Abstract

Writing is a fundamental skill in language learning, yet many EFL students struggle with generating ideas, organizing sentences, and maintaining coherence. This study investigated how a Writing Workshop, combined with translanguaging strategies, could support Taiwanese vocational high school students in developing their English writing skills. Thirteen tenth-grade students participated in six 90- minute sessions on the theme “My Dream Job,” following workshop stages of mini- lesson, independent writing, peer conferring, sharing, and reflection. Translanguaging allowed students to alternate between Mandarin (L1) and English (L2) during brainstorming, drafting, and revising, helping them focus on meaning and creativity before accuracy. Data from drafts, peer feedback, observations, and reflection sheets were analyzed thematically, revealing that translanguaging promoted active participation, idea development, and confidence, while the Writing Workshop provided structure, scaffolding, and collaborative opportunities. Visual tools like thinking bubbles and illustrations enhanced comprehension, vocabulary, and engagement. Students demonstrated creativity, ownership, and confidence in expressing ideas, supported by bilingual peer discussions and teacher guidance. Overall, integrating the Writing Workshop with translanguaging created an inclusive, student-centered environment that fostered both language development and learner confidence, offering a practical framework for enhancing EFL writing in vocational classrooms.

Abstract

In palm oil mill land application systems, the efficiency of slurry transfer from aerobic ponds to plantation channels is highly influenced by pump suction performance. This study aims to analyze the suction capability of the Progressive Cavity Pump based on the relationship between the available Net Positive Suction Head (NPSHa) and the required NPSH (NPSHr). Field measurements and calculations were conducted at pond depths ranging from −1 m to −5 m to evaluate pump performance under negative suction conditions. The results indicate that the NPSHa values consistently exceed the NPSHr value of 2.56 m across all tested depths. Specifically, at −1 m depth, NPSHa reached 8.12 m with a margin of 5.56 m, while at −5 m depth, NPSHa remained at 4.12 m with a margin of 1.56 m. The increasing NPSHa–NPSHr margin with shallower suction depths demonstrates that the PCP effectively avoids cavitation and maintains stable operation even under high negative suction pressure. The findings indicate that the PCP provides reliable and energy-efficient performance for transferring aerobic sludge in palm oil mill LA systems. Consequently, the PCP demonstrates significant potential as a superior and sustainable alternative to centrifugal pumps in organic sludge management and liquid fertilizer distribution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership style and work environment on the performance of neighborhood heads with work motivation as an intervening variable at the Medan Baru Subdistrict Office in Medan City. The research problem is motivated by the differences in performance levels among neighborhood heads, which are suspected to be influenced by the subdistrict head's leadership style, work environment conditions, and individual motivation levels. This study uses a quantitative approach with a population of 64 neighborhood heads in Medan Baru Subdistrict, which was used as a saturated sample. Data analysis techniques use Partial Least Squares (PLS) through the SmartPLS 4 program. The results show that transformational leadership has a positive but insignificant effect on the performance of neighborhood heads, but has a positive and significant effect on work motivation. The work environment has a negative and insignificant effect on performance, but a positive and significant effect on work motivation. Work motivation has a positive and significant effect on the performance of neighborhood heads. In addition, work motivation is proven to significantly mediate the relationship between transformational leadership and the work environment on the performance of neighborhood heads. The R² value shows that 81.7% of the variation in work motivation and 95.1% of the variation in performance can be explained by this research model. The research findings confirm that improving the performance of neighborhood heads can be achieved by strengthening work motivation driven by the transformational leadership style of the sub-district head and a conducive work environment. It is recommended that the Medan Baru Sub-District Office strengthen leadership development and attention to employee potential, improve the comfort of the work environment, and provide rewards that encourage work motivation and responsibility.

Abstract

Profit persistence is a concern for investors and stakeholders in making investment decisions. To attract investors and creditors, companies tend to maintain stable profits each period. However, profit inconsistencies often occur, especially in manufacturing companies due to economic fluctuations, the impact of the pandemic, global inflation and geopolitical tensions. Therefore, investors need to be alert because profits that appear stable could be the result of income smoothing practices. The study was conducted with the aim of seeing the influence of sales volatility, cash flow volatility, and operating cycles on earnings persistence. The approach applied was quantitative by taking samples using non-probability sampling and applying the purposive sampling method, resulting in 14 manufacturing companies in the food and beverage sector listed on the IDX in 2022-2024. The analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression analysis with Eviews 12 software. The study findings prove that sales volatility has no influence on earnings persistence, while cash flow volatility shows a positive and significant effect on earnings persistence. This is different from the operating cycle which shows a negative and significant impact on earnings persistence for manufacturing companies listed on the IDX in 2022-2024. The importance of cash flow management and operating cycle efficiency in maintaining the stability of manufacturing companies' profits, so that they focus more on cash flow management and shortening the operating cycle to support earnings stability.

Abstract

The Government of Indonesia has implemented a tax policy in the form of Final Income Tax (PPh Final) for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as regulated in Government Regulation (PP) No. 55 of 2022. This policy aims to simplify tax administration and increase taxpayer compliance. However, the final rate system raises concerns regarding fiscal justice, particularly for micro-enterprises. This study uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews of micro-entrepreneurs in urban and rural areas to explore their perceptions of the fairness of the final income tax system. The findings show that many micro-businesses feel burdened by fixed tax rates despite declining income, which is perceived as unfair. The study concludes that the implementation of the final tax rate does not fully accommodate the real conditions of micro-enterprises, and further policy evaluation is required.

Abstract

This article analyzes the legality of the sale and purchase of objects inheritance that exceeds the legitimacy of portie and the waiver of absolute rights in Mataram District Court Decision Number 109/Pdt.G/2009/PN.Mtr. This research uses a normative juridical method with a statute approach and a case approach. Normatively, the sale and purchase transaction of inherited objects that violates the legitimate share (absolute share) of straight-line heirs is invalid and can be cancelled, because it is contrary to Article 913 of the Civil Code which protects the absolute rights of heirs, as well as the principle of joint ownership of inherited goods as regulated in Article 833 of the Civil Code. The act of selling without the consent of all heirs also has the potential to be null and void according to Article 1471 of the Civil Code. Nevertheless, the Mataram District Court Decision rejected the lawsuit for cancellation of the gift because the panel of judges considered the gift valid as a legal act while the testator was still alive and had not yet become an inheritance. This approach shows that the court places more emphasis on the legal formalities of gifts than on the protection of legitimate portfolios. The rejection of this lawsuit was deemed inconsistent with substantive justice, but did not eliminate the heirs' substantive rights as legitimate heirs. The plaintiff's defeat was due to the inaccuracy of the legal basis of the lawsuit, in which the plaintiff should have pursued the incorting (reduction of the gift) mechanism specified in Article 916 of the Civil Code, rather than a lawsuit for annulment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Non-Performing Financing (NPF) and risk-based Allowance for Impairment Losses (CKPN) on Contribution Margin in the commercial segment of Bank Syariah ABC. The research employs a mixed methods approach with a Sequential Explanatory design, where quantitative analysis is conducted using multiple linear regression and complemented with qualitative analysis through in-depth interviews. The quantitative results show that both NPF and CKPN have a positive and significant effect on the Contribution Margin. A measured increase in CKPN, calculated based on the Expected Credit Loss (ECL) model, strengthens the long-term financial stability of the bank. Meanwhile, effective management of NPF through restructuring and collateral-based financing mitigates its potential negative impact on the margin. The qualitative findings support the statistical results, revealing that the quality and timeliness of customers' financial reporting are critical factors in the accuracy of ECL estimation. Delays in reporting and the lack of adequate accounting systems among commercial clients present challenges in determining optimal CKPN levels. Therefore, the role of risk management, technological support, and strengthened reporting governance are strategic aspects to enhance risk control in the commercial financing segment. This research contributes to the development of a risk-based provisioning system that not only complies with PSAK 71 and OJK regulations but also supports the sustainability of contribution margin in Islamic financing practices
