Abstract

Peanuts are one of the agricultural commodities that have high economic value. The need for peanuts continues to increase every year along with population growth, community nutritional needs, and the development of the feed and food industry in Indonesia. Optimal peanut production can improve farmers' welfare. However, income from peanut farming is not only influenced by the level of production, but also by the marketing method of the agricultural products. South Sulawesi is the second largest peanut producing province outside Java, with Barru Regency as its leading area. The purchase price of peanuts often fluctuates every year, and the selling price tends to be low during the peak harvest season, so farmers do not get profitable prices. This study aims to (1)Analyze the level of profit of peanut farming, (2)Analyze peanut marketing channels, and (3)Determine the efficiency of peanut farming marketing channels. The method used is quantitative descriptive analysis with the help of the Microsoft Excel application. The research location is in Pujananting District, Barru Regency, with 96 farmer respondents and 9 marketing institutions. The results of the study showed that (1) Peanut farming in Pujananting District, Barru Regency, was profitable with an R/C ratio of 2.52%; (2) There were 2 marketing channel patterns, namely marketing channel (I) involving farmers, retailers, and consumers, while marketing channel (II) involved farmers, collectors, wholesalers, and industry.; (3) The most efficient marketing channel was marketing channel I with an efficiency value of 1.64%.

Abstract

Sorghum as an alternative commodity to substitute rice and other cereal crops, showing to its high adaptability to arid environments and limited rainfall. However, sorghum production has witnessed a decline, leading to a reduction in sorghum supply, thus impacting the provision of food and raw materials for industries. This research aims to ascertain farmers' decisions in selecting new superior varieties (NSV) and whether the utilization of NSV enhances farmers' productivity and income. The study was conducted in Patihan Village, Lamongan Regency, with a sample size of 55 sorghum farmers. Logistic regression analysis was employed to determine the factors influencing farmers in adopting new superior sorghum varieties. The findings indicate that factors influencing farmers in utilizing NSV include education, land size, farming experience, participation in farmer groups, and harvest orientation. Although the utilization of NSV does not increase sorghum farmers' productivity, the income of sorghum farmers adopting NSV has increased.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the feasibility of farming and the pattern of shallot marketing channels in the eastern and western regions of Sumbawa Regency. The research area was determined using a purposive sampling technique, starting from the district to the village level which is the center of shallot production. The research was carried out in May-July 2024. The number of samples or farmers in this research was determined by 30 shallot farmers. The analysis method uses descriptive methods, income approach, RC Ratio, and BEP. The research results show that the average income from shallot farming in the western zone is higher, namely: Rp. 77,947,742,- per farm/farmer/season compared to the average income of shallot farming in the eastern zone, which is Rp. 28,058,875,-. per farm/farmer/season. The R/C ratio value of shallot farming in the western zone is greater, namely R/C = 3 compared to the R/C ratio value of the eastern zone, namely R/C = 2. This shows that the efficiency of farming in the western zone is more efficient than with shallot farming in the eastern area of Sumbawa Regency. The BEP price value for the eastern zone is IDR. 10,100 per kilogram, and the BEP price for the west zone is IDR. 8,500,- per kilogram. There are 2 (two) market channel patterns in the western zone of Sumbawa Regency, namely: (1) farmers - retailers at the sub-district market - consumers, (2) farmers - village level collectors - retailers at the sub-district market. Meanwhile, there is only 1 (one) market channel pattern in the eastern zone, namely: farmers - collectors outside the sub-district - wholesalers outside Sumbawa Regency.
