Abstract

Siak River is one of the main rivers in Riau Province which is a source of water for people living around it, both for household, fisheries, industrial and transportation purposes. In addition, the Siak River is also a habitat for various aquatic biota, one of which is fish species from the Bagridae family. This study aims to determine the number of fish species of the Bagridae family based on morphological characters in the waters of the Siak River, Riau Province. This research was conducted in December 2022-February 2023. The method used in this research is survey method. Identification of fish samples was carried out at the Zoology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Riau University. The results of the study found a total of 239 individuals from the Bagridae family consisting of 3 genus namely the genus Bagroides, Hemibagrus, Mystus, and 4 species namely Bagroides melapterus (29) individuals, Hemibagrus nemurus (143) individuals, Mystus nigriceps (55) individuals, and Mystus gulio (12) individuals. The most common Bagridae family fish species was Hemibagrus nemurus (60%), while the least common Bagridae family fish species was Mystus gulio (5%).

Abstract

Prapat Tunggal Village was a central hub for gombang fishing gear because, on average, fishermen in this village used gombang fishing gear during their time. Gombang is a traditional fishing tool that was very popular among fishermen in the Bengkalis Strait, Bengkalis Regency. According to the report from the Fisheries and Marine Affairs Agency of Bengkalis Regency in 2013, it was recorded that there were 651 units of gombang fishing gear in operation. Then, there was an increase in 2016 by 71.6%, totaling 909 units. According to field surveys conducted by researchers since 2022, very few fishermen in Bengkalis Regency are now using gombang fishing gear and have switched to pengerih fishing gear. This research was conducted from July 6th to 10th, 2023, in Prapat Tunggal Village, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. The research object was the gombang fishing gear that was formerly commonly used by fishermen in Prapat Tunggal Village for fishing operations. The data obtained have been tabulated in the form of tables and graphs and analyzed statistically descriptively. The factors leading to fishermen switching from gombang to pengerih fishing gear include easier and safer fishing practices, as well as lower costs for purchasing and maintaining the gear. According to data from the Bengkalis Fisheries and Marine Affairs Agency in 2021, there were 413 units of gombang fishing gear in operation, while there were 1,282 units of pengerih fishing gear in operation.

Abstract

One type of legume that is very suitable to be used as a raw material for making Osphronemus gourami feed is the Lamtoro gung leaves (Leucaena leucocephala). Soybeans which are a source of vegetable protein can now be supported by sword beans. The purpose of this study was to examine the quality of artificial feed using Lamtoro gung leaves (Leucaena leucocephala) as a substitute for soybean flour for Osphronemus gourami feed. The method used is the experimental method with RAL using 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments in this study were A (artificial feed without Lamtoro gung leaves (control)), B (2.5% Lamtoro gung leaves in 1 kg artificial feed), C (3% Lamtoro gung leaves in 1 kg artificial feed), and D ( 3.5% Lamtoro gung leaves in 1 kg of artificial feed). Research data were analyzed using non-parametric Kruskal Wallis statistical test and described. The test animal used was the Osphronemus gourami with a size of 8-10 cm with an average weight of 200-300 grams. The results of the physical test showed that the parameters of breaking speed, level of hardness, level of homogeneity and attractiveness were significantly different from the use of Lamtoro gung leaves flour, while the parameters of sinking speed and deliciousness were not significantly different. The results of the proximate chemical test of feed using the best swordfish flour was in feed B, which contained 9.34% Moisture Content, 11.87% Ash Content, Crude Protein (N x 6.25) 29.98%, Crude Fat 6, 84 %, Carbohydrates 39,65% and Crude Fiber 7,13 %.

Abstract

Plankton as a basic component in the structure of life in the waters, spesifically as water producers can be used as one of the parameters in monitoring the quality of the aquatic environment. The existence of aquatic tourism activities and quantitative and qualitative plankton can be used to determine the fertility of a waters, by measuring the abundance and distribution of plankton found at each depth. The research station is divided into three sites, site A is the source of the entry and exit of sea water, site B is in the middle of the lake, and site C is located close to the freshwater spring. Based on the results of research in the waters of Danau Dua Rasa Labuan Cermin, 8 classes of plankton were obtained with 24 species, there are the Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Chrysophyceae, Dinophyceae, Mastigophora, Crustacea classes. Sarcodina and Rotatoria. The Danau Dua Rasa Labuan Cermin are included in the Mesotrophic waters group. Because the abundance value reaches 9,513 ind/L, in other words, Labuan Cermin waters have a moderate fertility level that can support the breeding and survival of aquatic organism and the continuity of a good photosynthesis process.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the Mandeh marine tourist ship in Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province. The method used was a survey method by taking 110 tourist respondents and 68 tourist boat business owners followed by classification and the Chi square test. The research results illustrate that tourist boats in the Mandeh marine tourism area come from 5 bases, namely Pangkalan Nagari Mandeh, Pangkalan Nagari Sungai Nyalo, Pangkalan Randang Lokan, Pangkalan TIC and Pangkalan TPI Carocok. The minimum initial investment in a tourist boat business is IDR 25,000,000 with the highest being IDR 75,000,000. The ship safety equipment owned by tourist ships is a buoy / life jacket. The numbers do not differ too much, namely from 11 to 16 per ship. 65% of ship owners promote tourist ships independently without using agent services. Furthermore, there are 16% of ship owners who use agent services to promote ships and as many as 19% of ship owners do not carry out promotions. Operational costs incurred by ship owners for 1 trip vary widely, starting from Rp. 200,000 to Rp. 450,000. Tourist boats in the Mandeh marine ecotourism area have 3 main routes with different prices. Tourists who come to visit the Mandeh marine ecotourism area come from various regions, both from West Sumatra Province and from outside West Sumatra. Most tourists from West Sumatra Province come from Padang City.

Abstract

Puntius schawanefeldii is one of common fish in the Koto Panjang Dam. This fish commonly present around the floating cage culture area. Small P. schawanefeldii sometimes enter the culture cages and become trapped in the cages as they grew up. Farmers used to remove the trapped fish and put them in the cage around the cage culture area. The net caged P. schawanefeldii were not given any food, but they were able to grow. To understand the feed consumed by the caged fish and compare it with the free living fish, a study on the stomach content analysis of the caged and free living fish has been conducted on September 2022. Samplings were conducted 2 times, once/2 weeks and the stomach contents was analyzed using a volumetric method. There were 139 fishes captured. The stomach 104 fishes were full or partly full, while the stomach content of other 35 fishes were less than 25% and could not be analyzed. Results shown the stomach content of the caged and free living fish were similar, there were algae and pellets (they could not be separated), fish feed pellet remains and fish tissue remains. The Preponderance Index of each food type present in the caged fish are pellets 71.24%, mixed algae and pellets 26.76%  and fish tissue remains 2.00%, while those of the free living fish are  pellets 16.28%, mixed  algae and pellets 70.63%, and fish tissue remains 11.44%. Data obtained in this research indicate that the caged fish receive fish feed pellets that spilled out from the culture floating nets in the surrounding area.
