Abstract

Research utilizing the geomagnetic method was conducted to identify the potential distribution of subsurface manganese in the Oenesu area, West Kupang District, Kupang Regency. Data comprising total magnetic field and diurnal variation measurements were acquired using a G-856AX Proton Precession Magnetometer via the looping method across 119 measurement points spaced at 35 meter intervals. The data underwent diurnal and IGRF corrections, upward continuation, 2D modeling and interpretation. The interpretation of magnetic anomalies revealed high anomaly values 40 nT to 240 nT, moderate anomalies -60 nT to 40 nT, and low anomalies -160 nT to -60 nT. Modeling results indicate a subsurface lithology composed of limestone susceptibility 0.001200 SI to 0.080327 SI, claystone susceptibility 0.000380 SI to 0.008349 SI, and sandstone susceptibility 0.000001 SI to 0.000999 SI. Correlating these indications with the magnetic anomalies and the typical geological associations of manganese suggests that the manganese deposits are likely associated with the limestone and claystone units. Integrating the modeling results from three cross-sections with the magnetic anomaly values indicates that the potential manganese distribution is predominantly located in the southern, southeastern, and northern parts of the study area, at depths ranging from 9.55 m to 107.28 m.

Abstract

Accurate measurement of microbubble size is an essential step in evaluating the performance of corona-discharge-based ozone systems because bubble diameter distribution strongly influences interfacial area and mass transfer efficiency. This study aimed to develop a Python-based application for automatic microbubble diameter analysis using digital image segmentation. The program was developed by integrating OpenCV, NumPy, Pillow, Tkinter, and Matplotlib to support image loading, region-of-interest selection, preprocessing, thresholding, contour detection, visualization, and bubble diameter calculation. Size calibration was performed using a field-of-view approach based on camera sensor parameters and lens magnification to determine the pixel-to-micrometer conversion factor. Bubble diameter was calculated using the equivalent circular diameter derived from the segmented contour area. The developed application successfully distinguished bubble populations generated by two ozone diffusers, producing average diameters of 4.09  for the C-50 diffuser and 3.37  for the C-80 diffuser. These results demonstrate that the program can automatically detect microbubbles and provide systematic size distribution for laboratory-scale image analysis. The proposed application offers a practical, transparent, and open-source solution for rapid microbubble diameter measurement and has potential for broader application in gas–liquid bubble image analysis.

Abstract

This study develops a Physics-Informed K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) approach to reconstruct projectile motion based on experimental data using Tracker video analysis and Python. This study is motivated by the limitations of idealized physical models in representing real experimental conditions, which are influenced by air resistance, measurement noise, and data uncertainty. The research method comprises three main stages: acquisition of parabolic motion data using Tracker, theoretical modeling based on kinematic equations, and trajectory reconstruction using KNN. The results show that Physics-Informed KNN produces trajectories that are closer to the observed data compared to pure physics models. Horizontal motion exhibits the characteristics of uniform linear motion (ULM), while vertical motion forms a parabolic pattern consistent with uniformly accelerated linear motion (UALM). Error analysis indicates that the best performance is achieved at K = 2 with the minimum RMSE value. Based on the experimental dataset analyzed, the integration of machine learning and physical principles shows potential for improving the accuracy of dynamic system reconstruction under realistic experimental conditions.

Abstract

This study aimed to profile students' conceptual understanding and identify misconceptions on sound waves through PhET Sound Waves simulation-based worksheets (LKPD). A quantitative descriptive method was employed involving 36 eleventh-grade students divided into nine groups. Data were collected from students' worksheet responses and analyzed using four conceptual understanding indicators adapted from Anderson and Krathwohl: explaining, interpreting, applying, and connecting. The results showed that the applying indicator achieved the highest performance (100%), followed by interpreting (88.9%), connecting (66.7%), and explaining (44.4%). The findings revealed that students demonstrated strong procedural and interpretative abilities but experienced difficulties in explaining underlying physical concepts. The most common misconception was the belief that the speed of sound depends on frequency. This misconception was associated with inaccuracies in measuring wavelength using the virtual simulation, which led students to misinterpret fluctuations in calculated sound speed. These findings indicate that PhET-based worksheets effectively support conceptual interpretation and mathematical application; however, teacher guidance during reflection remains necessary to prevent misconceptions and strengthen conceptual understanding.

Abstract

Global environmental crises, including global warming and climate change, demand a radical reorientation in science education to foster ecological awareness. This study aims to examine the integration of renewable energy issues within the "Forms and Changes of Energy" topic as a pedagogical strategy to improve students' environmental literacy and cognitive competence. Employing a systematic literature review method, this study analyzes various empirical findings related to the implementation of active learning models and digital technology media. The synthesis demonstrates that integrating renewable energy issues through active learning models, specifically Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with STEM/STEAM, Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI), and the SETS approach, significantly enhances students' green behavior and ecological consciousness. Furthermore, interactive digital instruments, such as PhET simulations and Google Sites, effectively visualize abstract concepts, increase average cognitive scores (from 55.3 to 78.7), and stimulate Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Additionally, combining PjBL with differentiated learning yields a high increase in climate change awareness, evidenced by an N-gain score of 0.70. This study concludes that a contextual and prudent transformation of physics education can effectively convert theoretical comprehension into concrete sustainable actions.

Abstract

Air pollution caused by cigarette smoke and vehicle emissions poses serious health risks and provides a meaningful context for project-based learning. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) through the development of an activated carbon- and Arduino-based air filter and to examine its contribution to students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. A qualitative descriptive case study was conducted following engineering-based PjBL stages, including problem identification, prototype construction, testing, redesign, and product presentation. Data were collected using PjBL implementation observation sheets, product quality assessment rubrics, and oral communication rubrics. Students developed a prototype incorporating activated carbon, an MQ-135 air quality sensor, a DC fan, and an Arduino Uno. Initial testing revealed limitations in sensor stability, filtration efficiency, and structural strength. These issues were addressed through iterative redesign by improving the filter material, reinforcing the frame, and adding a magnetic locking mechanism. The final prototype demonstrated improved performance, stability, and design quality. Descriptive statistics indicated that PjBL was effectively implemented and promoted students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills through authentic, context-based engineering experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' misconceptions on the static fluid concept using a Four-Tier Diagnostic Test instrument. Static fluid material was chosen because of its complex characteristics and potential to cause misconceptions, particularly in the sub-concepts of hydrostatic pressure, Pascal's law, and Archimedes' principle. This study used a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The subjects were 68 eleventh-grade students from a public senior high school in Garut Regency, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of a four-tier diagnostic test comprising 15 multiple-choice items. The data obtained were analyzed based on the combination of students' answers at each tier to identify categories of conceptual understanding, misconception, lack of understanding, and partial understanding. The results showed that overall, 37.74% of students experienced misconceptions, 37.65% understood the concept, 14.31% did not understand the concept, and 10.30% partially understood the concept. At the sub-concept level, the highest misconception was found in Pascal's law (52.20%), followed by Archimedes' principle (41.47%) and hydrostatic pressure (25%). The highest item-level misconception occurred in item number 7 concerning the lifting force on a piston, with a percentage of 73.53%. These results indicate the need for more serious efforts in identifying and remediating student misconceptions, as well as the importance of applying in-depth diagnostic instruments such as the Four-Tier Diagnostic Test in physics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement and effectiveness of students' conceptual understanding of dynamic electricity through the implementation of an Augmented Reality (AR) Laboratory application. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method was used, employing a non-equivalent control group design. The participants were two tenth-grade classes at SMK Negeri 2 Garut, consisting of an experimental class (n = 26) taught using the AR Laboratory application and a control class (n = 24) taught using a conventional problem-solving method. The research instrument consisted of 12 validated and reliable essay items measuring conceptual understanding indicators (interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, explaining, and inferring). The mean pretest score was 8.88 for the control class and approximately 16.2 for the experimental class, while the mean posttest score increased to 22.92 for the control class and 29.12 for the experimental class. Because the data were normally distributed but not homogeneous, hypothesis testing was carried out using an independent samples t-test with equal variances not assumed, which yielded a significance value (2-tailed) of less than 0.001, indicating a significant difference between the two groups. The N-Gain analysis showed a mean score of 0.5433 (moderate category) for the experimental class and 0.4577 (moderate category) for the control class. The Cohen's d effect size was 0.990, categorized as moderate, indicating that 83.9% of the experimental group scored above the control group's average. These findings indicate that the implementation of the AR Laboratory application has a significant effect and provides a greater improvement in students' conceptual understanding of dynamic electricity compared to conventional learning.
