Abstract

Land management refers to land use activities by local community in order to meet the necessities of life. The aim of this study to reveal the management model in Nusapati and its services and to find out about public perception of the different models for land management such as forests, community forests, gardens and rice fields. The research was conducted from May to June 2016 through field observation with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) using research tools such as interview guides. The results show that the four models of the land are used for subsistence either directly (economic and social purposes) or indirectly (ecological). Respondents prefer the garden as a model of the most important land with a score of 34%, followed by community forest with a score of 25% third after community forest is rice field with a score of 23% and finally is a forest with a score of 18%. The results of the analysis show that the average public is it the institution, age, education, and gender has no differences on the model of land that is important to meet their needs. Meanwhile, the community forest is not necessarily considered to meet the daily need given the harvest time is quite long. The plant species that exist in the community lands are quite varied so as to provide considerable benefits for the community and the environment. Keywords: community, community forest, Land management.

Abstract

Mangrove forests are tropical coastal vegetation communities, which are dominated by several types of mangrove trees that are able to grow and develop in muddy coastal tidal areas. In order to preserve the biological and ecological functions of the mangrove forest ecosystem, a rational approach is needed in which a rational approach in its utilization involves communities around the area. Hamlet of Setingga Asin Sebubus Village, Paloh Subdistrict, Sambas Regency is one of the hamlets that has a mangrove forest area. The majority of the hamlet Setingga Asin people live as farmers, entrepreneurs and fishermen. People around the forest use it as additional livelihoods such as searching for shrimp, crabs, shellfish, kepah and nipah as the main ingredients for making roofs. The existence of the relationship between the community and the existence of mangrove forests raises the perception of the community in an effort to maintain and preserve the existence of the mangrove forest itself. Therefore, this study aims to determine the public perception of the existence of mangrove forests in Hamlet of Setingga Asin, Sebubus Village, Paloh Subdistrict, Sambas Regency and to know the factors that influence people's perceptions. The study used a survey method with interview techniques for 73 family heads in Hamlet Setingga Asin. Sampling of respondents is done by purposive sampling technique. The data analysis used was descriptive analysis and inferential analysis of the Kendall Tau correlation. The results showed that community perceptions of the existence of mangrove forest in hamlet Setingga Asin, Sebubus Village, Paloh Subdistrict, Sambas Regency tend to be neutral, this is because the community basically realizes that they depend on the surrounding mangrove forest's biological resources. However, the community does not understand that these resources need to be managed sustainably so that the benefits can be obtained sustainably. Keywords: community perception, conservation, mangrove, utilization.

Abstract

Birds (Avifauna) is one species were badly affected to presence of forest land use change, especially in plantations with similar vegetation (monokultur) such as oil palm plantations. The purpose and benefits of this research are to find out how much diversity of bird species diurnal in Palm oil Plantation PTPN XIII (Persero) Amboyo Inti village Ngabang Subdistrict Landak Regency. Based on the results of observations show that of the three habitats in the observation path, obtained the number of diurnal birds have been found in the study sites 17 types, are classified into 10 families namely : (Rallidae), (Cuculidae), (Piosidae), (Sylvilidae), (Turnidaei), (Pycnonotidae), (Picidae), (Accipitiridae), (collumbidae), (necttaindae). In the secondary forest habitat found 13 species of diurnal birds, habitat for palm plantations 12 species and 9 species in settlements. From the calculation, Highest dominance index contained in Settlements habitat, morning, C = 0.17409, noontime C = 0.17868, and afternoon C = 0.17086. Whereas the highest species diversity index contained in Secondary forest habitat with the value of morning H = 1,01482, noontime H = 0,99372, afternoon H = 0,94602 and the Oil Palm Plantation habitat have a high diversity index values in the afternoon with value H =0,94095. Habitat differences provide a clear influence of the dominant species, where this species dominance is the opposite of diversity. Small species diversity produces great mastery of habitat, so that species dominance will spread more evenly because with the least number of species possible number of individuals to live and develop better. Abstract

Insects are the most dominant group of animals living on the face of the earth and their role is ecologically significant. The purpose of the study was to observe the type of population and identify the effect of  water level on the diversity of insect species found in the peat swamp area of Kuala Dua village. Data assesment was done by using survey method with systematic sampling. Observation plots was adjusted to the field conditions with water level 30, 40, 50 and 60 cm. The results showed that there were 15 insects species  belonging to 8 orders from 11 different families. The most common insects found in various TMAs that were observed, were Neurothemis fluctuan from the Odonata order. Physical conditions of the environment greatly affect the life of insects, such as having many types of plants which became food  for insects. It can be concluded that the level of diversity of insect species has a relationship with environmental conditions such as vegetation, pH, and water level. Keywords: Insect population, systematic sampling, water level
