendah, yaitu S-1% (3,15%), J-1% (3,2%), dan G-1% (3,17%). Jenis bahan penstabil dan konsentrasinya berpengaruh terhadap pH, viskositas, dan syneresis yoghurt. Level pH terendah diberikan oleh yoghurt J-2% yaitu 4,12. Viskositas tertinggi ditunjukkan oleh yoghurt S-2%, yaitu 169,26 cP. Syneresis tertinggi diberikan oleh yoghurt S-1% (52,46%).   Kata Kunci: yoghurt, kedelai, penstabil, pH, keasaman, viskositas, syneresis.

Abstract

The purposes of this study are; (1) to prove whether there is a positive and significant effect of learning motivation on the science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, (2) to prove whether there is positive and significant gender effect on the science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, and (3) to prove whether there is a positive and significant effect of learning motivation and gender together on science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. This is an ex post facto research. The population were all bilingual class students of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. The sample was determined by saturated sampling technique. The data were obtained by questionnaire instrument of learning motivation, documentation of student's personal data and student's learning achievement score from their teachers. Instruments tested by the validity of Product Moment Pearson, internal validity of expert judgement, and reliability with Alpha Cronbach Test. Data of learning motivation, gender and science learning achievement in this research were analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS 19 for Windows software. The results of this study are as follows. (1) There is no significant effect (p> 0,05) learning motivation on science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. (2) There is no significant (p> 0,05) gender effect on science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. (3) There is no significant effect (p> 0,05) learning motivation and gender simultaneously on the science learning achievement of bilingual class student SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar.

Abstract

The lessons that have been conducted so far have not been well optimized assessed from the point of view of lecturers and students. Learning that have been conducted is a teacher centered learning. Student activities tend to be passive, most of the students are just coming, sitting, listening, silent and lack of spirit while following the learning process. This study aims to improve student learning activity in the third semester class of Biology Education Study Program of Tanjungpura University through cooperative learning model with mind mapping in Environmental Studies. Classroom Action Research is used as the method of the research.  Non test by observationsheet is used as the method for collecting data .Data analysis that conducted in this research is qualitativedescriptive studies. The result of the research shows that there is an increase of students' learning activity by reading, notice the pictures, questioning, discussing, giving suggestions, listening actively, writing the results of activities, drawing the mind map, presenting and displaying the mind mapping work with the average result of first cycle 72.27% and 87.38% for the second cycle. The result of data analysis shows cooperative learning model along with mind mapping can increase student learning activity.

Abstract

ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kekayaan dan keragaman jenis semut pada empat tipe habitat dalam kawasan hutan lindung Gunung Nona Ambon dan  mengetahui pengaruh alih fungsi hutan lindung terhadap keragaman semut dalam kawasan. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada empat tipe habitat dalam kawasan hutan, masing-masing hutan murni, areal pemukiman, areal pertanian/perkebunan dan areal hutan tanaman. Penelitian dilaksanakan selama tiga bulan menggunakan sistem line transec pada areal seluas 50 ha dengan 3 metode pengambilan sampel yakni menggunakan Pitfall trap, Bait trap dan Soil and Leaf litter sieving. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya 4 genus dominan pada empat tipe habitat yakni Paratrechina, Pheidole, Lophomyrmex dan Tetraponera. Hasil inventarisasi ditemukan 30 jenis semut dalam areal hutan murni, 17 jenis dalam hutan tanaman, 15 jenis pada areal pertanian/perkebunan dan 5 jenis pada areal pemukiman penduduk. Indeks keragaman jenis semut menunjukkan pada hutan murni sebesar 2,76 disusul areal pertanian/perkebunan 2,07, areal hutan tanaman 1,09 dan areal pemukiman 0,87. Perubahan penggunaan lahan sangat mempengaruhi keragaman semut dalam hal ketersediaan pakan dan kondisi iklim mikro di tiap habitat. Abstract

Since three years ago Plant Physiology lecture has been using a model of learning Reading, Questioning, and Answering System (RQA), but the results are still not satisfactory. Three open classes of Lesson Study (LS) has been implemented to improve the lecture on April 4, 7, and 14,  2014 by the LS Team consisting of three lecturers and four assistant lecturers. The input for improving the teaching and learning process of lecture conducted as a result of reflection before and after three open classes covers additional tasks preparing a concept map or mind map tasks besides RQA, the improved form of  power point presentation,  improved mastery of material by the  presenters, query answering written questions in the Chapter Review  that the material covered is more substantial. Presenters should also display images related to the  material being discussed, request that the student submit the RQA power point at the beginning of lecture, and gave a rebuttal that is not a technical issue but a substantial concerns, as well as write and collect lecture notes at the end of the course. The results showed an improvement in the learning  processes and increased student engagement in learning.
