Abstract

This research aims to find out the levels and the factors of code mixing that appear on Analisa’s video YouTube channel. A qualitative method was used in this researchby employingadocument analysiswhich focused on analyzing the levels of code mixing defined by Suwito (1988) and the factors of code mixing argued by Suandi (2014). The data were collected from 5 session videos in Analisa’s video YouTube channel. Through data analysis, the results show that there are some levels of code mixing appear on Analisa’s video YouTube channel. They are word level, phrase level, clause level, baster level, and repetition word level. Then, there are some factors of code mixing appear on Analisa’s video YouTube channel. They are popular term factor, the speaker and speaker character factor, function and aim factor,main topic factor, and prestigious factor.It is hoped that the result of this study is useful to everyone who wants to conduct the study about code mixing.

Abstract

The study aims to know whether or not the application of kindling strategy is effective to improve students’ reading skill at the tenth grader of SMK. The population of this study was 538 students with the number of sample 40 students in class X.1. The research was experimental research in which only one class which was treated using the technique. The research instrument was reading test. the test was valid because it had content validity. To answer the hypothesis the data was scored by using T-test formula to see whether not the application of Kindling strategy gives significant effect in reading.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the types of maxim violations used by characters. The investigation concerns the kinds of maxim violations and the context of the situation in the movie. This study aims to analyze the types of maxim violations by using the theory of Grice (1975). This study applied the descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data collected by some steps; the first are by watching the movie while reading the subtitle, then reading the script of the movie again and taking a note of the conversation that violated in the movie. The findings showed four types of maxim violations used by the characters. The study results showed that the types of maxim violations found in the movie are 24 data. The dominant maxim violation uttered by the characters in this movie is maxim quality. The finding shows that the most dominant maxim violation used by the character is a violation of maxim quality. The characters in the movie, when they make the conversation, each character sometimes answer it by giving untruth information or lies.

Abstract

This study aims analyze the interference of the Phonology of the Balinese in Pangsan village towards English. The research is a type of qualitative research. The research methods and techniques consist of the methods and techniques of providing data, the methods and techniques of data analysis, and the methods and techniques of presenting data. The data collection in this study was done by asking native speakers of Pangsan village to read English-language words and the researchers recorded, the words was randomly selected by the researchers so that the instructor had no preparation to learn the pronunciation of the sound of the words. As for the method in analyzing the data of this research is the equivalent method, which is a type of articulatory phonetic equivalent method. The method used to convey the results of research is formal and informal methods. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the phonological interference of the Balinese language was realized by Pangsan Village towards English.

Abstract

The problem of this research is whether or not there may be any correlation between students’ learning style(s) and reading achievement, also this study aims to find how far the influence of learning style(s) towards students reading achievement. Ex post facto design is used in this research. It took place at SMPQ An Nawawy Mojokerto, where the population consists of 35 nineth-grade students, whereas the sample was selected randomly as the learning style(s) used in this research and gathered 65 students for Audithory and Read/write. There are two data collecting techniques in this research, they are questionnaire which is aimed to classify students learning style(s), and reading test (Descriptive text). Then to analyze the data, the researcher uses t –a test. This research found that the students are classified into four learning styles based on the questionnaire (Audithory and Read/write). Most of them preffered to Audithory while others in Read/write learning style. The study's data analysis showed that H˳ is accepted and Ha is rejected. There is no significant difference in learning styles (Audithory and Read/write) toward the students’ reading comprehension achievment (Descriptive text). It can be identified based on the results of t-test analysis, the t value is smaller than t table (t value ≤ t table) that was 3,46 ≤ 5,07. On the other hand, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and Null Hypothesis (Ho) was accepted.

Abstract

During the pandemic of Covid-19, offline and online learning are recommended by the government of Indonesia. It is believed by using both offline and online, students will have their opportunity in enhancing their self regulated learning, which seems very effective in this hard time. Therefore, this study will investigate the students’ attitudes on the implementation of blended learning especially in general English course. This study employed survey method in gaining the data where around 92 students of Primary School Education Study Program were involved both in filling questionaire. Interview was also conducted by the researchers to validate and elicite more feedback on this study. The finding shows that almost 76.3% of the students were positive and satisfied on the implementation of blended learning. By applying blended learning, students were also permited to repeat or re-open the lesson without any pressure. By conducting this study, several shortages were also appeared where internet connection was the main problem. Theacher’s lack of online learning design was also a thing to take into consideration. Blended learning has been very effective. Hence, this study support the refinement of the implementation especially in the area where internet connection is a thing to be concerned.

Abstract

The study concerns with the types of figurative language in the song lyric found in ‘Positions’ album by Ariana Grande. The researcher assumed that the figure of speech in the song lyrics are interesting to analyse. The study aims to analyse the types of figurative language in the song lyrics and analyse the meaning that conveys in the song lyric that contains figurative language. This study uses qualitative method to conduct a clear and well-organized description problems that identified. The data were taken from the song lyric and analysed by applying theory types of figurative language by Knickerbocker and Renninger (1963) and theory of meaning by Leech (1981). The study concludes that the figurative language used in the song lyric to deliver a message that the singers want to deliver to the listener of the song, and there are several meanings that conveyed due to understand what the figurative language in the song lyric means. In the Positions album by Ariana Grande found 10 data of figurative language, there are all 1 data of simile, metaphor, personification, synecdoche, metonymy, hyperbole, irony, paradox, dead metaphor and allusion.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the naketi tradition as a means for healing the sick (a means that bridges the guilty man with hand to God as the creator so that the drugs used for healing can work properly). The things that never harmed other people and as an excuse for the Dawan tribe can be seen in form of the stages of forgiveness. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, which is examining an object by collecting, describing and analysing the data based on facts and then drawing conclusions according to the research objectives. In collecting the data, the writer used observation and interview techniques. The result of the study shows that the Naketi tradition is the original culture or custom of the atoin meto or dawan tribe. Naketi is believed to be a way out of conflicted communities so that they can get out from the problems they face. Naketi has been inherited by the ancestors and is a community obligation to be guarded and preserved.

Abstract

Commonly, teaching writing seems difficult due to its complexity involving many aspects of language. As well as a narrative text – a true story or fiction appears to be more complex that needs a fascinating way to teach it. Therefore, the study aims at finding out whether or not using comic strips can enhance students’ writing narrative skills. To carry out this study, the writer uses IX. 2 as the subject of this study. By means of the data collected from of pre-test and post-test, the result shows that utilizing comic strips can successfully enhance students’ writing narrative skill reflected in the post-test result of their composition covering all language aspects called content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. The significant difference in the findings can be seen in the average score: content increased from 11.8 to 16.2, the organization from 11.8 to 15.8, vocabulary from 9.6 to13, grammar from 7.8 to 11, and mechanics from 9.4 to 12.2 with the improvement for each aspect was 4.4, 4, 3.4, 3.2, and 2.8. Based on these proofs, it can be concluded that utilizing comic strips can successfully enhance students’ writing narrative skill. Consequently, finding an attractive way in teaching narrative writing such as using comic strips is required in order to overcome students' writing difficulties.

Abstract

This study entitled ‘The Use of Verbal and Deverbal Noun in Muniba Mazari’s Speech’ was conducted to find out the Verbal and Deverbal Nouns utilized in Muniba Mazari's speech. Nominalization in the form of verbal and deverbal nouns is critical while preparing a speech. Because the speaker must say anything with persuasive words in order to make a speech fascinating and readily persuade the audience, especially the subject and purpose of the speech. The speech was taken from written sources and videos on the internet. In this study, the qualitative descriptive approach is employed to clarify the data and research difficulties by applying the theory of nominalization by Quirk et al. A documentation approach was used to undertake the data collecting procedures. The documents utilized to support this study were videos and online transcriptions of the speech. The results revealed that there were 9 Verbal Noun data and 15 Deverbal Noun data from a total of 24 data.
