Abstract

Student perception of hoax information in digital mediaThis study aims to determine student perception of hoax information distributed in digital media. The research is a survey study involving bachelor and master’s students from 18 study programs at the Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang, as participants. Data were collected through questionnaires circulatedonline using Google Form. They were then analyzed using SPSS, including Descriptive Statistics and Independence Sample T-Test. The results showed that the majority of students aredeeply concerned about hoax information in digital media. The majority of students checked the information available in the media, confirmed whether the information received is valid, and further assessed that media such as radio, newspapers, television, magazines, and social media can spread hoaxes.Keywords: survey, perception, hoax, digital mediaPersepsi mahasiswa terhadap informasi hoax di media digitalTujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa terhadap informasi hoax yang tersebar di media digital. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian survei dengan responden penelitian yang terdiri dari mahasiswa program D3, S1 dan S2 pada 18 program studi di Fakultas Sastra Universitas Negeri Malang. Pengumpulan data angket dilakukan secara daring menggunakan aplikasi Google Form. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan SPSS, meliputi Descriptive Statistics dan Independence Sample T-Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa mempunyai kepedulian yang tinggi terhadap informasi hoax di media digital.  Mayoritas mahasiswa memeriksa informasi yang ada  di media, serta memastikan informasi yang diterima valid. Kemudian menilai bahwa media seperti radio, surat kabar, televisi, majalah dan media sosial dapat menjadi sarana untuk menyebarkan hoax. Kata kunci: survei, persepsi, hoax, media digital

Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out patterns of relationship between English language proficiency levels and upgrading strategies in disagreement by using conversation analysis. Students taking Seminar on Linguistics course in the School of Cultural Studies at Brawijaya University were selected as the subjects of this study. They were classified into pre-intermediate, intermediate, pre-advanced, and advanced levels. The analysis result show that students performed direct and indirect disagreement, each of which resulted in different upgrading strategies. Pre-intermediate, intermediate, and pre-advanced students dominantly used double negation strategy. Advanced level students never performed direct disagreement. Indirect disagreement used by students across proficiency were dominated by the use of you strategy

Abstract

Bicultural, personality, and pedagogical competences in the perspective of BIPA language assistantsIn 2019, there were 63.022 learners of Indonesian as a foreign language in Victorian schools, Australia. They were facilitated by 263 Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) local teachers. Due to a shortage of BIPA local teachers, the Department of Education and Training Victoria had recruited language assistants from Indonesia. This study is aimed to describe the required skillsets of BIPA language assistants to support their duties. The data were collected through interviews, an inventory, observations, and stories of eight Indonesian language assistants with one year of experience. The findings reveal that the language assistants need to develop bicultural, personality and pedagogical competences. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan berbagai kompetensi yang perlu dimiliki guru bantu untuk menunjang pelaksanaan tugasnya. Data dikumpulkan dari wawancara, inventori, observasi, dan deskripsi pengalaman dari delapan guru bantu selama satu tahun mengajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru bantu perlu mengembangkan kompetensi bikultural, kompetensi kepribadian, dan kompetensi pedagogik. Ketiga kompetensi ini sebaiknya dijadikan bahan workshop pada pembekalan guru bantu di lembaga pengirim.Kata kunci: guru BIPA, kompetensi bikultural, kompetensi kepribadian, kompetensi pedagogik

Abstract

This article deals with structure, reference, and the use of onomatopoeic words, i.e. words containing sounds similar to the noises they describe. A close examination towards data collected from Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia, song lyrics, and the use of daily Indonesian, shows that the form and the referent of Indonesian onomatopoeic words are various, and they can be used literally or figuratively forproducing metaphorical and euphemistic expressions

Abstract

This study is aimed to describe the process of ceramic art learning process and to determine the impact of ceramic art learning for students of TK Pandeyan 2 Kindegarten of Sukoharjo by appreciating their creations. This method also intended to introduce and preserve ceramic culture for early age students. The method used is qualitative data analysis, in the form of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The result shows that the ceramic art learning in TK Pandeyan 2 Kindegarten of Sukoharjo has positive effects as the teaching and learning process can be used as a medium for teachers and parents to understand children’s characters and personalities better.  Permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v45i12017p040

Abstract

This paper discusses Indoesian Lombok poem as a form of resistance toward Tuan Guru (master teacher) hegemony in Lombok. In 2000s, Tuan Guru achieved hegemonic position in Lombok. This paper uses the Gramsci hegemony theory because literary work is assumed to have hegemonic power. The result shows that the conception of Islam is formed in the story of Dewi Rengganis which tells the mixture of Arabic and Lombok Islam. Arabic Islam shows the aspects of form and Lombok Islam shows the substance. Tuan Guru comes with an orthodox Arabic discourse. The poem cleverly chooses the teacher as one way to make the public believe that the ideal teacher is Tuan Guru whose knowledge goes to the prophet. The concept was strengthened through the institutions of Nahdlatul Wathan and Pondok Pesantren. This pesantren boarding school education institution has made the hegemonic position of Tuan Guru last until now. Tuan Guru's hegemony reached its peak when the customs of shoving could be standardized into Islamic law. Tuan Guru's hegemony reached its peak when the customs of sorong serah were standardized into Islamic law. It was in this context that Indonesian Lombok poetry was present to put up a fight against the discourse Tuan Guru. Finally, The poetry sorong serah, nyongkolan and pembayun elevated the discourse of tradition in discursive formation about Lombok.

Abstract

In his novels, Dickens delivers important social messages through his empathetic characters living lives of misery, oppression, slavery, degradation, and exploitation under the so-called capitalistic system. These underclass people hollertheir plight of injustice and crises of the actual social milieu. In the Marxist perspective, these multiple crises are embedded in themes of exploitation, class consciousness, and sacrifice and revolution. Hence, the realism disguised under literary devices could hopefully accomplish dual purposes, both as a means of provoking a new kind of "social consciousness" among the bourgeoisie and as ameans of raising the proletariat's class consciousness

Abstract

The religiosity construction of the human body in Indonesian poemsThe body is an integral part of being human. It is physical as well as spiritual, not only natural but also supernatural. In this regards, proper treatment of the body may indicate the level of one’s religiosity. The purpose of this study was to find the religiosity of the human body in poems written by Indonesian poets. Adopting Küçükcan’s (2005) religiosity dimension framework, we examine the body's religiosity from the following dimensions: belief, practice, and spirituality. Our data were a collection of language units in lines and stanzas taken from poems written by Mashuri and Alek Subairi. They were analyzed using hermeneutic approach. The results show that within the dimension of belief reflected in the poems, the body is considered mortal and religious. Within the practical dimension, the body is used to fulfill economic necessity. It is also used as a means to meet God. Within the dimension of spirituality, the body channels God’s presence in various forms: love, caringness, and warmth. Perlakuan terhadap tubuh secara benar menunjukkan kadar religiositas seseorang.  Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan religiositas tubuh pada puisi-puisi karya penyair Indonesia. Religiositas tubuh dikaji dari segi dimensi keyakinan, praktik, dan spiritualitas dengan memakai teori dimensi religiositas yang dikembangkan oleh Küçükcan (2005). Penelitian ini menggunakan data yang berupa satuan bahasa dalam larik dan bait yang terdapat pada puisi Mashuri dan Alek Subairi. Data lalu dianalisis secara hermeneutik. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa dalam dimensi keyakinan yang terdapat dalam puisi, tubuh dipandang fana dan religius. Dalam dimensi praktik, tubuh dipakai untuk memenuhi kebutuhan ekonomi dan juga sebagai sarana pertemuan dengan Tuhan. Dalam dimensi spiritualitas, tubuh menjadi sarana kehadiran Tuhan dalam aneka rupa: cinta, kepedulian, dan kehangatan. Ketiga dimensi tersebut saling mendukung dan saling mengisi.Kata Kunci: religiositas, keyakinan, praktik, spiritualitas, tubuh

Abstract

It is often said that Skopos theory has abolished the position of the source text. Nevertheless, translators still have to translate source texts, and to do this, they must identify translation units and decide what to do with them in the translation process. The same applies to translation description and criticism or even quality assessment. In order to compare source and target texts and achieve a fair judgment of a translation, the translators need communicative function of the translation unit. This article deals with the basic concept of Skopos and functional aspects that come into play both in translation and translation description.
