Abstract

Teachers require effective learning media to cultivate critical thinking skills in students, and Prezi is recognized as one such media. This study aims to explore the impact of utilizing Prezi as a learning medium on students' critical thinking skills in social studies at SMP Negeri 3 Bandung. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method was employed for this research, utilizing a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control design. The study involved two classes: Class VIII.2 as the experimental group and Class VIII.4 as the control group. The primary instrument used was a questionnaire on critical thinking skills, consisting of 34 items, distributed through Google Forms. The findings indicate that the use of Prezi as a learning medium in social studies significantly improved students' critical thinking abilities, with a significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. In contrast, the control group, which utilized PowerPoint as the learning medium, showed a less significant impact on critical thinking skills, with a significance value of 0.002, greater than 0.05. When comparing the critical thinking abilities of students in both groups, there was no significant difference, as indicated by a significance value of 0.231, which exceeds 0.05.

Abstract

Civil aviation activities represent a significant advancement in modern transportation facilities within the city of Surabaya. The purpose of this article is to describe civil aviation services at Darmo Airfield in Surabaya from 1929 to 1939. This research employs historical research methods, including heuristics, source verification, interpretation, and historiography. The sources for this article are primarily derived from a literature study, with primary data collected from various newspapers published between 1929 and 1939. The findings of this study indicate that civil aviation services at Darmo Airfield commenced in 1929. Over the subsequent years, these services expanded to not only cover flight routes within the Dutch East Indies region but also extended to flights to Australia. Additionally, the establishment of civil aviation services facilitated the growth of airmail traffic to and from the city of Surabaya, contributing to the enhanced dynamics of population and goods transportation to and from the city during that period.

Abstract

Indonesia has experienced two years of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has significantly impacted the educational system. As the country now transitions into an endemic phase, there is a shift from predominantly distance learning to a limited face-to-face format. This transition presents challenges for social studies teachers in delivering their curriculum, leading to the need for the implementation of blended learning. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of blended learning in increasing the interest of class VIII students at SMPN 3 Bandung in social studies. The research design utilizes a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample comprises 64 students from two classes: class VIII-3 as the experimental group and class VIII-1 as the control group. Data collection involved online questionnaires on learning interests via Google Forms and documentation. Subsequently, the collected data was analyzed using hypothesis testing in the SPSS version 20 application. The results of this study indicate that the use of blended learning in social studies had a significant impact on students' learning interests, with a significance value of 0.00, which is less than 0.05. Similarly, the control group, which employed conventional learning, also demonstrated a significant improvement in students' learning interest, with a significance value of 0.00. However, when comparing the learning interest between the experimental and control groups, there was no significant difference, as indicated by a significance value of 0.557, which is greater than 0.05.

Abstract

Social studies teachers often rely on conventional learning resources, primarily textbooks, including electronic books, and student worksheets available in the library. The utilization of varied learning resources by teachers is relatively limited. Therefore, this study aims to achieve four objectives: 1) Describe the home industry of water hyacinth crafts. 2) Explore the connection between water hyacinth crafts and the creative economy of the Cihampelas village community. 3) Investigate the integration of home industry water hyacinth crafts as social studies learning resources. 4) Identify the challenges faced by the home industry of water hyacinth crafts in contributing to the creative economy and propose solutions for their utilization as social studies learning resources. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach and is conducted in Cihampelas Village. The findings reveal that the process of incorporating the water hyacinth craft home industry as an environmentally-based learning resource involves social studies teachers initially analyzing the relevant educational standards before conducting field visits. For instance, in the case of Class IX, Basic Competency 3.3, which focuses on the development of creative economies based on the regional potential for community welfare, the material can be linked to the local environment, such as Cihampelas Village's utilization of water hyacinth crafts derived from the Saguling reservoir, contributing to the community's creative economy. This approach ensures the relevance of the activities to the water hyacinth craft home industry in Cihampelas Village.

Abstract

Fostering students' creativity through education has become increasingly crucial in the 21st century. This era demands that educators actively nurture creativity in students across all subjects. Notably, teachers play a pivotal role in enhancing students' creativity, even within the context of social studies during the transitional period of the Covid-19 pandemic. This study has two primary objectives. Firstly, it seeks to elucidate how teachers at MTS Negeri 6 Jakarta employ creativity to bolster student motivation through blended learning strategies. Secondly, it endeavors to identify the obstacles encountered during the use of blended learning in the context of social studies amid the COVID-19 pandemic transition. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection methods encompass observations and interviews involving social studies teachers and students. The findings of this study are as follows: Firstly, the majority of students have adeptly adapted to the learning processes facilitated by teachers through blended learning during the COVID-19 pandemic transition. They exhibit active engagement in learning through activities on platforms like WhatsApp groups, Google Classroom, and Google Meet's question-and-answer sessions. Secondly, the main hindrance to effective blended learning is the insufficient availability of adequate learning facilities.

Abstract

The low motivation and learning outcomes of students in social studies subjects at Kanisius Gayam I Elementary School challenge teachers to develop innovative approaches related to models, methods, media, learning resources, and evaluation. This study aims to describe the implementation of a project-based learning model to enhance motivation and improve learning outcomes in grade V social studies at Kanisius Gayam I Elementary School. This study falls under the category of Classroom Action Research and involves thirty fifth-grade students at Kanisius Gayam I Elementary School during the 2022/2023 school year. The research focuses on assessing the impact of the project-based learning model on motivation and learning outcomes in social studies. The research employed various instruments, including observation sheets, student learning motivation questionnaires, and tests. Data analysis involved both quantitative and descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the study are as follows: 1) Efforts to enhance motivation and learning outcomes in fifth-grade students at Kanisius Gayam I Elementary School were made through the implementation of a project-based learning model. The steps involved fundamental questions, project planning, schedule preparation, project activeness and development monitoring, testing results, project evaluation, and project outcomes. 2) The study noted an increase in learning motivation from an initial average of 65.66 to 76.26 in cycle I and a further increase to 83.66 in cycle II. 3) Learning outcomes also showed improvement, with an initial average of 54.82 rising to 62 in cycle I and further increasing to 83.66 in cycle II.

Abstract

The level of student engagement in the classroom has a significant impact on their learning outcomes. Various models and methods employed to enhance student engagement can influence these outcomes. This study aims to investigate the effects of applying the peer tutor method on student engagement and learning outcomes in Class VIII F at SMP Negeri 27 Banjarmasin. The research follows a four-stage process: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets and student engagement records. The results of the study reveal that the implementation of the peer tutor method has a positive impact on student engagement and learning outcomes in Class VIII F at SMP Negeri 27 Banjarmasin. This improvement is evident through the percentages obtained in both Cycle I and Cycle II: Student engagement increased from 34% in Cycle I to 84% in Cycle II. Student learning outcomes improved from 52% in Cycle I to 96% in Cycle II.

Abstract

The nature conservation in East Kalimantan in 1967-1998 has been the focused of this study. After the 1967 to 1998 is the period of the massive conservation of Kalimantan natural forest, especially in the East Kalimantan that destroys natural forest extensively. The damage does not only affect the forest cover, but also threaten the habitat of various important animals. In the middle of the forest exploitation, the East Kalimantan nature conservation has been growing since the late 1970s. The objective of the research is explaining the development of East Kalimantan nature conservation area and its challenges in the vortex of forest exploitation. The historical approach is applied to compile and elaborate problems historically consisting of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results show the New Order economic development policies significantly affect the emergence of threats to nature conservation in East Kalimantan. In the late 1970s, the growth of conservation area in the East Kalimantan natural forest was lagging due to the previous forest exploitation that ran for decade since 1967. Continuous forest exploitation since 1967 has fragmented conservation areas and created various threats that bear challenges to nature conservation efforts. The emerging threats include conflicts of flora and fauna, encroachment and tenurial conflicts, as well as illegal logging and mining.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the physical condition of Indonesia which offers its own advantages for tourists. Indonesia has abundant natural wealth. These natural resources are directly related to the way society uses them to generate wealth. The tourism business, which is currently developing rapidly and has established itself as a large industry in many countries, is a driving force that influences people's income and other economic factors. There will be many benefits for the local community if the tourist attractions there are managed in the right way. The role of the Merak Kecil Island tourist attraction in improving the standard of living of the residents of Mekarsari Village, Cilegon, Banten is the main subject of this research. The community around the popular tourist destination Merak Kecil Island was used as research subjects in this study, which used qualitative research methods. Interviews, observation and documentation are the methods used in data collection. To ensure that the data collected is beyond doubt, the researcher uses source, technical, and temporal triangulation to verify the authenticity of the data. Research findings show that this tourist destination is managed locally and in line with POAC principles (planning, organizing, mobilizing and controlling). The potential of Merak Kecil Island as a tourist destination lies in its stunning sea views. The presence of the Merak Kecil Island tourist attraction in Mekarsari Village is considered to have a significant influence in increasing income levels because it provides a platform for the community to carry out various economic activities.

Abstract

Model pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E merupakan model pembelajaran yang berpusat pada siswa (student centered) dan merupakan model pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan teori konstruktivisme. Kontruktivisme merupakan landasan berpikir (filosofi) pendekatan kontekstual, yaitu bahwa pengetahuan dibangun oleh manusia sedikit demi sedikit, yang hasilnya diperluas melalui konteks yang terbatas. Sehingga dalam hal ini, pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E ini sesuai dengan tujuan utama pembelajaran IPS, yaitu untuk membantu mengembangkan siswa menjadi warga negara yang memiliki pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan yang memadai untuk berperan serta dalam mewujudkan kehidupan yang demokratis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi model pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E pada mata pelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 5 Jember. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun Hasil penelitian ini yaitu: 1) Perencanaan model pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E pada mata pelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 5 Jember dilakukan dengan membuat RPP, LKPD, menganalisis materi pelajaran, menentukan media dan sumber belajar. 2) Pelaksanaan model pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E pada mata pelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 5 Jember dilakukan dengan beberapa tahapan yaitu engagement (undangan), exploration (eksplorasi), explanation (penjelasan), elaboration (pengembangan), dan evaluation (evaluasi). 3) Evaluasi model pembelajaran siklus belajar 5E pada mata pelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 5 Jember menggunakan penilaian autentik yaitu dengan menilai hasil belajar siswa melalui Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD).
