Abstract

Deconstruction of craftsmanship dimensions in aesthetic representation of Yogyakarta contemporary artThis study aimed to describe: 1) forms of deconstruction of craftmanship dimensions in the aesthetic representation of Yogyakarta’s contemporary art; and 2) factors leading to the strong deconstruction of craftmanship dimensions. The method employed was qualitative, using hermeneutics as the main approach. The researcher and a documentation guide were the main instruments in the research. The research data were in the form of artwork documents created by Yogyakarta artists, during the last ten-years or starting in 2010. The data were then analyzed using a qualitative descriptive model, incorporating the following steps: data reduction, discussion, and conclusion. The results of this study show that the form of deconstruction of craftmanship dimensions in the aesthetic representation of Yogyakarta’s contemporary art is related to the technical domain of creation and the content of the work, which is represented deconstructively. In terms of its contents, the artwork is no longer a representation of craftmanship either on its functional praxis or nobility, instead it shows a social-criticism function. The factors that cause the strong deconstruction of craftmanship dimensions in the aesthetic representation of Yogyakarta’s contemporary art include the strong influence of postmodernism accompanying the development of culture in the contemporary era, as the antithesis of modernism. This is realized by rejecting the principles of monosemic-logocentrism and by offering new principles, namely pluralism and polysemic-particularity in culture and arts, with all its grand narration.Keywords: deconstruction, craftsmanship, aesthetics representation, Yogyakarta contemporary artDekonstruksi dimensi kekriyaan dalam representasi estetis seni rupa kontemporer YogyakartaPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) bentuk-bentuk dekonstruksi dimensi kekriyaan dalam representasi estetis seni rupa kontemporer Yogyakarta; dan 2) penyebab kuatnya dekonstruksi dimensi kekriyaan dalam representasi estetis seni rupa kontemporer Yogyakarta sebagaimana dimaksud. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah jenis kualitatif dengan pendekatan utama hermeneutik. Instrumen utama penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri, yang dibantu dengan pedoman dokumentasi. Data penelitian berupa dokumentasi karya seni rupa Yogyakarta, yang dibuat pada periode sepuluh tahunan terakhir atau mulai tahun 2010. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model deskriptif kualitatif, dengan tahapan reduksi data, pembahasan, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk dekonstruksi dimensi kekriyaan dalam representasi estetis seni rupa kontemporer Yogyakarta berkaitan dengan domain teknis penciptaan dan isi karyanya, yang direpresentasikan secara dekonstruktif. Dari sisi isinya, hasil ciptaan tersebut tak lagi sebagai representasi kekriyaan baik dari sisi praksis fungsional maupun keadiluhungannya, melainkan lebih sebagai fungsi kritik sosial. Adapun faktor penyebab kuatnya dekonstruksi dimensi kekriyaan dalam representasi estetis seni rupa kontemporer Yogyakarta meliputi cukup kuatnya pengaruh faham postmodernisme yang mengiringi perkembangan kebudayaan di era kontemporer ini, sebagai antitesis faham modernisme. Hal ini diwujudkan dengan menolak prinsip logosentrisme-monosemik, dan menawarkan prinsip baru, yakni pluralitas serta partikularitas-polisemik dalam berkebudayaan dan berkesenian, beserta segala narasi besar yang menyertainya.Kata kunci: dekonstruksi, kekriyaan, representasi estetis, seni rupa kontemporer Yogyakarta

Abstract

Dramatari   Wayang  Topeng  Malang  reflects  the  life  style  of  the Malangese. They are believed to have historical relevance with the development Malang s oldest culture which was under the reign of Kanjuruhan Kingdom around 7th   century.  Topeng  Patih  dance,  the  opening  dance  of  the  traditional  theatre performance are closely related to the pattern of the show related to the space, time, and content. So the symbolic structuralist theoretical approach would be the chosen strategy to understand the symbolic internal meanings. The analysis indicates that the choreographic structure of Tari Topeng Patih consists of 7 elements: character, ritual, communication, body movement, make up and wardrobe art, instrument, and stage for the performance. All of them are oriented towards the grandeur of refined character or attitude

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the values of character education to develop teaching and learning materials for Drama course. It is a qualitative descriptive study by using Research and Development design. The data were obtained from the play entitled Panembahan Reso¸ written by W.S. Rendra by looking at the settings, the characters, the plots and some relevant documents. The technique used to collect the data was by document analysis technique. The results of the data analysis using interactive data analysis indicate that the values of character education are reflected throught the characters and their characterization; the values represented include the attitudes of being religious, hard working, peaceful, democratics, caring, fond of reading, responsible, having national spirit and excellence recognition. Permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v44i22016p207

Abstract

The objective of the study is to develop the concept mapping strategy to improve the reading ability of the second semester students at College of Islamic Studies Ma’arif (STAI) Metro–Lampung. A classroom action research was conducted in twocycles each comprising planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Observationsheet, field notes, interview, and test were used during the observation of each cycle. Thefindings of the study revealed that the concept mapping strategy that involves the use ofconcept mapping format to be filled in based on the comprehension from a Reading text has successfully improved the Reading ability of the second semester students of the English Department at STAI Ma’arief Metro Lampung. The success is indicated by thestudents’ improvement in reading scores and in the improvement of joyful learning interaction. The students enjoyed learning reading using concept mapping and found concept mapping helpful. All the students got above the passing score 60 in Cycle 2.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the relation between pragmatics and grammar, especially in Balinese language, which usually has been widely separated. The data were collected through document recording on a number of manuscripts and interviews with informants spreading out over five districts/cities in Bali Province as a representation of dialectal variation. Based on the theory of semantic structure it revealed that grammatical choice was motivated by pragmatic needs to realize Balinese hegemonic politeness in awig-awig of pakraman of the villages. The grammatical choices were: (1) personification of nouns desa, banjar, or subak, i.e. [+ CONCRETE] given the role as noun [+ HUMAN]. This grammatical choice is motivated by the adherence of members to the adat (custom) institutions. (2) Agents' dissipation to accentuate actions, especially those with negative images. This choice of syntactic structure is motivated by the maxim of wisdom and face-saving to reduce threats to someone.

Abstract

The development of multimedia design is influenced by various theories such as visual aesthetic principles. Aesthetic principles are used to guide the design process as well as play a role to increase the attractiveness of the message. However, along with the progress  in  computer  graphics,  graphic  design  aesthetic  applications in  multimedia learning  has  led  to  the  concept  of  multimedia  performances entertaining, aesthetic oriented. Additionally, this technology, along with multimedia technology, has expanded the field of professional designing multimedia learning beyond learning profession such as graphic designer profession.

Abstract

GLOBAL-LOCAL CONCEPT AS A CULTURAL BASIS FOR ART IN SANGGAR DEWATA INDONESIAAbstract: The face of Indonesian art contains multicultural, intercultural, and diverse values in the dialectics of regional arts and global culture. The rise of local culture is often caused by global cultural friction. The attraction and tension between global culture and local culture results in the 'glocalization' of culture. This article aims to explore the values of locality and global culture as a creative foundation for art in the Balinese diaspora art community, Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) which is culturally and philosophically insightful. The Balinese diaspora gradually has a new cultural identity as a result of the acculturation of Balinese culture with the local culture. Likewise, in the aspect of the language of art, Balinese diaspora artists in Yogyakarta are accommodative, experiencing visual transformation, syncretic, and contain hybridization of cultural values. This study utilizes qualitative methods with a formal study of cultural philosophy through an interpretive approach. The cultural interpretive approach has resulted that the culture and art process of the SDI art community are symbolically the result of the legacy of the collective conception system both in communicating, perpetuating and developing knowledge to attitudes towards artistic life. The mission and vision of SDI includes the spirit of nationalism, Pancasila nationalism, multiculturalism, in order to achieve the international art world, which is more heterogeneous and competitive. Thus the local-global spirit is accompanied by a process of reinterpretation and re-contextualization of a time that presents a thinking discourse, creative vision through creative dialectics that is filled with local-global acculturation shock power towards world-class global art competition.Keywords: Globalization, Locality values, Multiculturalism, Sanggar Dewata IndonesiaKONSEPSI LOKAL-GLOBAL SEBAGAI BASIS KULTURAL BERKESENIAN SANGGAR DEWATA INDONESIAAbstrak: Wajah seni rupa Indonesia mengandung nilai multikultur, interkultural, serta berbhineka dalam dialektika kesenian daerah dan kebudayaan global. Kebangkitan kebudayaan lokal sering disebabkan oleh gesekan budaya global. Tarikan dan tegangan antara budaya global dan budaya lokal menghasilkan ‘glokalisasi’ kebudayaan. Artikel ini bertujuan mendalami nilai-nilai lokalitas dan kultur global sebagai landasan kreatif berkesenian dalam komunitas seni diaspora Bali, Sanggar Dewata Indonesia (SDI) yang berwawasan budaya serta filosofis. Diaspora Bali lambat laun memiliki identitas kultur baru hasil dari akulturasi kebudayaan Bali dengan kebudayaan lokal setempat. Demikian juga dalam aspek bahasa berkesenian seniman diaspora Bali di Yogyakarta, bersifat akomodatif, mengalami transformasi visual, sinkretis, dan mengandung hibridasi nilai-nilai budaya. Artikel ini diteliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan kajian formal filsafat kebudayaan melalui pendekatan interpretatif. Pendekatan interpretatif kebudayaan telah menghasilkan pembacaan bahwa kebudayaan dan proses berkesenian komunitas seni SDI secara simbolik merupakan hasil dari warisan sistem konsepsi kolektif baik dalam mengomunikasikan, mengabadikan dan mengembangkan pengetahuan hingga sikap terhadap kehidupan kesenian. Visi dan misi SDI adalah semangat kebangsaan, nasionalisme Pancasila, multikultur, demi menuju dunia kesenian internasional yang lebih heterogen dan kompetitif. Abstract

This  paper  presents  an  internal  evaluation  on  English  for  General Academic Purposes (EGAP) subject which is developed by the English Language Teaching  Center  (ELTC)  from  a private  university  in East  Java,  Indonesia.  The research  was  conducted  to  elicit  feedback  on  the  effectiveness  of  English  for General Academic Purposes (EGAP). The presented data were obtained from questionnaires,  group  interviews,  classroom  observations  and  the  students’  final scores. There were 124 students and 6 lecturers involved in this small-scale research. Therefore, this paper is intended to describe the interesting facts of the study.

Abstract

This article analyzes the use of dirty words with reference to sociolinguis- tic and Saussurean conceptual frameworks. It starts with a personal-anecdotal ac- count on the difficulties in dealing with didactic issues in relation to the use of dirty words. In the guise of tackling the problem, sociolinguistic explanation is pursued, which, in the end, shows that sociolinguistic explanation is not really adequate to handle  the  issue.  This  relates  to  the  possible  notion  that  dirty  words  might  be enacted as a (very) personal expression, devoid of any physical addressees. Saussu- rean linguistic concepts are also explored, and, yet, similar to the sociolinguistic ex- planation, also lacks explanatory rigor in that the Saussurean materiality approach affirms that dirty words are neutral in their very materiality. Abstract

This study aims to explain the effect of applying the model to map concepts and reasoning ability of students to write essays High School Teacher Training and Education (STKIP) YPM Bangko, Jambi. The design study is a quasi-experiment, the independent variable (model a concept map), the moderator variable (reasoning), and the dependent variable (the ability to write an essay). 2x2 factorial design used. One treatment with two levels (X1 and X2) and moderator variables that have two tiers (Y1 and Y2). Subjects were two groups: the experimental class and control class. The results showed that there is the effect of applying the model to map concepts and reasoning ability of students to write essays. The application of the model map concept significantly affect the ability to write an essay, the level of a = 0.05, t count> t table (2.946> 2.011).
