Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of the Islamic judicial system during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. This research is grounded in the urgency of understanding the development of the Islamic legal system following the passing of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), where the complexity of social challenges spurred the emergence of fresh dynamics in judicial institutions. The primary focus is on the transformation of the judicial system, which shifted from the singular authority of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to a more structured framework during the era of the Khulafa al-Rashidin (Rightly Guided Caliphs). This study is positioned as a comparative-historical analysis, using that classical period as a foundation for advancing contemporary Islamic judicial management. The applied approach employs descriptive qualitative methods through library research, supplemented by content analysis of primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that the judicial patterns during Abu Bakr's time retained the simplicity of the prophetic era, but underwent a striking transformation under Umar bin Khattab, marked by the separation of judicial functions from the executive and the appointment of independent judges (qadhi). This development continued under Uthman and Ali through the reinforcement of procedural justice principles and the integrity of judges. Overall, the era of the Khulafa al-Rashidin laid the foundation for the supremacy of law, consultative mechanisms (shura), and the independence of judicial institutions, which remain relevant to this day. These findings contribute to contemporary debates on Islamic legal governance by demonstrating that judicial independence has deep historical roots in early Islamic political structures.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in judicial systems has raised debates regarding its limitations in judicial reasoning, particularly within the Religious Courts. Previous studies have generally examined AI from technological and administrative perspectives, while Islamic legal studies have focused more on judicial reasoning and ijtihad. However, limited research has integrated AI with the perspective of the four madhhabs in judicial reasoning. This study aims to analyze the legitimacy, limitations, and position of AI in the legal reasoning of Religious Court judges based on positive law and the perspectives of the four Islamic schools of thought. This research employs a qualitative method with a normative juridical approach through library research and document analysis of Supreme Court regulations, court decisions, classical fiqh literature, and scholarly articles related to AI and law. The findings indicate that AI may function as a supporting tool for legal data retrieval and analysis but cannot replace judges’ authority in making legal decisions. The four madhhabs consistently position humans as the primary subjects of legal determination due to their scholarly competence, moral judgment, and religious responsibility. These findings contribute to the development of legal technology studies by integrating Islamic jurisprudence perspectives into contemporary debates on AI governance in modern judicial systems.

Abstract

Self-confidence has become a critical psychological construct in the lives of modern individuals, where pressure from social media, intense competition, and economic uncertainty often diminish self-belief, leading to escalating cases of anxiety and depression among young people. While prior research has examined self-confidence either from general Islamic perspectives or from specific Western frameworks, a substantial gap remains regarding in-depth comparative analysis and a holistic integrative model that synthesizes Martin Seligman’s positive psychology (particularly his theory of learned optimism and the PERMA framework) with Imam Al-Ghazali’s Islamic spiritual paradigm of tawakkal as articulated in Ihya’ Ulumuddin. This study aims to compare the similarities and differences between the two conceptions of self-confidence, integrate them into a Model of Optimism–Tawakkal Integrative Self-Confidence (MOTIK), and elaborate its theoretical, practical, and methodological implications for Islamic psychology. The study employs descriptive–interpretative qualitative library research through an in-depth review of primary works, including Seligman’s Learned Optimism (1991), Authentic Happiness (2002), and Flourish (2011), alongside Al-Ghazali’s Ihya’ Ulumuddin and Minhaj al-‘Abidin, complemented by relevant secondary scholarly sources. The findings indicate convergence in the centrality of cognitive optimism, the learnable nature of confidence, and the role of internal–external factors, but reveal a fundamental divergence in Al-Ghazali’s transcendent–spiritual dimension, which complements Seligman’s empirical–secular approach. The integration yields MOTIK, a holistic framework comprising three pillars: a positive–spiritual self-concept, an ikhtiar–tawakkal process, and a flourishing–ridha outcome. Implications include the enrichment of Islamic psychology theory, the development of CBT–tawakkal-based counseling interventions, and recommendations for empirical validation through psychometric construction and quasi-experimental testing.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between teacher role modeling and students’ moral development strategies at SB Muhammadiyah Kepong Malaysia, an Islamic diaspora educational institution facing the challenge of character formation within a multicultural environment. The research employed a quantitative correlational design involving all teachers as respondents through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires measuring teacher role modeling and students’ moral development strategies and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The findings reveal that teacher role modeling was rated at a very high level (M = 4.64), as were the strategies for students’ moral development (M = 4.74). The Pearson correlation test yielded a coefficient of r = 0.834, indicating a very strong positive relationship between the two variables. These results suggest that the better the teacher’s role modeling, the more effective the implementation of students’ moral development strategies. The most influential dimensions of role modeling include honesty, discipline, exemplary worship practices, patience, and consistency between words and actions. This study highlights teacher role modeling as a key determinant of successful moral development in the context of Islamic diaspora education. Therefore, strengthening the school’s religious culture, promoting habitual worship practices, monitoring student behavior, and fostering sustainable collaboration between schools and parents are essential for consistently instilling moral values in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of the meaning of the hijab in the TikTok era through Émile Durkheim’s sacred–profane framework. As a visual-algorithmic platform, TikTok has become a significant space where young Muslim women display, negotiate, and reconstruct the meaning of the hijab through algorithmic logic, popular aesthetics, and digital culture. This research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis of 30 purposively selected TikTok posts under the hashtags #HijabJahat and #BaddieHijab, collected between January and March 2026. The data were analyzed thematically based on Durkheim’s concepts of the sacred and the profane as articulated in The Elementary Forms of Religious Life. The findings indicate that the transformation of the hijab does not result in complete desacralization but rather in a process of symbolic reconfiguration. While the hijab continues to be recognized as a religious obligation, its visual expression is rearticulated through digital personas, visual trends, and algorithmic mechanisms. In this context, the sacred and the profane no longer function as rigid opposites but coexist within the collective consciousness of digital society. Digital ritual practices, such as hashtag participation, trend replication, and visual imitation, generate new forms of solidarity based on shared aesthetics as well as religious identity. This study contributes to the sociology of digital religion by demonstrating that social media does not eliminate the religious meaning of the hijab but transforms it into symbolic forms that reflect the dynamics of contemporary digital culture.
