Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and the STEM approach in biology education. A systematic and descriptive literature review was conducted on articles published from 2016 to 2024 obtained from Google Scholar, SINTA, and Scopus. Articles were selected based on the relevance of the title, abstract, and content. The analyzed data included learning design, integration strategies, educational level, and learning outcomes. Thematic narrative analysis was used. The results from ten reviewed articles indicate that PjBL-STEM integration enhances critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and biology concept mastery. It also fosters students’ collaboration, responsibility, and communication. However, challenges such as teacher readiness and limited resources were found. Teacher training and adequate support are necessary to optimize its implementation.

Abstract

Kepok banana waste, which contains essential NPK nutrients, has the potential to enhance plant growth. This study investigated the effects of combining liquid organic fertilizer (POC) derived from Kepok banana waste with manure on the growth of melon plants (Cucumis melo L.), and identified the optimal dosage for growth performance. The outcomes of this research were further developed into a contextual learning resource in the form of student worksheets for biology education. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications over a two-month period. Growth parameters observed included the number of branches, the number of flowers, and fresh fruit weight. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test. Results showed significant effects of the POC–manure combination across all parameters: number of branches (Hhit = 27.55 > χ²0.95;3 = 7.81), number of flowers (Hhit = 26.5 > χ²0.95;3 = 7.81), and fresh fruit weight (Hhit = 20.58 > χ²0.95;3 = 7.81). The best treatment for enhancing branch and flower production was P4, whereas P2 produced the greatest fruit weight. These findings confirm that POC from Kepok banana waste, when combined with manure, significantly improves melon plant growth. Furthermore, the study highlights the educational potential of integrating research results into biology learning through student worksheets, particularly for Grade XII on the topic of plant growth and development.

Abstract

This study aimed to (1) examine the differences in growth and yield of edamame soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) under varying vermiwash dosages, (2) identify the dosage that produces the best growth and yield, and (3) evaluate the feasibility of developing a Student Worksheet (LKPD) as a biology learning resource. The research employed an experimental method using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments: P1 (100 mL vermiwash), P2 (300 mL), P3 (500 mL), and P4 (700 mL), each replicated five times. Observed parameters included plant height (cm), number of leaves, and fresh weight of edamame soybeans (g). Based on the analysis test, the result Fhit>Fdaf indicates that the application of different vermiwash doses in each treatment gives different results on the growth and production of edamame soybeans. The BNJ follow-up test and Dunn's Post Hoc test show that the best growth and production of edamame soybeans is in treatment 4 (700 mL of vermiwash). The results of this study can be used as a biology learning resource on conventional biotechnology material for high school/Islamic high school Grade X in the form of a Student Worksheet, with data obtained from expert validation, showing an average material validation score of 88.57% and a design validation score of 90%.
