Abstract

This article examines Surah Yasin verse 80 from the perspective of the Qur'an and science, focusing on the concept of fire formation from green wood. The study aims to identify the alignment between the interpretation of the verse and modern scientific knowledge regarding the combustion process and the chemical reactions that occur when wood burns. The analysis method employed includes a literature review of the Qur'an, as well as a review of scientific literature related to the physical and chemical properties of green wood. The findings indicate that although the verse was revealed in a different historical context, there is a strong relevance to scientific principles explaining the combustion process. This discovery not only reinforces the spiritual understanding of the sacred text but also demonstrates that science and religious teachings can complement each other. This research is expected to provide new insights for readers regarding the relationship between religious texts and science, as well as encourage further discussion on their integration in the context of education and research.

Abstract

To address the increasingly concerning problem of environmental damage, an approach from various perspectives is needed, including those related to faith and religious beliefs. This study examines how the Qur'an places humans as caliphs (leaders) on earth and has the responsibility to protect and care for the environment. Using the literature study method and the thematic interpretation approach (maudhu'i), the results of the study show that the Qur'an provides a strong normative basis for building good ethics. Unlike the concept of caliph, the value of amanah describes the moral obligation to protect God's creation. The results show that from the perspective of the Qur'an, environmental conservation has goals that are not only ecological but also theological and ethical. Therefore, incorporating Qur'anic principles into discussions and practices of environmental conservation is essential and important to address the challenges faced by world ecology today.

Abstract

Islam has played a central role in shaping the historical and cultural identity of Indonesia. Its introduction and gradual dissemination occurred through peaceful means and various channels, including trade, the preaching of scholars and Sufi missionaries, intermarriage, and political endorsement from local rulers. This article aims to analyze the Islamization process in the Indonesian archipelago using a historical and descriptive-analytical approach, drawing upon both primary and secondary sources. The findings suggest that Islam was first introduced by Muslim traders from Arabia, Persia, and India as early as the 7th century CE, with major port cities in Sumatra and Java serving as key entry points. The study explores competing theories on the origins of Islam in Indonesia, namely the Arab, Gujarat, Persian, and Chinese theories and examines the cultural, political, and social factors that shaped its acceptance. The research concludes that the success of Islamization in Indonesia is closely linked to the religion’s flexibility, the accommodative methods of da'wah tailored to local traditions, and the integration of Islamic values into social and political systems.

Abstract

This study explores the role and moral responsibility of human senses in receiving information, based on the perspective of the Qur’an, particularly Surah Al-Isra’ verse 36. Employing a qualitative, library-based research method, this paper integrates Islamic epistemology and cognitive science to examine how sensory faculties such as hearing, sight, and the heart (understood as the locus of reasoning and perception) are considered divine trusts that will be held accountable. The Qur’anic directive underscores the imperative of verification (tabayyun) and intellectual responsibility in processing information, especially amidst the challenges of misinformation in the digital age. Drawing from the scientific exegeses of contemporary scholars like Shaykh Tantawi Jauhari, Prof. Dr. Zaghlul An-Najjar, and Prof. Dr. Abdul Karim Bazyar, this research highlights the Qur’anic alignment with empirical and rational inquiry, emphasizing observation, analysis, and accountability as core principles of knowledge acquisition. Furthermore, the study analyzes the concept of sensory epistemology in both Islamic and scientific discourses, stressing the ethical dimension of sensory use. The findings affirm that Islam not only recognizes the biological function of the senses but also their moral and spiritual implications, making ethical information management a key component of Islamic ethics. This study concludes that responsible utilization of sensory faculties is essential in cultivating a knowledgeable, discerning, and morally conscious society.

Abstract

Interpretation of moral verses is a study that examines the understanding of verses in the Qur'an related to moral aspects, behaviour, and ethics in the lives of Muslims. This article aims to explore further the interpretation of moral verses and the scope of the study, including the methods of interpretation and their relevance in modern life. By reviewing previous studies on this topic, this article presents findings and discussions that outline various basic concepts of interpretation and their application to verses containing moral values in the lives of Muslims. This study discusses the interpretation of moral verses in the Qur'an and the scope of its study in the science of tafsir. Moral verses serve as a guide for humanity in living a life based on Islamic morality. This study employs a descriptive-analytical method, referencing various classical and modern tafsir works, such as Tafsir Al-Misbah, Tafsir Ibnu Katsir, and Tafsir Al-Munir. The research findings indicate that moral verses encompass aspects of human relations with Allah (habl min Allah), relations with fellow human beings (habl min al-nas), and relations with the environment. The scope of the study of the interpretation of moral verses also includes the methods of interpretation used, whether it be tafsir bi al-Ma'tsur, tafsir bi al-Ra'yi, or tafsir maqashidi.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of the Qur'anic interpretation (tafsir) and modern astronomy in understanding the sun’s role as described in the Qur’an. The sun, classified as a star, sustains life on Earth through nuclear fusion, influences climate, and governs celestial mechanics. The Qur’an uses distinct terms such as siraj (lamp), dhiya’ (blinding light), and nur (reflected light) to highlight the sun’s unique characteristics compared to other celestial bodies. These descriptions align with scientific findings, including the sun’s self-generated energy, gravitational role in the solar system, and its function in determining religious practices like prayer and fasting. Previous studies confirm the Qur’an’s alignment with astronomical discoveries, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary integration to deepen both spiritual and scientific comprehension. This research employs qualitative-descriptive methods through library research, analyzing tafsir literature and scientific data to demonstrate the harmony between divine revelation and empirical science. The findings underscore the sun’s cosmological and theological significance, reinforcing the Qur’an’s timeless relevance in explaining natural phenomena.

Abstract

This article explores how humans understand themselves and the world through the main approaches in philosophy, namely ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Ontology plays a role in revealing the essence of human existence and the fundamental nature of the reality that surrounds it, helping to answer fundamental questions about who we are and how the world is structured. Epistemology presents perspectives on the human process of acquiring and forming knowledge, whether through empirical experience, logical thinking, or inner reflection. On the other hand, axiology highlights the aspect of value, examining how humans determine the meaning of life, distinguish between good and bad, and make values the basis for action in everyday life. By combining these three approaches, this article aims to present a comprehensive picture of the relationship between humans and the world, as well as demonstrate how philosophical thinking can be applied in the dynamics of daily life, from decision-making to the search for meaning in life.

Abstract

This study examines the reconceptualization of deliberation in the perspective of the Qur'an and hadith by tracing textual interpretation and its practical application in the socio-religious context in Indonesia. Deliberation, as a key principle in collective decision-making in Islam, is not only mentioned in verses such as QS. Ash-Shura [42]: 38, but also exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad SAW in various strategic events. However, its meaning and implementation experience dynamics in accordance with the socio-cultural context of Muslim society. This study uses an evidential method and a qualitative-descriptive approach by analyzing classical and contemporary interpretations, as well as case studies of the implementation of deliberation in Islamic institutions and local communities in Indonesia. The results show that deliberation in Indonesia has expanded into an instrument of democratization and public participation, without abandoning the basic values of shura. This reconceptualization shows the integration between Islamic normative values and inclusive local socio-political practices. These findings confirm the importance of deliberation as a means of dialogue, consensus, and strengthening social cohesion in the life of the nation and religion.

Abstract

This article analyzes the semantic equivalence of the words Qalb and Fu’ad in the Qur'an and their implications for understanding the relationship between humans and God in Islamic theology. The method used is qualitative with a semantic analysis and exegesis approach on Qur’anic verses containing both terms, supported by exegeses such as Al Misbah, Al Sya'rawi, and others. The results of the study show that Qalb and Fu’ad are not absolute synonyms. Qalb refers to the center of spiritual dynamics that is subject to change (taqallub), functioning as the receptacle for revelation, emotions, and intentions. Meanwhile, Fu’ad denotes a stable inner aspect, serving as the repository of belief (akidah) after undergoing a rational process. The theological implications include: (1) Qalb as a battleground for spiritual struggles that requires the maintenance of purity, (2) Fu’ad as the foundation of steadfast faith, and (3) the interconnection of both forming a holistic relationship between humans and God. In conclusion, this semantic understanding enriches the concept of Islamic spiritual psychology, particularly in tazkiyat al-nafs (purification of the soul) and human accountability before God.

Abstract

The environmental crisis caused by poor waste management has become a major issue in Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan, particularly following the closure of the Basirih Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS). This study aims to examine the meaning of Surah Ar-Rum verse 41 and contextualize it with the ecological damage resulting from waste issues in Banjarmasin. The research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach based on library research, with the verse analyzed through three Nusantara (Indonesian) interpretations: Tafsir al-Mishbah, Tafsir al-Azhar, and the interpretation by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings reveal that the term fasād in the verse reflects various forms of damage like physical, moral, and spiritual caused by human actions. The local context of Banjarmasin shows the real impact of the waste crisis, both on land and in rivers, aligning with the verse’s meaning. The analysis is carried out through three perspectives: ecological, sociological, and theological. Ecologically, Islam calls for responsibility in preserving the environment. Sociologically, the low level of public awareness is the main cause of the problem. Theologically, this destruction serves as a divine warning for humans to return to the right path. This study asserts that waste management in Islam is not merely a technical issue but a form of spiritual responsibility as stewards (khalifah) on Earth. Solutions to the waste crisis must involve collaboration between the government, religious leaders, and the community, based on faith awareness and Qur’anic values
