Abstract

This research offers and overview of the main developments in the field of Sociolinguistic studies. The education should be equal in both gender, no matter the background is. This paper examine the characteristics and the factors of inhibiting the gender equality in educational literacy in Langsa. The purpose of this research are: to find out how are the characteristics of gender equality in educational literacy in Langsa and to find out what are the factors that could inhibit gender equality in educational literacy. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods, namely observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research are twenty parents (ten men and ten women) in Langsa. The research instruments were questions, recording equipment and documentation. The procedure for collecting data is library research, conducting interviews, voice recorders and concluding. The results of this research are the characteristics of gender equality in educational literacy and the factors could inhibit the gender equality in educational literacy in Langsa. Abstract

This research aimed to find out of reward and punishment used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom and to find out reward and punishment implementation by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research was analyzed kinds of reward and punishment in efl classroom and the implementation of reward and punishment. The sample of this research is one of the English Teacher at SMPN 2 Kejuruan Muda and focus on eight grades (VIII-1) Classroom. And the final result of this research is kinds of reward that used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom is verbal reward, non verbal reward, reward with come close to students, reward with touch, gifth, and reward with fun activities. Punishment that used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom is preventive punishment and repressive punishment. Implementation of reward and punishment in English Foreign Language classroom that used by teacher is: First, teacher prepared the lesson material to gives for students. Second, teacher gives an explanation of the lesson material to students. Third, in the middle of the explanation of the material the teacher giving the practice questions in accordance with the subject matter given. Fourth, for students who are active in class, and answer correctly get certain reward according to those given by the teacher. The teacher only gives four ways in implementing reward and punishment in efl classroom, but the teacher does not implement the method five and six. Abstract

This study aimed to describe about the factors cause students’ anxiety in speaking English and the students strategies to cope the anxiety in speaking English in Class X of SMAN 5 Langsa of 2019-2020 year as participants. Any 21 students as participants that researcher take by purposive sampling. Participants in this study just 3 students in every class.The Method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data were through structured Interviews and classroom observations. The data were in the interview transcripts. The result of this study describe three factors that cause students’ anxiety in speaking English. The first factors is Self Perception of students that always feel English is difficulty to Learn and speak. The second factor is Class Condition of Performance make students got anxiety when they speak in front of friends and teacher. The third factor in students’ Anxiety in speaking English is Fear of Making Mistakes. The result of this study found that there are three strategies that students used to cope the anxiety in speaking English. The first strategies is Preparation, eight students did preparation always felt better before speaking English. The second is Positive thinking, there are seven participants think that positive thinking can cope the anxiety in speaking English. The last strategies is Relaxation, as many as five students take this strategies if students feel anxiety and failed speaking english. Keywords: Anxiety, Speaking

Abstract

The background of this study is by the world of education that develops, demand every induvidual who in the circle of globalization education to paticipate in learning English. So that English is an important to learn.And to master an English, must be the interesting in self. From explanation above,the researcher interesting to take the title "A STUDY OF TEENAGERS INTEREST IN LEARNING ENGLISH IN LANGSA. The purpose of this study is to find out how the teenagers interestand what are the factor of teenagers interest influence in learning Englis in Gp.Blang 18-21 years old and totaly 20 respondents. This study were used mix method. The Instrument were used questionnaire and interview. The result of this study indicate of teenagers interest in learning english in Langsa, Gp. Blang is diffused. Very low categoriezed 0 people (0%), low categorized are 5 people (25%), medium categorized 6 people (30%), high categorized are 7 people (35%) and very high categorized 2 people (10%). And then 3 of 9 teenagers keep interesting without the factors of family encouragement, facilities infrastructure, and environment encouragement. Keywords: Interesting, Learning, English

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: To find out how processelementary students in SDN 14 langsa choosing languagein the telling story through picture and their parents to find out what factors that influencing their language choice. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods, namely observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. The subjects of this research are twenty students and twenty parents in Langsa. The research instruments were picture, questions, recording equipment and documentation. The procedure for collecting data is library research, conducting interviews, voice recorders and concluding. The result of this research are elementary students in SDN 14 Langsa mostly choosing indonesia language in telling the story in front of the class in otherway same as their parents opportunities in the environment. And factors that influence the use of the term language choice in elementary students are theirparents language use in social status practice.

Abstract

This study aims to improve English language skills by using Youtube. The research sample is students of class XI Science 1 consisting of 27 students. The stages of the research consisted of Planning, Implementation, Observation and Reflection. The results showed an increase in English proficiency, this was seen in the first cycle only 20 students who had grades above the KKM with an average grade of 82.7 and classical completeness of 74.07%. In cycle II there were 24 students who had grades above the KKM with the average value of students increasing to 86.33 with a classical completeness of 88.88%.

Abstract

Abstract The novel "Memoirs of a Geisha" is the story of a woman who is educated, thoughtful, strong, and, most importantly, capable of true love. A literary work that contains many characters with different personalities which can be used as a reference in examining the personalities of several characters by using Gordon Allport's personality structure theory. This research is descriptive qualitative research with the data source of the novel “Memoirs of a Geisha” by Arthur Golden using codification. The technique of collecting data uses a literature study with four steps, namely reading, identifying, clarifying, and taking notes. In this study, there are three components in analyzing data, namely the data reduction, data display, and verification. The results of this study can be formulated that several figures have different traits, habits, and attitudes. Traits, habits, and attitudes are genetic and learning factors and each may precede or guide behavior. Keywords: Traits, Habits, and Attitudes of the main characters.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSeptria Arima, 2315.091. Students Perception on the Teacher’s Nonverbal Communication at the Seventh Grade Students of MTsS Nagari Binjai Pasaman. A thesis, English Educational Department, State Islamic Institute Bukittinggi, Academic Year 2019/2020The research was due to several problems found in the field: the teacher did not usually used nonverbal communication in English classroom. It is indicated by the English teacher when the researcher did the preliminary research when teaching learning process in this class. Besides, the students were difficult to understand with teacher’s nonverbal communication. It is indicated when the teacher try to silent to make the students pay attention but the fact some of students still make noise and not pay attention to the teacher in this class. The research is aimed to find out students perception on the teacher’s nonverbal communication in English class of MTsS Nagari Binjai Pasaman.The research used descriptive quantitative research by using questionnaire as an instrument. The researcher used total sampling technique because the sample less one hundred. The sample of this research was VII a and VII b of MTsS Nagari Binjai Pasaman that were 66 students as sample. The data was collected by distributed a questionnaire to each others. In addition, the analyzing of the data was done by identifying researcher respond, analyzed the data and made conclusion with level rating quality. The result of the research: first students perception on teacher’s gesture with 34,09% in rating quality of good. Second, students perception on teacher’s facial expression with 36,4% in rating quality of good. Third, students perception on teacher’s eye contact with 27,7% in rating quality of moderate. Fourth, students perception on teacher’s pitch with 18,45% in rating quality of poor. Fifth, students perception on teacher’s rate with 36,9% in rating quality of good. Sixth, students perception on teacher’s pause with 36,4% in rating quality of good. Seventh, students perception on the teacher’s friendship and warmth with 31,85% in rating quality of good. It can be concluded that students tend to have good enough perception on the teacher’s nonverbal communication in English classroom at the seventh grade students of MTsS Nagari Binjai Pasaman.

Abstract

This study deals with “language choice used by children in Acehnese family ”. The aims of this research is : ( 1 ) to find out what the language choice used by children in Acehnese family and ( 2 ) to find out what factors that influences language choice used by children in Acehnese family. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of This research is the children in Acehnese family. Aged, ( 9- 11 years ) 25children in this research, at Kapai Baro village, Darul Aman sub-district. From the results of the study this research do observations in four domains of language used ,(1) Family ,(2)Friendship,(3) Religion and (4) Education. This research findings three major factors that influence language choice used children in the Acehnese family , (1)educational, (2)social status, and (3)place. It was suggested by the researcher hope the reader understands and to another researcher, this research can be useful to be the literature on the same field.

Abstract

The availability of instructional materials is essential to support teaching and learning activity. In Indonesia, textbook become the popular instructional materials used in English Language Teaching (ELT). Unfortunately, textbooks are sometimes developed for commercial purposes only. Further, the textbooks are not always appropriate with the condition of the classroom. Thus, assessing textbooks become necessary to be done to know their values. This study is intended to know whether the materials in the English textbook for second grade student senior high school compatible with tomlinson’s (2011) principles. The researcher applies qualitative content analysis as the research design. The finding of this study shows that the English textbook for second grade student senior high school fulfils 15 criteria or 93,75% of tomlinson’s principles. The textbook can be a useful source of learning materials and help students, especially EFL students, in learning English. keywords : English textbook, compatibility, Tomlinson’s principles
