Abstract

This article explores the concept of Islamic theology of peace and interfaith harmony through the perspective of Asghar Ali Engineer, particularly focusing on the essence of Islam, theology of peace, and interreligious harmony. The article employs a literature study method, analyzing and interpreting Engineer's works. Asghar Ali Engineer, an Indian Muslim scholar and intellectual, advocates for peace and pluralism in Islam, emphasizing the importance of Tauhid (the Oneness of God) as a foundation for social justice and peace. His approach integrates the concept of liberation theology, emphasizing the necessity of liberating humanity from oppression and injustice. Engineer interprets Tauhid not merely as a religious ritual but as a social structure that fosters equality and peace. He argues that true peace in Islam involves respecting religious diversity and eliminating coercion in faith. The study affirms that Engineer's theology of peace is relevant in multicultural and multireligious contexts like Indonesia and can offer an alternative approach to resolving interfaith conflicts. Engineer's emphasis on dialogue and understanding among different faiths is crucial for enhancing harmony and reducing societal polarization.AbstrakArtikel ini mengeksplorasi konsep teologi perdamaian Islam dan kerukunan antaragama melalui pemikiran Asghar Ali Engineer, khususnya mengenai esensi Islam, teologi perdamaian, dan kerukunan antar agama. Artikel ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan menganalisis karya-karya Engineer dan menginterpretasikannya. Asghar Ali Engineer, seorang ulama dan intelektual Muslim India, mengadvokasi perdamaian dan pluralisme dalam Islam, menekankan pentingnya Tauhid (Keesaan Allah) sebagai dasar untuk keadilan sosial dan perdamaian. Pendekatannya menggabungkan konsep teologi pembebasan, menekankan pentingnya membebaskan umat manusia dari penindasan dan ketidakadilan. Engineer menafsirkan Tauhid tidak hanya sebagai ritual agama tetapi sebagai struktur sosial yang mendorong kesetaraan dan perdamaian. Ia berargumen bahwa perdamaian sejati dalam Islam melibatkan penghormatan terhadap keragaman agama dan penghapusan paksaan dalam beragama. Kajian ini menegaskan  bahwa teologi perdamaian Engineer relevan dalam konteks multikultural dan multireligius seperti di Indonesia dan dapat menjadi pendekatan alternatif untuk mengatasi konflik antar agama. Penekanan Engineer pada dialog dan pemahaman antar agama yang berbeda sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kerukunan dan mengurangi polarisasi masyarakat.

Abstract

This article focuses on exploring the depth of the teachings of Tawhid in the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW and their influence on individual Islamic practices. Through an analytical approach to related hadiths, this study aims to answer three critical questions: (1) What is the position of Tawhid teachings in the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW?; (2) What criteria for Islam protect an individual's soul and blood from the perspective of the hadiths?; and (3) How do the Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad SAW assess the religious status of a Muslim who commits sins? The findings of this study indicate that Tawhid plays a fundamental role in forming and understanding Islam, where the proclamation of the Shahada is emphasized as the main foundation. This research reveals that faith in Allah SWT is an absolute prerequisite for the acceptance of all other acts of worship. Furthermore, the study observes that while sinful actions do not erase one's Islamic status, the act of shirk (associating partners with Allah) can eliminate that religious status. However, the door of repentance is always open to every Muslim. These findings affirm the importance of the teachings of Tawhid as the core of religious practice.AbstrakArtikel ini berfokus pada eksplorasi kedalaman ajaran tauhid dalam hadis Nabi Muhammad SAW dan pengaruhnya terhadap praktik keislaman individu. Melalui pendekatan analitis terhadap hadis-hadis terkait, studi ini bertujuan menjawab tiga pertanyaan kritis: (1) Apa posisi ajaran tauhid dalam hadis Nabi Muhammad SAW?; (2) Bagaimana kriteria keislaman yang menjaga jiwa dan darah seseorang dalam pandangan hadis?; dan (3) Bagaimana hadis Nabi Muhammad SAW menilai status keberagamaan seorang muslim yang berbuat dosa? Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa tauhid berperan fundamental dalam pembentukan dan pemahaman keislaman, di mana pengucapan syahadat ditekankan sebagai fondasi utama. Penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa keimanan kepada Allah SWT adalah prasyarat mutlak untuk penerimaan seluruh amal ibadah lainnya. Lebih lanjut, studi ini melihat bahwa meskipun perbuatan dosa tidak menghapus status keislaman seseorang, perbuatan syirik dapat mengeliminasi status keberagamaan tersebut. Namun, pintu taubat selalu terbuka bagi setiap muslim. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya ajaran tauhid sebagai pusat dari praktik keagamaan.

Abstract

This article explores the practice of 'Khuruj fi Sabilillah' by Jamaah Tabligh in Desa Perapat Hilir, employing qualitative methods including observations, open-ended interviews with 8 respondents, and documentation. The study identifies two main groups within the Jamaah Tabligh in the village: the Syuro Alami and MS (Maulana Saad) groups, with the former being more dominant. Their activities, deeply rooted in Islamic teachings, encompass various forms of outreach and community development, emphasizing the importance of communal prayer and Islamic observance. The practice of Khuruj fi Sabilillah in Desa Perapat Hilir is characterized by two approaches: first, conducting preaching activities within their localities, utilizing mosques as their base and center for preaching, and second, engaging in external preaching activities, which include jaulah (touring), bayan (sermons), ijtima’ (congregations), ta'lim (religious education), and musyawarah (consultations). The theological values underpinning their activities focus on concepts like faith in Allah, the unity of God, divine predestination, human free will, divine justice, and eschatological beliefs. These values reflect how faith and religious principles influence daily life choices and practices.AbstrakArtikel ini mengkaji praktik 'Khuruj fi Sabilillah' oleh Jamaah Tabligh di Desa Perapat Hilir. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif, dengan data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara terbuka dengan 8 responden, dan dokumentasi. Artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua kelompok jamaah tabligh di Desa yaitu kelompok Syuro Alami dan MS (Maulana Saad), namun kelompok Syuro Alami lebih dominan. Aktivitas mereka berakar pada ajaran Islam, meliputi berbagai bentuk dakwah dan pembangunan komunitas, menyoroti pentingnya shalat berjamaah dan pengamalan Islam. Aktivitas khuruj fi sabilillah jamaah tabligh di Desa Perapat Hilir dengan dua cara, yaitu dengan melakukan dakwah di lokasi tempat jamaah tinggal secara berkelompok dengan menjadikan masjid sebagai tempat tinggal dan pusat berdakwah. Kedua, khuruj fi sabilillah di luar tempat tinggal dengan aktivitas terdiri dari jaulah, bayan/ceramah, ijtima’, ta’lim dan musyawarah. Nilai-nilai teologis yang melandasi aktivitas mereka berfokus pada konsep seperti keimanan kepada Allah, kesatuan Tuhan, takdir ilahi, kehendak bebas manusia, keadilan ilahi, dan keyakinan eskatologis. Nilai-nilai ini mencerminkan bagaimana iman dan prinsip agama mempengaruhi pilihan dan praktik kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the epistemological debate between Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd concerning the concept of the eternity of the world within Islamic philosophy, highlighting the relevance and depth of their thoughts in contemporary Islamic intellectual discourse. Al-Ghazali, through his work "Tahafut Al-Falasifah," critiques the philosophical view that deems the universe as eternal (qadim), emphasizing the importance of revelation and spiritual experience as valid sources of knowledge. Conversely, Ibn Rushd, in "Tahafut Al-Tahafut," defends Aristotle's view on the eternity of the world, illustrating the significance of logic and rationality in understanding the relationship between God, the universe, and humanity. Employing philosophical and historical approaches, this study investigates the methodological differences, arguments, and epistemological conclusions drawn by both thinkers. The findings demonstrate that the dialogue between philosophy and theology in Islam not only enriches the Islamic intellectual tradition but also offers new perspectives in understanding contemporary religious and philosophical issues. This study affirms the significant contributions of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Rushd to advancing Islamic thought, highlighting the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in resolving philosophical and theological dilemmas.AbstrakKajian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskusikan tentang perdebatan epistemologis antara Al-Ghazali dan Ibnu Rusyd mengenai konsep kekekalan alam dalam filsafat Islam, menyoroti relevansi dan kedalaman pemikiran keduanya dalam diskursus intelektual Islam kontemporer. Al-Ghazali, melalui karyanya "Tahafut Al-Falasifah," mengkritik pandangan filsuf yang menyatakan alam sebagai qadim (kekal), menekankan pentingnya wahyu dan pengalaman spiritual sebagai sumber pengetahuan yang valid. Sebaliknya, Ibnu Rusyd dalam "Tahafut Al-Tahafut" membela pandangan Aristoteles tentang kekekalan alam, menunjukkan pentingnya logika dan rasionalitas dalam memahami hubungan antara Tuhan, alam, dan manusia. Melalui pendekatan filosofis dan historis, kajian ini mengeksplorasi perbedaan metodologi, argumentasi, dan kesimpulan epistemologis yang dihasilkan oleh kedua pemikir tersebut. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa dialog antara filsafat dan teologi dalam Islam bukan hanya memperkaya tradisi intelektual Islam, tetapi juga memberikan perspektif baru dalam memahami isu-isu keagamaan dan filosofis kontemporer. Kajian ini menegaskan kontribusi signifikan Al-Ghazali dan Ibnu Rusyd dalam memajukan pemikiran Islam, dengan menyoroti pentingnya pendekatan interdisipliner dalam memecahkan dilema-dilema filosofis dan teologis.

Abstract

This study explores the essence and dimensions of modern humanity from the perspective of the Quran, focusing on the views of Muhammad Iqbal and Plato. In modern society, there is a prevailing notion that religion and science are irreconcilable entities, complicating the understanding of their relationship. This study aims to analyze the views of Iqbal and Plato on the essence and dimensions of modern humanity. The research method employed is a literature review, utilizing primary data from Iqbal's “The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam” and Plato's “The Republic.” Secondary data include books, journals, essays, and other relevant sources. The findings indicate that Iqbal perceives the essence of humanity in its spiritual entity, complemented by intelligence, belief, and morality, while Plato identifies three essential elements of humanity: spirit, reason (intellect), and desire (appetite).

Abstract

Money politics continues to pose a significant challenge in Aceh, notably among populations less acquainted with political processes and facing urgent economic needs. This study aims to explore the influence of religious and ethical values in countering money politics among Acehnese women. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research gathers primary data through interviews and supplements it with secondary data from existing literature. The findings reveal that although financial and material incentives are compelling, they do not invariably secure women's votes. Adherence to religious teachings, ethical considerations, and personal life philosophies significantly influence their decision-making processes. Although women in Aceh are highly susceptible to money politics, they are more likely to decline such offers compared to men, primarily due to their strong religious and moral convictions. To combat money politics effectively, strategies should emphasize political education and economic empowerment, reinforced by robust religious and ethical instruction, aiming to cultivate a more equitable and healthier democratic environment in Aceh.

Abstract

Indonesia, characterized by its rich religious diversity, inevitably experiences variations in religious principles. Engaging in religious practices can sometimes lead to excessive fanaticism, resulting in conflicts and divisions within religious communities. To mitigate such challenges, fostering religious tolerance becomes crucial for promoting harmony. This qualitative research employs a library research method, analyzing secondary data sources to explore the concept of tolerance as interpreted by Muhammad Abduh, an Islamic theologian and reformist, in his work “Tafsir al-Manar.” Abduh’s interpretation aligns with Surah Al-Baqarah verse 256 from the Qur’an, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and the freedom of belief without coercion. Given Indonesia’s context, where Islam is known for its openness, inclusivity, and problem-solving capabilities, studying and embracing the concept of tolerance from “Tafsir al-Manar” is highly relevant. The study concludes that Abduh’s perspectives on religious tolerance can significantly contribute to national harmony and the advancement of humanitarian values in Indonesia.

Abstract

In modern families, Islamic values are increasingly eroded due to the challenges posed by the advancement of information and communication technology. In contemporary Muslim families, wives often work outside the home but still serve as the primary educators within the family. This article aims to elucidate the concept of a harmonious family in the context of modern life, according to Quraish Shihab. The research employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques based on a literature review, examining Quraish Shihab's thoughts through his works from 1996 to 2022, encompassing ten books related to family issues. The findings reveal that Quraish Shihab places significant emphasis on the role of women and family. According to his works, including "Perempuan" and "Pengantin Al-Qur’an," a harmonious family involves prospective spouses getting to know each other before marriage, having a lawful marriage contract in Islam, and ensuring the presence of a guardian during the marriage ceremony. Couples should support each other, exchange roles, and maintain good communication. Shihab also highlights the importance of women's roles in working and education in modern families, advocates for balanced marriage ages, and outlines the conditions under which divorce is permissible in Islam. These principles are highly relevant to the realities faced by modern families today.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the dynamics of emerging understanding regarding Western hermeneutics. Two main questions are addressed: (1) What is meant by hermeneutics? and (2) How has thinking about understanding evolved in Western hermeneutics? The research employs historical and verstehen methods. Two key findings emerge. First, hermeneutics represents an effort or approach to comprehend and interpret various objects of study, ranging from sacred texts, historical writings, scientific literature, culture, to human existence itself. Second, Western hermeneutics encompasses diverse perspectives on understanding. Modern hermeneutics, exemplified by figures like Schleiermacher and Dilthey, tends toward reproductive understanding, aligning with the author’s intent. In contrast, contemporary hermeneutics, associated with Heidegger, Gadamer, and Ricoeur, exhibits a productive tendency, generating new insights through reader engagement. Critical hermeneutics, as articulated by Habermas, views interpretation as a liberating endeavor. Deconstructionist hermeneutics, influenced by Derrida, leans toward radical understanding. Finally, postmodern hermeneutics, championed by thinkers such as Lyotard and Vattimo, rejects metanarratives in interpretation.

Abstract

This research delves into the comprehensive and adaptable concept of Islamic education as articulated by Abuddin Nata. The study aims to explore Abuddin Nata’s biography, his perspectives on Islamic education, and their relevance to contemporary Islamic educational practices. Employing a qualitative approach, specifically library research, this study draws from primary sources—books authored by Abuddin Nata—and secondary sources, including relevant books and journals. The analysis method employed is descriptive-analytical. The findings reveal that Abuddin Nata’s proposed Islamic education aligns with perennialist principles, emphasizing universality, balance, clarity, realism, and dynamism. These principles ensure that Islamic education remains steadfast in its core values, objectives, and distinctive features, despite societal changes. Abuddin Nata’s concept underscores a holistic and comprehensive approach grounded in divine values, making it relevant across different epochs. This study also highlights the alignment of Abuddin Nata's principles with modern educational frameworks, such as character education and competency-based curricula, showcasing their continued relevance.
