Abstract

This study aims to experimentally verify Hooke’s Law and examine the elastic characteristics of a metal spring within its elastic region. A laboratory experimental method with a descriptive quantitative approach was employed by applying incremental loads of 50–80 g, where each load was measured through three repeated trials (n = 3) to improve data reliability. The resulting elongation was analyzed using linear regression between applied force and elongation. The results show a strong linear relationship, yielding an average spring constant of approximately 2.9 N/m, with the regression equation and a coefficient of determination close to 1.00, indicating high linearity. Measurement uncertainties arose primarily from instrument resolution (±0.5 mm) and possible parallax errors; however, these variations remained within acceptable limits and did not significantly affect the linear trend. These findings confirm that the spring operated within its elastic region and empirically support Hooke’s Law. The study also highlights the pedagogical value of experimental activities in enhancing students’ understanding of elasticity concepts and awareness of measurement uncertainty.

Abstract

The research is aim to determine the use of PhET simulation in physics learning on direct current (DC) electrical circuits through the design and analysis of a simple power bank with the help of PhET simulation. The experiment was conducted using the Circuit Construction Kit: DC module to build a circuit consisting of an electrical power source (battery), a load (resistor), a switch, and a current and voltage measuring instrument. With variations in resistance values, the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance was observed based on Ohm's Law. Through this activity, students can understand the basic concepts of direct current, electrical measurements, and the simple working principle of a power bank. PhET simulation has proven effective as an interactive learning medium because it facilitates visualization of current flow and helps analyze results without the need for physical laboratory equipment.   Keywords: DC, power bank,, Ohm law, PhET, interractive learning

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of a cookbook-based practicum method as an experimental technique in physics learning, particularly for the concept of liquid surface tension, and to examine its limitations related to the effects of temperature and rope length. The experiment was conducted at the Integrated Laboratory of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung using simple materials such as soapy water, yarn, chopsticks, and a thermometer. This study examines the relationship between temperature and surface tension, which is theoretically inversely proportional. However, the experimental results show that surface tension increases with increasing temperature, indicating a direct relationship. This discrepancy between experimental results and theory occurs due to a decrease in liquid temperature during the practicum process, where the initial temperature of the hot water at  72°C decreased to near room temperature (22°C) by the end of the experiment, thereby affecting the measured surface tension values. The study also shows that variations in rope length affect the radius and surface tension of the liquid, indicating a shift in the distribution of intermolecular forces at the surface. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of monitoring experimental conditions and the need for a laboratory approach that is both more accurate and practical for educational purposes. These findings further emphasize that the cookbook-based practicum method is effective in supporting qualitative understanding of surface tension concepts, but has limitations in quantitative accuracy. Therefore, this study encourages the development of more structured and controlled simple practicum guidelines to support physics learning in educational laboratories.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model combined with E-Modules in improving high school students' science literacy in the subject of sound and light waves. The background to this study is the low level of science literacy among Indonesian students according to the PISA report, which ranks Indonesia at the bottom. PBL was chosen because it emphasises real-world problem solving, thereby encouraging active engagement, scientific reasoning, and collaborative skills. E-Modules are used as interactive, flexible, and independent learning-supporting digital teaching materials. This research sample consisted of 60 Grade XI students from Mitra Inalum Private High School, comprising 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The results of the analysis show that the application of PBL assisted by E-Modules has a significant effect on improving science literacy, as evidenced by the Independent Sample T-Test at α = 0.05 with a 2-tailed sig. of 0.000 and N-Gain value of 0.70 for the experimental class and 0.65 for the control class, indicating a higher increase in science literacy in the experimental class. In addition, 84.41% of students responded positively to the use of E-Modules. Thus, the integration of PBL and E-Modules is effective as a 21st-century physics learning strategy.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between fall height (h) and the square of the fall time (t²) and estimates the local gravitational acceleration (g) at three locations in Muaro Jambi (Mendalo, Sungai Duren, Muaro Pijoan). The experiment was conducted by dropping a spherical ball from three heights (0.80 m; 1.00 m; 1.50 m) and recording the fall time repeatedly using a digital stopwatch. A graphical analysis of h versus t² was applied using linear regression without an intercept (regression through the origin) so that g = 2·slope. The results show a consistent quadratic pattern (h ∝ t²), but the numerical estimate of g deviates from the theoretical value (≈ 9.81 m/s²). The causes of the deviation are analyzed and are dominated by uncertainty in the time measurement (human response to the stopwatch) as well as contributions from air resistance and height measurement errors. Due to the limited number of height points (n = 3) and the use of manual time measurement, these results are insufficient to assess small geographic variations in g. This study recommends the use of automatic timing sensors (e.g. Phyphox, mechanical switch), variations in object diameter, and increasing the number of height points for further studies.

Abstract

Groundwater quality is crucial for health, particularly for drinking water, with physical parameters such as Electrical Conductivity (EC) and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) as key indicators. This study aims to examine the physical quality of groundwater sources in several locations on Ambon Island and identify their potential as contextual physics lab teaching materials. The method used was an experiment, with groundwater samples taken from Nusaniwe District (urban) and Salahutu District (rural), as well as bottled drinking water (AMDK) samples as a comparison. EC and TDS measurements were conducted using a calibrated EC/TDS meter, following standard procedures and three repetitions. The results showed that all groundwater samples had EC values below 400 µS/cm and TDS values below 300 mg/L, making them suitable for drinking water based on Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023 and WHO guidelines. The Salahutu groundwater sample showed the best quality with an EC of 101.33 µS/cm and a TDS of 49.67 mg/L, while the Nusaniwe sample had higher values due to anthropogenic activity. The relationship between EC and TDS was a very strong linear (R² = 0.9987) with a regression equation of y = 0.5109x – 1.487. In conclusion, the groundwater samples on Ambon Island meet the physical requirements for drinking water, and the varying EC-TDS data have the potential to be developed into teaching materials for physics labs, particularly for topics such as electrical conductivity of solutions, ion mobility, linear regression, and contextual data analysis skills.

Abstract

Learning about electrical circuits in vocational high schools is often hindered by students’ limited ability to apply concepts to circuit simulations and analysis. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Proteus application in improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes at SMKN 1 Jiwan. This study employed a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. The test instrument consisted of 10 multiple-choice items (valid and reliable) that measured students’ understanding of series, parallel, and mixed circuit concepts, as well as their ability to analyze and simulate electrical circuits. The final posttest score was an integration of the written test results and a 5-minute timed case study practical test. The data were analyzed using the N-Gain test. The results showed that the use of the Proteus application effectively improved cognitive learning outcomes, with an N-Gain value of 0.5076 (moderate category). Analysis by content indicator revealed the highest improvement in the mixed circuit material, while the lowest improvement occurred in the series circuit material, which was influenced by the ceiling effect. These findings confirm that the Proteus application is an interactive learning medium capable of facilitating concrete visualization for vocational high school students

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of local wisdom in physics learning and its contribution to the development of 21st-century skills through a thematic conceptual review approach. The study employed a systematic literature review method by analyzing national and international scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis process was conducted through stages of identification, selection, categorization, and thematic synthesis of 20 articles relevant to local wisdom-based physics learning. The findings indicate that the integration of local wisdom enhances students’ understanding of physics concepts, scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, creativity, and learning motivation through contextual and meaningful learning processes. In addition, local wisdom functions as a bridge between scientific concepts and students’ real-life experiences, making learning more relevant to their social and cultural environments. The review also reveals that the effectiveness of local wisdom-based learning is influenced by instructional design, teacher competence, and the availability of contextual teaching materials. However, the implementation in previous studies remains partial and has not been systematically integrated. Therefore, a more comprehensive, applicable, and systematically structured physics learning model based on local wisdom is needed to support the development of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Weak conceptual understanding of particle dynamics and the lack of accommodation for students' diverse learning styles are fundamental problems in Classical Mechanics lectures. This mixed-methods study with an explanatory sequential design aimed to analyze the level of conceptual understanding, learning style profiles, and the need for a differentiated instruction strategy based on multi-representation on the topic of 1-Dimensional Particle Dynamics. The subjects were 217 students from two study programs in East Java, from whom 20 students were purposively selected for open-ended questionnaires and interviews. The results showed a low average conceptual understanding score (42.52) with large variation (SD = 19.70), and persistent conceptual difficulties were identified through interviews, particularly in understanding forces, free-body diagrams, and kinematic graphs. The learning style profile revealed a balance between unimodal (50.24%, dominated by visual at 21.20%) and multimodal (49.76%). Students reported the greatest difficulties in understanding forces and free-body diagrams (90%) and graph interpretation (85%). The most preferred representational formats were animation/simulation (40%) and live demonstration (30%). Eighty percent of students expected multi-format learning materials, and students with low scores specifically requested individual feedback. These findings collectively indicate that a differentiated instruction strategy integrating multi-representation is needed, with variation in representational formats, active participation opportunities, and connections to students' concrete everyday experiences as its key design principles.
