Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Islamic Education learning at SMAN 1 Nunukan Selatan, Nunukan District, North Kalimantan Province. The objectives of the research are: 1) to understand how Islamic Education teachers implement the Merdeka Curriculum at SMAN 1 Nunukan Selatan, 2) to identify the challenges faced by teachers in implementing Islamic Education through the Merdeka Curriculum, and 3) to explore the solutions provided by teachers in overcoming these challenges. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach with the research location at SMAN 1 Nunukan Selatan, Nunukan District. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, with respondents including the school principal, curriculum supervisor, Islamic Education teachers, and students. Research instruments used include the researcher, observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation. Data were analyzed using steps such as data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and concluded with data verification. The results show that the implementation of Islamic Education learning at SMAN 1 Nunukan Selatan has not yet been optimal in applying the Merdeka Curriculum. This is evident from the teachers' readiness, as they feel that the curriculum still requires adjustments and processes. The teaching methods continue to follow the previous curriculum patterns, and there are difficulties in preparing teaching materials. Additionally, limitations in the availability and utilization of facilities and infrastructure also pose challenges. However, Islamic Education teachers strive to optimize learning by adapting quickly, developing competencies, enhancing creativity, and utilizing technology for more effective teaching. Collaboration with colleagues and support from various parties are crucial solutions for teachers in implementing Islamic Education through the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

In the world of education, of course, we are no strangers to the problem-based learning method, where learning should be student-centered, which was initially oriented to a problem related to the topic of learning. The author intends to implement the PBL method in the news item text learning process at MAN Lamandau, particularly in class XII. This study seeks to understand its application, the students' comprehension of the material, and their involvement in the news item text learning process. The author used data from his field experience practice at MAN Lamandau, specifically in class XII, for the discussion. The author carried out the learning process himself using the PBL method with the text topics mentioned above. Later, the author will use a qualitative method in the form of a narrative to convey the results. Despite several challenges in the implementation process, including the absence of an interactive discussion process due to students' passive tendencies and external factors that disrupt the learning process, the PBL method's application generally piques students' interest and motivation in the news item text learning process, as they typically receive only lectures.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out how the picture series can be employed to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This research was a classroom action research. This research consisted of two cycles; each consisted of four stages, namely: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this research were the Tenth Grade students of SMK Negeri 4 Penajam Paser Utara. In this research the researcher acted as the English teacher. The instruments used to collect the data in this research were an observation sheet, field notes, interview, students’ questionnaire and test. The data analysis of this study was descriptive qualitative and a bit of quantitative measurement to find the percentage of success. Based on the data analysis from each activity, it can be seen that there is a significant difference of the students’ achievement in the pretest and posttest. The students’ achievement in the posttest is higher than that of the pretest. The finding of the research indicated that the picture series could improve the students’ achievement in writing narrative text. The improvement can be seen from the increase of the students’ assessment from preliminary test, cycle one and cycle two. In preliminary study that just 10 students (37%) passed the preliminary test, while 27 students (63%) students were unsuccessful. There was just one student who got excellent grade. In the first cycle only thirteen students or 48% got less than 60, four students or 15% got only passing grade that is 60, eight students or 30% got 70, one students or 7% got 75. And in the second cycle there was significant improvement. There were just 3 students (11%) got less than 60. Another 24 students (89%) got higher than passing grade. It was suggested that the English teachers employ the picture series to improve students’ achievement in writing narrative text. However, to get the passing score of the test in this research should be planned carefully. Finally, other researchers, one suggested employing picture series would bring the students to the freedom of expressing their feeling in writing. It built their self confident automatically.

Abstract

Understanding the socio-economic and cultural impacts of successful language programs on communities is crucial for informed policy decisions. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by all ASEAN countries and understand the respective policies and programs they are implementing to address these challenges. We conducted a scoping review, reviewing 178 pieces of literature from various databases and websites, based on the identified inclusion criteria. The researchers used profiling and thematic analysis to pinpoint six language-related issues in the ASEAN countries, as well as the implementation of 24 language programs and policies. The study emphasizes the importance of government involvement in language program success, leading to recommendations for a comparative analysis of language education policies, qualitative investigations into stakeholder perspectives, long-term tracking of program outcomes, and in-depth case studies of both successful and unsuccessful programs. Further research should investigate the specific strategies governments employ for successful language program implementation, such as budget allocation, balancing language promotion, and curriculum improvements. Although this study contributes to the broader discourse on language policy, it emphasizes the significance of tailored strategies to address challenges and enhance language education in the ASEAN region.
