Abstract

Patriarchal culture continues to shape gender roles and daughters' career orientations in many Indonesian families, including Pandalungan society. Although father involvement has received increasing scholarly attention, limited studies have examined it as a form of resistance to patriarchal culture within the unique socio-cultural context of Pandalungan families. This study examines how the adaptation of the Latte dad phenomenon reflects changing father involvement and its influence on daughters' career orientations. A qualitative case study was conducted involving Pandalungan families in Jember City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation and analysed thematically. The findings reveal that resistance to patriarchal culture is manifested through fathers' active participation in childcare, shared domestic responsibilities, support for daughters' education and career aspirations, and egalitarian family decision-making. While parenting practices reflect the influence of both Javanese and Madurese cultural traditions, they increasingly promote independence, autonomy, and equal opportunities for daughters. This study contributes to gender and family studies by conceptualizing the adaptation of the Latte dad phenomenon as an emerging model of father involvement that challenges patriarchal norms and supports daughters' career development in Pandalungan society

Abstract

The growing environmental crisis has intensified scholarly interest in ecofeminism as an approach that integrates ecological sustainability, gender justice, and religious values. However, empirical evidence on how ecofeminist values are institutionalized within Islamic women's organizations remains limited. This study examines how ecofeminism is institutionalized within the Environment and Disaster Management Unit (LLHPB) of the East Java Regional Board of 'Aisyiyah by exploring the interaction between religious values, organizational structures, and women's ecological consciousness in shaping environmental practices. A qualitative case study approach was employed. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, organizational documents, and institutional publications and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Guided by Islamic Ecofeminism and Pierre Bourdieu's Theory of Habitus, the findings show that ecofeminist values are institutionalized through three interrelated mechanisms: participatory leadership, the integration of da'wah bil-hal with environmental education and disaster mitigation, and the development of an ecological habitus through cadre formation and community engagement. These mechanisms collectively give rise to a Habitus-Based Religious Ecofeminism Model, illustrating how Islamic values are translated into sustainable environmental practices through organizational processes. This study contributes to the literature by advancing an institutional perspective on Islamic ecofeminism and demonstrates how faith-based women's organizations promote ecological sustainability through the integration of religion, gender, and environmental action.

Abstract

Gender disparities in higher education remain a significant issue, particularly evident in the low participation of women at the highest level of the academic career ladder, namely as lecturer. The discussion on women caught many attentions in the past and present, thus this study chose Yudian Wahyudi, an Indonesian scholar who has written extensively on maqāṣid syarī‘ah, including women issues.  The study aims to discuss his intellectual contributions regarding the human dignity of women and the role of al-asmā’ (specific expertise) in honouring women. As qualitative research, this study is a literature review employing a hermeneutic-conceptual approach. Primary data sources were obtained from Yudian Wahyudi’s works, interviews, and supporting literature on maqāṣid syarī‘ah, gender exegesis, and women’s equality in higher education. Data analysis was conducted by tracing key concepts in his thought, integrative tauḥīd, Indonesian identity, lailatul qadr, qiwāmah, and al-asmā’, and then linking them to the issue of women’s human dignity. This paper argues that there are two main foundations that Yudian consistently applies to social discourses, specifically regarding the position of women: 1) The application of Integrative tauḥīd, and 2) the application of the Indonesian context. Yudian interprets lailatul qadr as a symbol of liberation from all forms of inequality and argues that empowering women is essential for advancing civilization. As for al-asmā’, it is understood as achievements produced by women across all sectors of civilization. Through a maqāṣid syarī‘ah approach, he promotes a contextual and socially beneficial interpretation of Islam that strengthens women's human dignity.

Abstract

Sexual violence against women and girls in public spaces remains a persistent challenge in Vietnam despite various national and international intervention efforts. This study examines the contribution of United Nations (UN) Women in addressing sexual violence in public spaces through the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Program during the 2017–2025 period. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed using secondary data collected from reports, policy documents, and relevant publications. The data were analyzed through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that UN Women's contribution is manifested through integrated interventions implemented under the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Program. Among these interventions, improvements in public infrastructure and integrated survivor services have made the greatest contribution to enhancing public safety and expanding survivors' access to support services. In contrast, capacity-building initiatives involving workshops, men's engagement, and collaboration with educational institutions require sustained implementation to produce long-term behavioral change, while public awareness campaigns demonstrate relatively limited impact due to their short-term implementation. The study concludes that UN Women has made a significant contribution to strengthening public safety and survivor support systems in Vietnam. However, addressing the underlying social norms that perpetuate sexual violence requires sustained, collaborative, and multi-sectoral interventions involving government agencies, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and local communities.
