Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the improvement of student learning achievement in athletics material through the problem-based learning model. This type of research is classroom action research with two cycles. At MA Al-Hikmah Purwoasri, the research sample consisted of 24 students. We conducted this research through a cycle of planning, implementation, observation, reflection, and data collection. The instruments used in this study were test and observation techniques. The data analysis used a quantitative description. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in student athletics learning achievement after the problem-based learning model was implemented. This is clear from the results of cycle I, where 47% of the students did not meet the minimum completion criteria of 75, and the class average was only 78.01. On the other hand, cycle II results showed that 91.18% of the 24 students who took the test met the minimum completion criteria of 75. Therefore, the application of the problem-based learning model can enhance student learning achievement in athletics material, particularly in the high jump.

Abstract

The focus of this research was to use the reciprocal teaching strategy to increase prospective teachers reading comprehension in the sixth semester of English education at IAI As'adiyah Sengkang. A pre-experimental approach with pretest and posttest design was used by the researcher. Using the cluster random sampling technique, a total of 13 people were included in the sample. This study used a 20-item multiple-choice reading test as the research tool. Pre-test and post-test data were obtained. The data analysis revealed that the mean score of prospective teachers pre-tests was 59, 29 and the mean score of prospective teachers post-tests was 77,62. It was discovered that after undergoing reciprocal teaching strategy treatment, the prospective teachers reading comprehension improved (α < 0.05). The researcher found that a reciprocal teaching strategy was appropriate in teaching reading comprehension at IAI As'adiyah Sengkang's sixth semester of English education based on the results of data analysis. Reciprocal teaching strategy can be used as an alternative strategy in the teaching and learning process by English teachers and other scholars.

The method used is qualitative research. We conducted the research at public senior high school 2 Gowa. The researcher collected the data through a combination of interviews, observations, and documentation. The researcher employs data analysis techniques that include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. While teachers understand the application of the genre-based approach, they struggle to implement its steps. Teachers exhibit a positive attitude toward the implementation of GBA. The development of syllabi and lesson plans adheres to the planning and implementation steps, but it does not follow the evaluation and revision step. The teachers in this school encounter challenges stemming from the students' competence and motivation.

Abstract

This study's objective is to determine the students’ improvement in writing skills using the make-a-match learning model. This type of research is classroom action research, with the 29 students of Grade XII SMAS Al Ittihad Cianjur as research subjects. The research design consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. We used an observation instrument and a test instrument for data collection. The study's findings indicate that students' interests and activities increased during the observation period, rising from 37% in the first cycle to 69.95% in the second. The average value of the previous students' test results increased from 62.72 in the first cycle to 71.12 in the second cycle. Based on the comparison of the average values obtained, there has been an increase in students learning abilities after taking action with the Make a Match learning model. This description suggests that the use of the make-a-match learning model can enhance the ability to learn English.

Abstract

This literature review examines the role of working memory capacity (WMC) in second language acquisition (SLA) and explores potential solutions for learners with low WMC. Research shows that students with higher WMC perform better in vocabulary learning, oral fluency, and grammar. However, few studies offer strategies to help learners with lower WMC. The review highlights N-back tasks as a promising tool for improving working memory. Studies show that N-back training can enhance memory capacity but requires consistent practice for visible results. The researcher suggests incorporating N-back tasks to help students with low WMC improve their language learning skills.

Abstract

The study examined the socio-demographic profile of the octogenarians in Nigeria from an educational perspective. We adopted a cross-sectional research survey design. All octogenarians in Nigeria constituted the study population. A multi-stage procedure selected a sample of 1,774 individuals. We adopted a snowball sampling approach to select participants until we reached the desired sample size. An adapted version of the World Health Organization's (WHOQOL) questionnaire programmed in the Open Data Kit (ODK) was used for data collection. We analyzed the collected data using frequency counts and simple percentages. The mean age of octogenarians was 83 years. Male-headed households were most common (66.2%) among octogenarians. Vision (8.6%) and mobility (12.1%) issues were the types of disability common to octogenarians in Nigeria. Fewer Nigerian octogenarians are still flourishing and making productive contributions to society, but a greater proportion of them need social and educational supports and physical health needs for better well-being.
