Abstract

The majority of people, especially among the Urhobo, seem to view marriage as their final resort when it comes to getting over issues like loneliness, sexual tension, and social, cultural, economic, and political constraints. However, marriages built on these flimsy foundations frequently end in a string of breakdowns when faced with difficulties, which results in the breaking of marital vows. Due to the above, this work examines the morality of Christian couples in Urhoboland, Delta State, and Nigeria who break their marital vows. The inquiry made use of both analytical and phenomenological approaches. This work was evaluated using a systematic questionnaire and unstructured oral interviews. As a result, 12 churches in six local government areas were selected (Ethiopia East, Ethiopia West, Udu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Sapele Local Government Areas). The phenomenological and analytical procedures were used due to the versatility of survey designs, which allow for a wide range of data collection techniques. The investigation in this work was done under two headings: factors responsible for violations of marriage vows and effects of marriage vow violations on couples, families, and society. This study shows a number of elements that contribute to marital vow breaches as well as the repercussions such violations have on individuals, families, and society. The participants agree that, in general, Christian married couples who divorce have a sense of autonomy and freedom from abusive marriages. This essay contends that since they broke their marital vows, both partners frequently experience severe spiritual regression.

Abstract

The development of local culture and beliefs greatly impacted the spread of the Gospel. In serving the mission, understanding the concept of local culture and beliefs will bring contextualization to the cultural enculturation that has existed hundreds of years ago at Bangka Islamic Boarding School. The cultural tradition of respecting the Lord of the sky, the Lord of the earth and the Lord of mankind, namely the deceased ancestors (Tian Di Akung) is the influence of Confucianism which is the central subject of Chinese cultural beliefs in Pesaren. Human efforts in the search for salvation have been maintained from generation to generation. But in the Christian faith salvation is a gift from the Lord Jesus Christ, and the concept of justification from the creator is accepted as a central subject of evangelism.

Abstract

This paper conducts a study of the concept and meaning of heritage in the Bible and Toraja culture, specifically in Lembang Patongloan, to find out the theological meaning of heritage in the perspective of the Bible and also toraja culture. The purpose of this paper is to find the theological meaning of inheritance in the Bible and Toraja Culture in responding to various conflicts that arise regarding inheritance or mana' in the Patongloan lembang. The writing uses qualitative methods by conducting literature studies, and interviews directly at the Patongloan lembang. This research finds that theologically the legacy of the Biblical context and Toraja culture is a symbol of providence, the relationship between God and people, parents and children in pa'rapuan as a form of responsibility. Land inheritance has not only economic value, but also religious value. However, the social facts in Patongloan's lembang are violations of the rules and meaning of inheritance or mana'.

This study uses a qualitative method, where data and facts are obtained directly by using interview techniques, observation, and library studies. The result found five cultures of the pemali in the rituals of rampanan kapa’;1). Pemali sounds a drum where there is a family above the house/family who died; 2). Pemali determines the day either or sees the moon (cannot get married in february/month of sipi’; 3). Pemali unteka’ palanduannatau (no one servant marriied to nobles); 4). Pemali ma’pangngan buni (have affair) and; 5). Pemali urromok busian dirangkan (commit adultery). Through the anthropological study the existence of the pemali in the rituals of rampanan kapa’ is a result of wise thoughts that are lowered by God to the human being to bring a good for the lives of society. Pemali in the rituals of the rampanan kapa’ doesn’t affect the beliefs of the community (Christians)because they are interpreted according to the word of God.

Abstract

Christ and Debata Mulajadi na Bolon are two distinct entities, understood respectively by Christianity and by Batak-Toba culture. Christ is known as the incarnate logos (John 1:1-5) and the firstborn and invisible image of God (Colossians 1:15), while Debata Mulajadi na Bolon is only approached as “the supreme god of Batak-Toba”; although the titles ascribed to him are similar to those ascribed to God. This article will build on the idea that Christ is Debata Mulajadi na Bolon himself, although it must be acknowledged that there are differences, especially in their Trinity theology. Debata Mulajadi na Bolon is not a pagan figure but God who presents Himself as Debata Mulajadi na Bolon. The three biblical texts that will be discussed in this article are the bridge of this transformation effort, also using two approaches namely Niebuhr’s typology, Christ the Transformer of Culture and Bevans’ synthesized contextual theology model.

Abstract

Cultural traditions in Indonesia are very diverse, including the Mawe tradition on Buru Island, Maluku which is believed to be able to provide clues to uncover cases or problems that often occur. Uniquely, this tradition uses the spirits of deceased ancestors, which is a ritual led by traditional elders to provide clues that can explain a problem. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and analysis of supporting Bible verses. As a result, from the theological studies conducted, it is known that rituals of seances have also been carried out in the biblical tradition, but it is clear that this tradition is contrary to the Bible. The Christian theological view is very clear that believers are not justified under any circumstances to perform seances because it is a form of syncretism.

Abstract

The existence of this journal is made which discusses the views of the Toraja people about Rampanan Kapa' or commonly referred to as marriage, but to find out the law of Rampanan kapa', the author in making this journal will discuss how the public views the law of Rampanan kapa', why it happens in marriages in Toraja and what is done by the Toraja people to achieve Rampnana kapa' as stipulated in the Law About Marriage No. 1 of 1974. The purpose and usefulness of this journal are to provide every reader with knowledge about marriage law and its implementation forms in Torajan society. Both to the general public and to the Torajan people so that marriage is carried out for the purposes regulated by law without ignoring the value of customs that apply in Toraja and have become a habit by the Torajan people. But in this case, also the marriage of the Toraja people is associated with a counterculture model that supports the existence of customs that are obeyed by each community in their respective regions so that by understanding this counterculture, we increasingly understand the law in conducting marriage or Rampanan kapa' in Torajan society. In Torajan society, there are customs as the identity of Torajan people that can be introduced to anyone while still respecting the existence of other people's culture. Our culture as Torajan people can be introduced wherever we are by practicing our culture in the country of people but still respecting the culture in the area.

Abstract

Digital culture seems to be well received in society because the benefits are unavoidable. This should be acknowledged, but this welcome should also be anticipated with a critical attitude because in contrast to its usefulness, digital technology also contributes to the emergence of negative influences and impacts on its users. This is also a concern for STT ATI students because digital culture has also permeated their life context. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of STT ATI students amid digital flow to see these problems. This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological study. The results of this study are that: first, STT ATI students quite understand digital culture based on their experience; second, digital culture has an impact on them, both positively and negatively; third, ethically they have a fairly good response in dealing with digital challenges, but on the other hand there are also weaknesses in perceptions about the subject. In this regard, more intense training is needed so that they are ready to face the digital era with all its consequences.
