Abstract

This research examines the disparity in students' comprehension of social studies materials during online and offline learning for Class IV SDN Pagerwojo. Employing a non-experimental quantitative ex post facto method, documentation of value data collection was employed as the instrument. The results indicate that online learning yields a mean understanding score of 70 (medium category) with a standard deviation of 10, while offline learning achieves a mean score of 73 (moderate category) with a standard deviation of 13. The findings suggest a discernible variance in students' understanding between the two modes of learning, albeit not significantly pronounced. The implications of this study contribute to the ongoing discourse on optimizing learning environments to better support students' comprehension in social studies subjects. Highlights: Insightful Comparison: This research delves into a comparative analysis of students' understanding of social studies materials in both online and offline learning environments, shedding light on the nuanced differences between the two. Moderate Disparity: The study reveals a moderate variance in students' comprehension levels between online and offline learning, emphasizing the need for further exploration to optimize educational approaches. Implications for Education: The findings have significant implications for educators, highlighting the importance of tailoring teaching strategies to maximize students' understanding of social studies subjects across different learning platforms. Abstract

This study aims to explore the method of translating metaphorical utterances in the Dead Poets Society movie, given the challenges metaphors pose in conveying meanings through comparisons. The research design adopts a qualitative approach, with data collected through direct observation, including watching, understanding, classifying, and analyzing 26 randomly selected metaphorical samples. The study reveals that semantic translation dominates the transmission of metaphorical meaning, with translators oriented towards the semantic and syntactic structure of the source language. Translators tend to employ word-for-word, literal, semantic, and faithful translation techniques. The implications of the findings suggest that semantic translation is more prevalent than communicative translation in conveying messages and meanings, with literal translation being the most widely used method. However, some sentences were left untranslated in the target language. This study provides valuable insights for translation studies, contributing to a better understanding of metaphor translation and its impact on communication in movie contexts. Highlight: Methodological Approach: The study adopts a qualitative research design to explore translation methods used in metaphorical utterances in the Dead Poets Society movie. Dominance of Semantic Translation: The analysis reveals that semantic translation is the primary approach employed by translators in conveying metaphorical meaning, emphasizing the importance of semantic and syntactic structure of the source language. Implications for Translation: The study highlights the prevalence of word-for-word, literal, semantic, and faithful translation methods, shedding light on the challenges of translating metaphors and their impact on conveying messages and meanings. Abstract

This study investigates the influence of a language team's efforts on Maharah Kalam proficiency among female students at Al Fattah Buduran Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia. Employing a quantitative correlational approach, the research analyzes data using hypothesis and correlation testing via SPSS Windows 26. The results indicate a non-significant relationship (p = 0.120 > 0.05) between the language team intervention and Maharah Kalam proficiency, suggesting that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. The observed negative correlation of 0.023 (2.3%) implies a minimal adverse effect. Thus, this study concludes that the Language Team variable holds no significant sway over the Maharah Kalam variable among female students at the boarding school, emphasizing the complex interplay of factors affecting Arabic language acquisition. Highlights: Limited Impact: The study reveals that the language team's initiatives did not significantly influence Arabic language proficiency among female students. Correlation Analysis: Quantitative analysis using SPSS 26 showed a non-significant negative correlation (2.3%) between the language team efforts and Maharah Kalam proficiency. Complex Language Acquisition: The findings underscore the intricate nature of Arabic language acquisition, indicating the need for comprehensive approaches beyond specific interventions. Keywords: Arabic proficiency, language team, Islamic boarding school, Maharah Kalam, Maharah Kalam, language acquisition.

Abstract

This study addresses the pervasive issue of academic anxiety among undergraduates completing their theses, focusing on the Faculty of Psychology and Education at a prominent university. With a sample of 200 students, drawn using accidental sampling, the research explores the relationship between self-efficacy and academic anxiety. Self-efficacy was measured using a scale encompassing magnitude, strength, and generality, while academic anxiety was assessed through emotional, cognitive, and physical dimensions. Employing Rank Spearman correlation and SPSS 25.0, the analysis revealed a significant negative correlation (ρxy = -0.186, p < 0.05), underscoring the inverse connection between self-efficacy and academic anxiety during thesis work. These findings emphasize the potential of bolstering self-efficacy to mitigate academic anxiety, offering insights for educational institutions and practitioners to foster more confident and less anxious thesis pursuits. Highlights: Significant Relationship: The study uncovers a noteworthy negative relationship (ρxy = -0.186, p < 0.05) between self-efficacy and academic anxiety among students engaged in thesis work. Multi-Dimensional Assessment: Self-efficacy and academic anxiety were assessed through scales encompassing various dimensions, offering a comprehensive perspective on the interplay between these factors. Implications for Education: The findings underscore the potential of enhancing self-efficacy to alleviate academic anxiety during thesis pursuits, suggesting practical strategies for educational institutions to better support students in their research endeavors. Keywords: Academic anxiety, Self-efficacy, Thesis completion, Undergraduate students, Correlation.
