Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan persepsi guru biologi SMP Se-Surakarta tentang Biologi sebagai Sains. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan mengungkapkan sejauh mana guru biologi memposisikan dirinya dalam pembelalajaran biologi. Sejalan dengan tujuan yang ingin dicapai, penelitiann ini merupakan peneliti eksplorasi. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah convenience sampling atau captive sampling karena bertujuan untuk menjajagi persepsi guru. Sampel diambil sebanyak 62 orang guru biologi yaitu semua guru peserta yang hadir pada saat peneliti melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di MGMP IPA Biologi SMP di Kota Surakarta. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan angket. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan hanya ada 6 orang guru atau sekitar 9,7% yang menyatakan bahwa biologi mempunyai dimensi proses, produk, dan sikap ilmiah. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemahaman guru biologi terhadap hakikat biologi sebagai sains masih rendah. Guru biologi belum mengoptimalkan perannya sebagai fasilitator dalam mendampingi siswanya dalam menemukan konsep melalaui proses sains.   Kata kunci: konsepsi guru biologi, hakikat sains

Abstract

This research aims to improve students Scientific Writing Skills in X MIA 4 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar through the implementation of Discovery Learning combined Reading Assignment. This research is a class action research which consists of three cycles. Each cycle contains planning, action, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this research is students in X MIA 4 of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar. The data collection of this research are using performance assessment scientific writing skills. The data validation of this research is using triangulation method. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis which is done in three components, they are: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing the conclusion or verification. Target of this research can increase students Scientific Writing Skills to 50% after being given of Discovery Learning combined Reading Assignment. The results show that Scientific Writing Skills of students is increased from precycle, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III. The average of students Scientific Writing Skills students increase from 32.56% to 52.84%. This research conclusion is the implementation of Discovery Learning combined Reading Assignment can improve students Scientific Writing Skills in X MIA 4 class at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar. Keywords: Scientific Writing Skills, Discovery Learning, Reading Assignment

Abstract

This research is aimed to compare the two models; INSTAD supported by mind map visualization and the conventional teachered center in term of their capabilities in improving student’s analytical thinking.Quasy experimental paradism of research is followed with Posttest Only with Non-equivalent Groups Design. The population in this research was all of the student at the XI Science Class in SMA N 4 Surakarta, at the academic year of 2012/2013. The whole population consist of 188 students that are dispersed within 6 classes. Samples are taken in a group of student (cluster sampling method). The data are collected upon the samples taken using the instrument sheet of examining the analytical thingking capability.The result shows that the mean value of the analytical thingking in the experimental group (74,00) is greater than in the comparison one (60,63). The learning in experimental group using INSTAD supported by mind map could practice the student’s cognitive skill so that the student’s analytical thinking competence could develop. It could not be found in the control group which the learning use conventional method. It can be concluded that INSTAD supported mind map visualization is better than conventional teachered center learning.  Keywords: INSTAD, Mind Map, Biological Analytical Thinking Competency

Abstract

The main problem in the cultivation of African catfish is a disease MAS (Motile Aeromonas Septicemia) Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria attack. In addition, other problems that also resulted in the successful cultivation of this fish is the high price of fish feed and the cost of production for the procurement of the feed. Needs to be studied the use of feed raw materials that utilize industrial waste as well as the use of vaccines in controlling disease MAS. This study aims to apply feed made from 3 waste, namely chicken feathers, pulp, and trash fish, then add the vaccine (vaccine feed) and tested in the field. Field test conducted in the village of Bangsa, District of Kebasen, Banyumas. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment consisted of P1 = vaccine feed 10 days; P2 = vaccine feed 15 days, and P3 = no vaccine feed (controls). Feed was given as much as 5% of the weight of fish / day. Research using plastic tarp length x width x height = 80 x 60 x 60 cm. African catfish which used a length of 10-13 cm with a weight of 7.3 to 21.1 g. Fish reared for 8 weeks. Parameters measured were immune response such as antibody titer, weight gain and length, specific growth rate (SGR), as well as survival. Parameters measured were supporting water quality parameters include water temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT test) with a test level of 5%. The results showed that the vaccine could increase the production of antibody titers (P <0.05) compared to controls. The use of artificial feed of chicken feathers, pulp, and trash fish are added the vaccine (vaccine feed) can be applied in the field.Keywords: Aeromonas hydrophila, Banyumas, field test, vaccine feed

Abstract

The science which discussed microbes is a part of the important concept in learning that implemented in curriculum 2013. To achieve national goals where students can critical, this research aims to analyze the critical thinking ability of students on courses of microbiology. Research methods a descriptive method which describe the phenomena of comment on the article through weblog about microbe daily life. There were 41st task had been commented on web. Then from the 41st, the 5th of article with commented were taken by purposive sampling technique to analyses critical response of the writer on comments. The results showed that, the writer able to argue with the reason, to observe and judge observation report, consider the credibility of a source, make deduction and the result of deduction, determine the term and judge the definition of the use of certain criteria (identify assumption).  But, the writers haven't been able to follow problem solving and metacognition, nor the sensitive in feeling and the same rhetoric in discussion and presentation. It was concluded that critical thinking skills students, still within the aspect on clarification to make decisions about belief or action. Keywords: critical thinking, weblog, daily life issue

Abstract

The research aims to improve the student’s ability to finding and relating the concepts by implementing instruction on experimentation sub-phase in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning. The research was a classroom action research with two cycles. The research procedure includes 3 stages: plan, observation and action, and reflection. Research subjects were high school students consisting of 10 male students and 29 female students. Data were collected through observation, interview, documentation, and tests using concept maps. The validity of data used triangulation method. Data analysis used qualitative analysis techniques by data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The result of the research showed that the students’ concept map score on the pre-cycle has a range of 3,13%-21,69% and the mean of concept map score was 10,15% with 56,41% from all students above the mean, the first cycle has a range of 4,14% -69,98% and the mean of concept map score was 43,58% with 64,54% from all students above the mean, and the second cycle has a range of 33,09%-75,29% and the mean of concept map score was 48,55 with 41% from all students above the mean, thus instruction implementation of experimentation in the investigation phase of guided inquiry learning improves the ability to finding and relating concepts based on the increase of students’ concept map score from first cycle to second cycle.

Abstract

Pembelajaran biologi saat ini kurang memperhatikan proses sains dan penerapan pembelajaran bermakna untuk menyikapi perkembangan sains dan teknologi. Selain menyumbangkan manfaat positif bagi masyarakat, perkembangan sains dan teknologi juga mengakibatkan terbentuknya berbagai aktivitas  negatif seperti eksplorasi sumber tambang, pemanfaatan hutan secara bebas, perburuan hewan lindung dan sebagainya. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengetahuan dan sikap siswa yang kokoh dalam mengikuti arus perkembangan sains dan teknologi tetapi masih peduli terhadap kelestarian lingkungan. Tujuan penyelenggaraan pendidikan keunggulan lokal adalah agar siswa mengetahui keunggulan lokal daerah tempat tinggal dan memahami berbagai aspek terkait dengan keunggulan lokal tersebut. Selanjutnya siswa mampu mengolah sekaligus melestarikan keunggulan lokal. Sedangkan karakter berperan sebagai pondasi agar siswa bersikap bijak dalam mendayagunakan keunggulan lokal. Dengan demikian pendidikan keunggulan lokal berbasis karakter berpotensi dalam pendayagunaan dan pelestarian potensi lokal dengan bijak. Peran pendidikan keunggulan lokal berbasis karakter dalam pembelajaran biologi adalah 1) Sebagai sarana pembelajaran kontekstual; 2) Pendayagunaan dan pelestarian keunggulan lokal; dan 3) Mencetak generasi berkarakter. Oleh karena itu diperlukan upaya pengimplementasian pendidikan keunggulan lokal berbasis karakter dalam pembelajaran biologi. Langkah awal adalah menentukan tema dan jenis keunggulan lokal dan menentukan pendidikan karakter yang sesuai.  Selanjutnya mengemas keduanya menjadi perangkat pembelajaran dan mengaplikasikan dalam pembelajaran di sekolah sebagai upaya pemberian bekal bagi siswa untuk terjun ke masyarakat.  Kata kunci: Pendidikan Keunggulan Lokal, Pendidikan Karakter, Pembelajaran Biologi

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan memberikan informasi ilmiah tentang keberadaan Gonystylus spp. di habitat alami dan upaya konservasinya. Penelitian dilaksanakan di dua lokasi tempat tumbuh alami Gonystylus yaitu kawasan hutan alam Bukit Pucung, Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat, Kabupaten Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu dan hutan konservasi flora fauna wilayah kerja PT Sari Bumi Kusuma, Kabupaten Melawi, Kalimantan Barat.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian terdiri dari eksploratif, purposive sampling, dan identifikasi komparatif. Teridentifikasi tiga jenis Gonystylus, dua jenis tumbuh di hutan Bukit Pucung yaitu Gonystylus maingayi Hook.f (benban hitam) dan Gonystylus veluntinus Airy Shaw (kayu minyak), pada ketinggian 700 m dari permukaan laut (dpl.). Satu jenis tumbuh di hutan konservasi flora fauna PT Sari Bumi Kusuma yaitu Gonystylus brunnescens Airy Shaw (garu buaya), pada ketinggian 136 – 197 m dpl. Perbedaan ciri ketiga jenis meliputi: bentuk dan ukuran daun, bulu pada helai daun, tepi daun, pertulangan daun, dan panjang tangkai daun. Populasi ketiga sangat rendah, G. maingayi ditemukan satu pohon berdiameter  batang 30 cm dengan permudaan relatif sedikit. Jenis G. velutinus ada dua pohon berdiameter 26 cm dan 49 cm, pohon berdiameter 49 cm berbuah masak dengan permudaan tingkat semai relatif banyak.  Gonystylus brunnescens  tercatat ada 12 individu permudaan tanpa pohon induk

Abstract

Endophytic Fungi is one of the natural antibacterial sources that has not been studied. Jamblang (Syzygium cumini L.) is a plant of the Myrtaceae family that has many benefits for health. Endophytic shoots located on the leaves and stems of Jamblang can be one of the natural sources of antibacterial. This study was conducted to obtain endophytic fungi isolates from Jamblang stems and leaves, that have antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus. The method used at the stage of endophytic shell isolation from Jamblang stem and leaves is Direct Dilution Plate method. At the antibacterial test stage of Bacillus cereus was used agar block diffusion method. Observations were made of the clear zone formed. Isolate Endophytic Fungi which has a clear zone that is D2 Yellow isolate, D4 White Ash, D4 gray Ash, Black B2, B2 White and B3 Yellow. The largest clear zone is shown by B2 Black isolate with a diameter of 14.75 mm.

Abstract

This study was aimed to explore the age appropriate of callus which forming cell suspension in liquid culture. T. paniculatum leaf explants planted on solid MS medium with the addition of 2 ppm of 2,4 D and 1 ppm kinetin. Callus was on 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks moved separately in 50 mL of liquid MS with 1 ppm 2,4 D and 1 ppm kinetin, agitated at 100 rpm for six days in absolute dark conditions (25 ± 1oC). Dry biomass and total saponins were measured by the Hu method. Callus on 4-week-old callus has the highest biomass (0.16 x 10-3 g), but the highest levels of saponins derived callus at the age of 5 weeks (17.45 ppm). Keywords: biomassa, callus age, total saponin, Talinum paniculatum, cell agregat
